01.3 ▌The God and the Human
WHEN LEILANI regained consciousness, warmth seeped onto her skin — too warm compared to her room.
She blinked her eyes open only to close them again. She peeked once more, even rubbing her eyes.
But the scene did not change.
In front of her was the sky split in half. One as clear as day and the other as dark as night. In the center was a golden orb floating like a sun. But the worse part was she was floating herself.
"Welcome, child of the Sky."
Goosebumps ran onto her. The voice was so deep like it was from the depths of the earth. She only heard this type of voice from the horror movies that Doctor Jenna advised her not to watch.
"Am I dead?" The voice in her head was incidentally spoken out loud.
"Yes, you are."
"Really?" Her eyes widened but when she realized she was talking to nothing, she stepped back. "W-who are you?" She struggled not to stutter but her mouth has a mind on its own.
"I am Aevum, the primal entity of Time."
"Like a God?"
"Yes. Do let me finish, child. My people had done a deed that broke the flow of the prophecy. As the Sky's progeny, it is your responsibility."
The lingering fear had been replaced by confusion in an instant.
"What do you mean?"
"I will explain to you soon. But for now, the mistakes should be rectified first. I will—"
"Wait, wait, wait. What mistake? What responsibility?" She held out her palm making the thing stop.
"Our time is near child. Listen to me. This is all wrong. You're not supposed to be here but you have no choice. When the other child was taken away, you were also taken because of the strength of your blood."
Her brow shot up.
'How ironic.' One of her illnesses was leukemia and this one was saying there was something in her blood.
"However, this world cannot tolerate two children of the Sky," it continued. "Therefore, I will bless you with another body. But remember, everything has an exchange. You must find the other child of the sky in a year or you will die."
Strangely enough, the thought of dying did not scare her. She had been imagining it for so long that the reality was actually better than her imagination.
Maybe sensing her thoughts, the voice spoke once again.
"Your wish will be fulfilled as long as you agree to find the other child of the Sky—"
"I agree!"
She replied with no hesitation as her black irises sparkled upon its words. She can exchange everything just to be free from all types of medicines and equipment attached to her.
"Fortunately." The strange thing let out a deep breath of relief as if my decision really mattered. "That being agreed, I will give you a seal."
Bright light burst from the orb towards her direction. Leilani flinched but it already covered her whole body. White glow enveloped her until it faded in just a few seconds.
"Child, you must never let anyone find out your real name, or else, my seal will be broken. Don't forget to find the other child the moment I sent you to our world."
"Okay, I just need to find the other one right?"
"Yes."
"Wait, what do they even look like? Name?"
"That is for you to find out for even I could not see the other child. Do remember my words and pray your god will protect you."
Before Leilani could speak, everything had disappeared like it was nothing but a dream.
