The Parents (Part Two)
Scott hopped out of the car and Vincent followed him.
"Okay. You follow behind me, just in case my parents freak out," Scott said.
Vincent laughed, "You parents aren't going to freak out."
"Wanna bet?" Scott mumbled. Then he opened the door and walked through.
Vincent stepped inside after Scott, looking around with great interest. The flyscreen door swung shut with a hiss. On the walls were photos of Scott and Linda. Aw, he's even cuter as a little kid.
"Scott!"
Vincent looked, frowning. That voice was oddly familiar, and it soon became apparent why.
"Uncle Will?" Scott asked, looking mortified, "What're you doing here?"
"Well, it's a family get-together. Your parents figured it'd be nice for me to catch up with your parents and Linda at the same time. Good to see you outside of work!" 'Uncle Will' pulled Scott into a hug.
Huh. He sure as hell is different when he's not at Freddy's.
Will looked up, and saw Vincent. He let go of Scott instantly, "Vincent?"
"Hey Mr. William," Vincent grinned, holding out his arms, "Do I get a hug, too?"
"Don't push it, Bishop," William folded his arms, "That's Boss to you."
"Sir, yes, sir."
"Are Mom and Dad at home?" Scott asked cautiously.
"No, not for a while. They're getting last minute snacks. Why? And what's Vincent doing here?" Boss frowned suspiciously.
"Well..." Scott sighed, "I'm gonna drop the big bombshell on them today. Y'know... 'Hey Mom, hey Dad, I got drunk one night and kissed a guy and it felt amazing'..." He laughed half-heartedly.
"If you break into 'I Kissed A Boy, and I Liked It', I'll pay you fifty bucks," Vincent grinned.
"Tastes of his purple chapstick?" Scott laughed, "Yeah, no. Anyway, seeing as Vincent and I are dating, he kindly offered to come along to help me out."
Boss looked from Scott to Vincent carefully, scrutinizing the both of them, "Uh huh."
Vincent stepped over to Scott's side, putting a hand on his shoulder and meeting William's eyes. He sent him a look as if to say, He's mine, and I'm going to be the best partner I can be.
William looked unconvinced. He sighed, but evidently decided not to voice his concerns, "Well, Scott, let me tell you something, you got more guts than most."
Scott smiled gratefully, "Yep. Just hoping they're not gonna divorce me."
"Scotter!"
Vincent quickly took his hand off of Scott's shoulder and stepped away from him; that was a woman's voice. Scott's mom.
A woman came bustling into the room. She was short - shorter than Scott - and had his brownish-red hair. Her eyes were shining green. She hugged him quickly.
Scotter? Vincent mouthed at Scott, suppressing a grin.
Scott sent him an I don't know, either glance from over his mother's shoulder.
Scott's mom pulled away and turned to look at Vincent, "Scott, who's this?"
"Um... T-This is Vincent. My, um... my co-worker. A-And... my best friend. He's staying with me at the moment and wanted to come meet you guys. You don't mind, right?"
"Of course not!" Scott's mom examined Vincent carefully, looking him shamelessly up and down, "Nice to meet a friend of my baby. He never brings anyone home anymore. Too bad it wasn't a girlfriend instead!" She laughed, holding out a hand.
"Ha... ha..." Scott rubbed his arm awkwardly, looking nervous.
Vincent shook Scott's mother's hand, "Mrs. Adams. It's a pleasure."
Scott snapped his attention to Vincent and met his eyes, If you flirt with my mother I will kill you.
Vincent, yet again, had to suppress a grin. He considered kissing Scott's mom's hand just to tick him off, but decided against it. He was here to support Scott tonight, not antagonize him.
Mrs. Adams smiled, "And here they say chivalry is dead! Please, call me Robin. Andrew!" She yelled, "Come meet Scott's friend!"
A man appeared beside Robin - presumably Andrew. He had a few grocery bags in his hands. He was actually quite tall, and had Scott's dark brown eyes. His hair was black, but his facial structure was quite similar to Scott's.
"Hey, there," Scott's Dad grinned lopsidedly, holding out a hand.
Vincent shook his hand, "Mr. Adams. Good to meet you."
"And you too," Andrew walked over to Scott and tousled his hair, "Good to see you, too, champ. Let me go put down these groceries and I can come back and say hi properly."
Scott watched his Dad go, shoulders lowering slightly. He sighed, looking at his feet.
"Everything alright, Scott?" Vincent asked, trying to snap him out of his obvious bad mood, "You look upset."
Scott lifted his head, meeting Vincent's eyes, "Upset? Me? No, no, I'm totally fine. Thank you for asking, though."
"Just making sure," Vincent leaned against the wall, watching him carefully.
Linda came running into the room, "Scotter the Otter! C'mere, you useless brother!" She virtually jumped on him, wrapping her arms around him.
Scott stumbled back, but chuckled, hugging Linda back, "Talk about it, you evil witch. You're the reason I'm here tonight, remember?"
Linda grinned, letting go of him and looking over at Vincent, hand on her hip. She looked him up and down like Robin had, "That's right. You've got some big news for us tonight, don'tcha, Scott?"
"Big news?" Robin looked from Scott to Linda, "What do you mean, 'big news'? Ooh, this is exciting!"
"I-It's really not," Scott said, "It's... it's not really good news..."
"But it's not bad news?" Robin asked, concern filling her face.
"Well... Maybe not. It's just... news. Big news," Scott shrugged slightly, then changed the subject, "But anyway, I don't want to talk about that! Let's, um, talk about something else."
"No, no, wait. What's this news?" Robin started.
Vincent jumped in, "Actually, Scott, I'd love to see your room. You have any stuff from when you were a kid?"
Scott blinked at him for a moment, then grinned at him gratefully, "Yeah, sure. Linda and I shared a room. C'mon, I'll show you." He paused, then added, "Linda, you come with too. No giving away my news before it's time."
Linda rolled her eyes, but followed after Scott.
Vincent stayed back a little and looked at them. On closer inspection, Linda was a little bit shorter than Scott. There wasn't much in it, though. Her blonde hair must be dyed, because neither of their parents were blonde. Ah, yes. The roots on the top of her head were black.
All the rooms branched off of each other. Scott's house was like a big block. You walked in the front door and were instantly in the kitchen and dining room. Just to the side of the dining room was the lounge room, and from the lounge room were three doors - each to bedrooms.
Vincent hummed. Those three rooms, plus the one at the front. It was a four-bedroom home.
Scott opened the middle door. Inside was a smallish room, with red bunk beds on top of each other.
"Woah," Vincent said, "It's like you never moved out."
"Mom likes to keep all our stuff just as it was," Linda shrugged. "Ten bucks if you can guess which bunk was Scott's."
Vincent looked at the bunk beds, humming. The bottom one had a picture of numerous rock bands, but somehow, he could imagine Linda enjoying rock music. It also had a lot of photos of parks, creeks and other places. The top bunk was super messy, it also had pictures of one or two rock bands. But then Vincent's eyes fell on something damning.
"Well, duh. The top one's Scott's," He walked over, picking up the Foxy plushie and throwing it at Scott.
Scott caught it and cocked an eyebrow, "Catch, Linda." He threw the plushie at Linda, who caught it with one hand.
"The top bunk's mine," she said, grinning. "He's not the only one who spent a lot of time at the pizzeria. Duh."
Vincent blinked, then groaned, "Ugh. I forgot that your family and Boss are so close."
"Don't worry, I have one, too," Scott walked over and sat on his bunk. Pulling the sheets back, he pulled out a worn Toy Foxy plush and waved it at Vincent, "Well, hey, it's only natural. If one twin got to design a fox, the other twin had to design one, too."
"No. Way," Vincent grinned, taking the plush from Scott, "Linda designed The Mangle?"
"Well, of course!" Linda sighed exasperatedly, "Who else would give her pink pants and eyeshadow?"
"Huh. That's cool. But, Scott, how come you took the bottom bunk?" Vincent asked, "It's a lot smaller."
"He's scared of heights," Linda snorted.
"Linda!" Scott shoved her, annoyed.
Vincent grinned, "Are you serious, Scott? Afraid of heights? But this bunk is, like, a metre off the ground."
Scott blushed slightly and shrugged, "I dunno, it always seemed bigger when I was little..."
Vincent smiled, "You're so damn adorable, you know that, Scott?"
Linda giggled, "You don't know the start of it."
"I'm sure I do," Actually, that reminded him, "Hey, Linda, do you still have your wardrobe?"
Linda tilted her head, "Yeah, why?" She narrowed her eyes, "Don't you start going through my clothes, you creep."
Vincent laughed, "Not much chance of that. You're not my type."
Linda narrowed her eyes, "What's that supposed to mean?"
Scott stood in the way, pushing them away from each other, "Woah. Guys, please, stop. I... I'm really nervous, and you two hating each other will only make me worse."
Vincent looked at Scott, "Oh, Scott. I'm sorry," He pulled Scott into a hug quickly, then looked up at Linda, "I just meant you're not my type because you're a girl. I'm already dating the guy version of you." He laughed, letting go of Scott.
Linda's lined eyes widened again, "Oh. That's fine, then! But why did you want to see my wardrobe?"
"Never mind it," Vincent smiled, "Scott just told me something once about... your dresses... and I wanted to see if they were still here."
Scott looked at Vincent, and then punched him, "Pervert."
"You bet I am," Vincent grinned.
"Scotty, Lindie, Vinny!" Robin's voice called for them, "Dinner!"
Scott let out a deep sigh, "I guess this is it..." He smiled at Vincent, and then at Linda, "Say goodbye to the straight Scott that you know, and hello to the one that's coming out of the closet."
"Hello!" Linda giggled, then skipped out to the dining room.
Vincent paused, grabbing Scott's hands so that he turned to face him. He leaned in and kissed him gently. Scott's stubble brushed slightly against his face, but it was a good feeling.
Vincent pulled away, "You can do this, Scott. I believe in you."
Scott smiled at him, then sighed. He quickly hugged him, then walked out after Linda.
Vincent hung behind for just a second, looking around at Scott's room one more time, then walked out after him.
