Fear. It's the most basic, the most human, emotion. As kids, we're afraid of everything. The dark, the bogyman under the bed, and we pray for morning, for those monsters to go away.
Though they never do, not really. Just ask Jason Blossom.
Another fun fact about fear? Sometimes it grows up with you. Or it curls up inside of you, tightens around your guts.

"Hey, where did you go after the memorial? You just disappeared" Angel states as she walks into the Blue and Gold the morning after the weekend, where she finds Betty and Jughead in front of their murder board. "Wow, did you do this? I feel like I'm in the LAPD again" she exclaims, looking at all the stuff they've pinned on it.

"Anyway, like I said, where were you? I came to Jay-Jays room to help you just to find Nana Rose" Angel says turning to the two with her coffee in her hand. "Polly and Jason were engaged" Betty tells her, shocking the girl as she chokes on her beverage. "Did you know?" "That they were engaged? No, sorry Betty" she replies as she looks to the girl apologetic.

"Anyway" Jughead speaks up, "Betty photographed some stuff from her mother's bag this morning which may help us find Polly and maybe she'll help us find the murderer." "Wow, Betty I wouldn't guess you as one of the bad girl, but then again, you broke into Jasons room" the brunette jokes while the blonde looks at the pictures she took.

""The Sisters of Quiet Mercy". What is that, like a church? Or a charity?" "I think Nana Rose once told us about it. Look it up, Jug" Angel says, sitting down next to the boy as he looks at her funnily for giving him a nickname already. "What? Look it up already" she repeats pointing to the laptop in front of him as he does as told.

"It's a "home for troubled youths"" he says. ""Where disenfranchised teens will learn such virtues as discipline and respect, enjoying lives of quiet reflection and servitude"." "Poor Polly."

"You guys should visit her. I mean she's your sister and it doesn't matter what exactly the problem is that has her staying there, you have a right so see her. And she probably really needs you right now and not some employee that doesn't really know her" Angel tells the girl after a moment of silence, letting the new information sink in. "Yeah, sure, we should go tomorrow during school." "Do you have a car or do you want to borrow mine?" Angel asks the two. "You're not coming with us?" Betty asks. "Yeah, you're one of us now" Jughead adds as the two look at her. "No" she starts uncomfortable, "I don't think it's the best idea. Let's just say, the last time we saw each other didn't really end well. But good luck to you two. Tell her my best wishes, I really hope she's fine."

——

After school the next day, Angel drives home to get the keys and helmet to her motorbike. Where she's about to go, you shouldn't drive with a Rolls Royce. Putting on her red leather jacket and helmet the girl gets onto her bike and driving off towards the Southside of the town with pep.

She knows the way like the back of her hand, been there a lot of times when she visited her best friends, without them knowing of course. Nobody on the Northside would like to have anything to do with the Southside. It's always been like this, especially the last 15-20 years.

Parking in front of the Whyte Wyrm, Angel lays her helmet atop her seat before walking into the biker bar with confidence. She sends the purple haired girl behind the bar a two-finger salut as she makes her way up to the office, ignoring all the looks she gets from the people who haven't seen her before.

With a knock the girl enters the office where the leader of the group sits behind his overflowing desk. "Angel, how are you?" the man asks her, hugging the girl he knows for a long time now. "I'm fine, FP" she starts before correcting herself. "Actually, I'm not fine at all." The two sit down as the girl starts crying. "What's wrong?" he asks her worried, haven't seen her this emotional since the death of her brother a couple of years ago.

"I moved here to get away from everything with mom and Mason only to find out that Jay-Jay got killed and nobody told me about it. Nobody" she cries, burying her face in her hands as the man holds her. "Why did nobody tell me? I thought we're best friends but I didn't get anything. And then there's Polly" the crying girl continues between sobs. "They were engaged, FP. We were together for two years and she steals him from me and gets engaged to him imidetly! That's just wrong and it hurts. It hurts so bad, FP!" Sobbing the girl clings onto him while he rubs her back, trying to calm her down a bit.

"He sold drugs" she says after a while, calmed down now, as she looks up at the man. "Did you guys give it to him?" When he didn't say anything, she repeated herself. "FP, did you sell him drugs?" "It was a one-time job. He wanted cash to run away. I promise you, it really was a one-time thing, nothing else" he tells her. "You know Jughead is going to ask you about it." "You know my son?" "Of course I know your son, we're in the same year. We're working on Jasons homicide together. He and Betty found out about the drugs they're going to find out that he got it from you guys." Frustrated the man runs his hands though his hair and over his face.

Getting a text from the boy they just talked about, Rosella gets up. "I just hope none of your guys or you have anything to do with Jasons death or worse, killed him. I would never forgive you, Jughead would never forgive you, FP." she tells him as she puts her red leather jacket back on and walks to the door. "But thank you for listening to me. I really needed a father figure right now" Angel smiles at him grateful before leaving the Whyte Wyrm and driving to where Jughead texted her they should meet.

"What are we looking for?" Angel asks as soon as she gets off her bike, taking her helmet out. "Polly told me they were going to meet at the old maple sign. There's supposed to be a car, maybe it'll have some leads" Betty explains as they give the girl a flashlight. Nodding Angle walks next to them, slowly they walk towards the old sign, trying not to trip over any trash there lies.

There under an old trap is the car Polly apparently talked about. Getting the trap off, Jughead opens the trunk of it as the three look through the stuff in there.
"Jasons jacket" Angel mumbles as they continue on looking. "What are those?" Betty asks seeing the piles of stuff wrapped in black tape. "Drugs, Betty" Jughead tells her, taking one into his hands to get a better look at it.

"Jughead, put it down" Angel exclaims, slapping it out of his hand. "This is evidence." "This is all evidence" Betty and her say at the same time. "Oh, crap. This whole car is a crime scene" the boy realizes, taking photos of everything. "We need to get Sheriff Keller and then Polly."

Rushing back to Angels bike and Alice' car the two took, the three drive to the school as fast as possible, Jughead texting the sheriff in the meantime. Running into the building they see Sheriff Keller approach them. "I got your text. What is it?" the man asks, as Jughead takes his phone out to show him the pictures he took. "It's Jason's jacket" Angel says. "Where did you get that?" "In the trunk of a car with a bunch of his stuff. Jason was running away with Polly" the blonde girl explains shortly. "Where's the car?"

"At the old maple sign" Jughead states as the four make their way back to the car but what they didn't realize earlier, they were followed and as they arrive at the car a second time that day, it was up in flames and nothing could get saved.

While the sheriff arrives at the car, the trio makes their way through the Sister of Quiet Mercy, wanting to get Polly out, but just like the car, they're hope of saving her went up in flames. Polly wasn't in her room. All she left behind was a broken window with blood on it.

Here's a thing about fear. It's always there. Fear of the unknown, fear of facing it alone. Fear that those closets to you are the monsters. Fear that as soon as you slay one, there's another monster waiting to take its place. Fear that there's one more bogeyman waiting at the end of the dark hall.
