chapter 2

Kyle and Christopher were still on the run with Alexa after having saved her from the three men that had killed Jacob in the greenhouse, driving the van to a gas station, pulling to a stop outside to get gas and food so they could keep going.

Alexa was still unconscious in the back of the van after Kyle's earthquake that saved them had also knocked her out because she fell and hit her head on the park ground.

Kyle pulled over at the gas station.

Christopher sat in the passenger seat, looking to Kyle. "Next time, you might wanna go a little easy on the uprising. You know, so you don't knock out the girl we're trying to save."

"Yeah, well, that was the only way to knock out the guys that were trying to kill all of us," Kyle replied. "I'll be right back. Get the gas."

Kyle got out of the van, walking inside the gas station.

Christopher got out of the van, toward the gas pump, starting to fill up the van. He pulled out a bag of chips, starting to open them to eat when he heard something.

Alexa was waking up in the back of the van, confused as to where she was, looking around, very groggy after having hit her head, holding her head in pain. After a moment, she remembered seeing Jacob's body, remembered the three men that had tried to take her, remembered Christopher and Kyle in the greenhouse and remembering that Christopher had taken her outside in the park when they had been running away, and remembering the earthquake that had caused her to lose conscious. She became alert and paranoid and worried about her safety within a second, sitting up, careful not to move too quickly, not knowing if Christopher or Kyle was there to help her or hurt her since to her, it seemed like they kidnapped her and not saved her. She looked at the sliding door on the side of the van, trying to pull it open, only to find that it was locked and wouldn't budge. Alexa turned to look at the backdoors behind her, with very tinted windows, trying to open them, only to find them locked as well.

Outside the van, Christopher heard Alexa trying to get out, walking toward the driver's seat of the van.

Alexa exhaled heavily, slowly, carefully, climbing over the seats, sitting in the passenger seat, looking toward the gas station, toward where Kyle was inside. She was watching warily for both of them, reaching toward the door handle, searching along the tan, unbroken leather.

There was no handle of any kind.

Alexa looked down in panic, incredulous and confused as to why there wasn't a handle there, trying not to freak out so that she could get away.

Christopher stood outside the driver's seat door. "You looking for something?" Alexa jumped at the sudden break of silence, turning her head to look at him. Christopher smirked, confident, charming, and sweet. He looked her over. "Jumpy, aren't we?"

Alexa realized that he was waiting for an answer. "Kinda have a right to be."

Christopher nodded in acknowledgement. "True."

Christopher opened his door, getting in, placing the bag of chips next to Alexa.

Alexa was confused.

Kyle walked out of the gas station, opening the side door to the back of the van, getting inside, closing the door.

Christopher drove them away.

Alexa broke the silence. "Well, thanks for saving me from those guys, but I think I need to go home before someone starts to freak out about where I am."

"I don't think that's a good idea," Christopher told her.

Alexa became even more unnerved and nervous, tense and anxious, not knowing if they were going to hurt her or not, not realizing that they were actually trying to keep her safe, and was determined to get away from them in any way that she could.

The silence in the van only proved to make Alexa's paranoia and panic become worse because of its intensity and mysteriousness, the tension palpable.

The van drove toward an empty clearing in the middle of nowhere, driving onto the grass.

Christopher pulled over.

Kyle got out of the back, closing the door.

Alexa tensed in preparation, looking out of her darkly tinted window, waiting expectantly as she prepared to get free.

Kyle walked toward the passenger seat where Alexa was sitting, opening the door for her.

Alexa was ready, pushing herself out, stomping on Kyle's foot, grabbing his shoulders, pulling him down to knee him in the stomach, making him groan in pain.

Christopher got out of the car, running around toward them.

Alexa grabbed Kyle by his head, turning around, pushing him into Christopher, making them both fall to the ground. She instantly started to run away as fast as she possibly could, arms pumping at her sides.

Christopher and Kyle stood.

Another van, this one a black van, drove down the road toward them.

Christopher and Kyle exchanged a look as if they knew who that was, running after Alexa quickly, trying to help her, but Alexa took this as a sign that they were trying to hurt her.

Alexa looked over her shoulder to see both of them following her, running even faster than before.

The second van drove over the grass toward them.

Alexa had to stop as it was blocking her way, looking around for what to do in a panic, looking from the van to Christopher and Kyle, determined to get away from both, seeing a path to get away from them all, running away down the path to the woods, disappearing through the treeline, and even though the van, Kyle and Christopher couldn't follow her through the woods, she never stopped running, leaving them behind in the dust.

Men in black got out of the black van, facing off with Kyle and Christopher, all prepared to start a fight that they would try to win and kill them in.

Christopher and Kyle had to stop running after Alexa, looking at the men, sighing, knowing that they had to defend themselves and get away safely, knowing the men would try to kill them.

Christopher grimaced. "Oh, you gotta be kidding me."

The men stepped closer.

Kyle looked at Christopher. "Run or fight?"

Christopher gave him a look. "What do you think?"

Kyle sighed. "I knew you were gonna say that."

The three men stepped closer.

Christopher raised his arms toward them. The air seemed to be responding to what Christopher wanted it to do. The air around them became strong. So strong it could push the three men away from Christopher and Kyle as far as it could, making the three men fall to the grass of the clearing.

The three men quickly stood.

Man 1 stood, aiming his hand at Christopher and Kyle, a red glow emanating his hand, forming into fire, hurling it toward them.

Christopher and Kyle ducked to the ground to make the burst of fire soar past them before dissipating in the air.

Man 1 threw more fire toward them.

Kyle stood, using both arms to influence the soil on the ground, bringing it up as a shield in a long stream of soil that could block the fire from getting anywhere close to him or Christopher.

The flame made contact with the soil in front of Kyle and Christopher, burning the brown soil into black, dissipating.

The blackened soil rained down to the ground.

The three men, knowing that Christopher and Kyle were equal with them in power wise, started to fight with them hand to hand to try and beat them face to face instead of using their powers, not knowing that Christopher and Kyle were also very skilled at fighting.

Man 2 tried to punch Christopher. Christopher ducked, spinning around him, turning to face him. Man 2 turned to face him. Christopher tried to punch him. Man 2 caught his wrist, flipping him through the air to the ground in front of him. Christopher stood, turning to face him.

Man 3 stalked toward Kyle, trying to punch him. Kyle caught his arm, punching him in the face, then the stomach, making him fall. Man 3 grabbed his arm, standing, twisting it behind his back, making Kyle turn away from him and groan in pain. Kyle spun out of the group, standing behind him, holding the arm that he had used to grab his to twist behind his back the same way he had done to him, pushing him into Man 2, making them both fall to the ground.

Man 1 shot fire toward Kyle and Christopher.

Christopher held out his hands, bringing them toward himself, as if gesturing to take the air away so that there was no air for the fire, making the flames dissipate before the fire was able to make contact with him.

Man 2 and Man 3 stood, facing off with Christopher and Kyle.

Man 2 backhand punched Christopher in the face, making him stumble back.

Kyle punched Man 3 in the face, making him turn away. Man 3 turned to him, backhand punching him in the face.

Christopher punched Man 2 in the face, taking him by his head, bringing him down to knee him in the stomach, making him lean over in pain, kicking him in the face, making him fall to the ground.

Kyle tried to punch Man 3. Man 3 caught his wrist, elbowing him in the chest, making him groan in pain. He still had hold of his arm, trying to punch Kyle repeatedly. Each time, Kyle would duck just enough to make him miss, punching him in the chest hard enough to make him fall to the ground.

Man 2 stood to face Christopher. Christopher stood in a defensive, fighting position, ready. Man 2 tried to punch him. Christopher raised his arm to block the move. Man 2 tried to punch him with his other arm. Christopher used his other arm to block the move. Man 2, growing annoyed, moving faster, punching him in the face, making him back away. He ran toward Christopher, tackling him to the ground. Christopher used a wind so strong to punch him off of him, rolling to a standing position.

Kyle and Christopher stood side by side, arms raised in fists, both standing in fighting stances in case they had to continue to fight to defend themselves.

Man 2 and Man 3 stood.

Man 1 stalked closer to throw fire.

Kyle and Christopher ducked behind their van to make the blast of fire soar past them before dissipating.

Kyle raised his hands, using his earthly power to split the ground in between them so that the three men couldn't reach him or Christopher, buying them enough time to get away.

Christopher looked at Kyle. "Now we run?"

"Uh, yeah," Kyle answered, opening the driver's seat door in front of them to get inside at the wheel.

Christopher opened the sliding door to get into the back, sliding it closed.

Kyle hurriedly drove away.

Man 2 used an air so strong that it nearly made the van crash, but Kyle got the van under control once again, continuing to drive away.

Man 3 used water to make the road slick enough to nearly cause them to crash again.

Kyle barely managed to get control back again, swerving to get under control, driving away, leaving the three men in the clearing alone as he got both himself and Christopher away to safety, no longer in danger of dying for the moment, because for people like them, they were always in danger of dying. though people like them could learn to be as good at fighting and using their powers as them so they could survive encounters just like the ones that they had had. Both in the greenhouse in the park, and the one that they just escaped from.

The three men ran to get into their van, chasing Kyle and Christopher's van, but they lost them before they could catch them.

Christopher watched the rear view mirrors to make sure that he and Kyle had lost the three men, and having gotten away, he laughed in relief. "Oh. That was close."

"You think?" Kyle asked.

"Don't get an attitude," Christopher remarked. "We still have to get Alexa."

Kyle nodded in agreement. "The girl thinks that we're trying to hurt her. We have to get Ivan and Andrew's help."

Christopher looked away, sighing, gazing off at nothing thoughtfully. "Yeah. Let's just hope that she lets us help her once she knows that we're not the ones that she needs to be afraid of."
