The Parents (Part One)

(( Like 4 or 5 chapters coming your way people prepare your hearts for so many feels- omg 5315 words. I'm sorry for this I just had a really really really really really inspired day. ))

Scott looked to his left at Vincent, "Are you sure about this?"

"Positive," Vincent replied, "What could possibly go wrong?"

"Hm. Let's see," Scott said dryly, returning his attention to the road, "It all goes down badly. They kick us out of the house. They disown me. They insult you really badly. They cook food you don't like. They cook food that gives us food poisoning. Should I go on?"

"I believe you left out 'a nuclear warhead goes off in our local area and we all die of radiation'," Vincent grinned, "You seem to have explored every single bad option. Why not look at the good outcomes? They understand. They're completely fine with it. The food is amazing and dinner is a blast. They give us their blessings and we're on our way."

"If only it were that simple," Scott sighed.

"Why can't it be that simple?" Vincent asked, "You need to relax and trust in your parents. Plus, there's no pressure on you to do this. If things end up looking bad, you don't have to say anything."

"Yeah, right, and have Linda on my case for the rest of my natural life," Scott grimaced, "I have to do this."

"Well, at least I'll be there to help out," Vincent suggested.

"Yeah..." Scott looked at him, "Thank you."

"Thanks for what? It's what anyone would do," Vincent shrugged, "They really live all the way across town, huh?"

"Yeah, but it's not much longer from here," Scott caught sight of himself in the mirror, "Agh. I haven't shaved in days. Look at me, I'm all scraggly."

"I think it's cute," Vincent said, "Heck, even your 3-day beard is cute, Scott."

Scott looked over at Vincent for just a second, then mumbled, "Well, I guess it can stay, then."

Vincent grinned, leaning back in the passenger seat, "So, do your parents actually know I'm coming?"

"Eh," Scot shrugged slightly, "Kind of?"

"Kind of?" Vincent asked, "How could they kind of know I'm coming?"

"Well, I mean... They don't, no."

"Really? But, won't they need to plan an extra seat and stuff?" Vincent frowned slightly.

"I guess. But I can do that myself. It's my old house, so I'm sure they're going to get me to set the table and do the dishes... Oh, here's the street," Scott turned right.

Vincent leaned out to see the name of the street. Kittyhawk Avenue. He grinned, "Your parents live on Kittyhawk Avenue? What kind of a street name is that?"

"There's an air-force base around here. All the streets are named after planes. But yeah, it's pretty cool," Scott grinned.

"Yeah it is. Oh, also. What do I call them? Your parents, I mean," Vincent frowned, "Actually, I don't even know your last name, do I?"

"Uh, Mr and Mrs Adams," Scott rolled his eyes, "I hate my last name."

"Scott Adams, huh? I like it. You know what sounds better, though?" Vincent paused for effect, "Vincent Adams."

Scott stalled the car, "Holy--! for a moment there I thought you were proposing to me!"

Vincent laughed, "Nah. Not yet."

"Not yet?" Scott squeaked, looking at Vincent.

"What?" Vincent asked innocently, "I'm just thinking ahead, hon."

Scott shook his head, "Let me just get past today without having a mental breakdown before I even start thinking about marriage. I'm not even your boyfriend yet."

Vincent just grinned, "It's a matter of time."

Scott laughed nervously, then, "Oh, hey. You actually made me stop the car right outside my parents' place."

Vincent peered out past Scott. It was actually a pretty big house. Just one story, but wide and long. He guessed it was a four-bedroom house. The side facing the street had big windows which shone in on one of those bedrooms.

Scott let out a deep breath, "Okay. This is it. The big day."

"You ready?" Vincent asked.

"Nope," Scott flashed him an uneasy smile, "Let's do it, I guess."
