Chapter 7
Erik
What was Aaron doing with Serena? Why did he lie about an office trip to Serilda?
My heart was beating rapidly. Questions were bombarding my mind.
Did Serena do something to Aaron? Was this her trick to hurt everyone? She could have hurt me and Serilda with this? Did she want to destroy us? But why did Aaron go with her? Why would Aaron drive her and where they were going?
I just wanted to kill her for safeguarding the lives of others. She just didn't destroy my life she destroyed all of our life. Mine, Aaron, and Serilda's were the most affected. I buried my brother's happiness with my own hands and just like a puppet I destroyed Serilda's life with my own hands just on the commands of Serena.
"Was she injured badly and are her parents here?" Nathaniel asked with his eyes trained on Chyna who looked more worried than anyone of us. I looked at Nathaniel hoping to see the worry on his face for his wife but there was nothing like that.
"She had a scratch compared to the injuries Aaron had but that is not the most worrisome thing and yes her parents her here but I have asked the treating doctor to keep them waiting," she told us as she picked up some papers from her desk.
"The most concerning thing is neither her injuries nor her family, Nathaniel but it's worse," she put out the papers for him to take and he took them with his eyes staring intensely at Chyna. I could see fear in Chyna's eyes. As soon as Nathaniel read the paper I saw his expression break and worry and fear was evident on his face.
"What is it?" I questioned reaching for the papers in Nathaniel's hand who let them go easily.
"Serena is five months pregnant," Chyna's word had me letting go of the papers. They fell down as dread filled in my heart. It felt like a whole had opened and I was going to open with it. There was an intuition inside of me that everything was going to get worse.
"When she woke up she asked about Aaron frantically. She was in a state of distress and only calmed down when the doctors told her that he was fine. I, later on, had a doctor ask her for the baby's father," Chyna took a pause and it looked as if she was on the verge of crying. My eyes turned to Nathaniel who was tensed at all. The atmosphere inside the room was so thick that it was crushing us.
"She said that he was beside her in the car when the accident happened. She said that they both were going to visit her parents and then the accident happened. Aaron is the father of her baby if we take it by her words," each word Chyna spoke had me falling into darkness. My feet gave away from under me as I fell on the chair.
I couldn't make out any noises anymore. Serena and Aaron. No this could not be true. This could never be true. Aaron could die but he would never hurt Serilda. Not, after all, she went through. Serena had to be lying. This could not be the truth; it never could be. He would not do this to Serilda.
Never. My brother wouldn't do this. He couldn't be this heartless. Something was wrong. There has to be a reason for it. There has to be a reason for everything that was happening. But Aaron was going with Serena. He had lied to everyone. He had lied to me about going on a vacation with Serilda. Lied to everyone in the office about his whereabouts. However, above all, he lied to Serilda about going on an office trip when he was going out with Serena. For how long had this been happening?
How many times had he done this? Did all the times he had planned those business trips was he lying? Had he ever gone with Serilda or was it, Serena? How long had he been having an affair with her?
I was driving myself mad with such questions. No this was all lie. I was wrong. Everyone was wrong. She was lying. This was nothing but her plan to break their marriage. Aaron won't do this ever. Never think of it even.
"Erik!" I felt a stinging feeling on my cheek drawing me out of those rapid thoughts. I looked up to see Chyna standing over me. It was when I looked up at her I registered that she had slapped me. I felt throbbing in my cheek as I came to my senses.
"Are you alright now?" She asked as she crouched down in front of me with Nathaniel not far behind. "I was scared that your body was going into shock,"
"Aaron would never do this to Serilda," I almost yelled to both. "He can die but would never hurt her," I added trying to prove my brother's innocence.
"I know," Nathaniel replied making him have my full attention. "We both know that he wouldn't do something like this and I'm sure he could explain us better once he wakes up."
"It's alright," Chyna added staring at me. "Calm down and we all together will be able to sort everything out."
"What happened between you and Serena?" I asked Nathaniel. "You married her after knowing everything then what happened? I heard you were divorced but why? Tell me why she is always after me and my family. Why?" I was on the verge of tears. Frustrated with Serena for always ruining my life and those I loved. She was the reason why my unborn child died. She was the reason for all the bad things I did to Serilda. She was the reason behind every downfall of mine.
"I married her just to admit her into mental healthcare something her mother would never allow to happen," he sat down on the chair beside mine. "I had never loved her." His words put a halt to all my thoughts.
"I pitied her as a friend. When she used to visit the clinic, I became one of her friends and I couldn't find any faults in her being prescribed such medications. The curiosity got to me and I dig deeper. At first, I thought what everyone did, that it was a sister's rivalry. I had no idea about what had happened between them until it was too late," he told me as he sat in the chair beside me.
"There is so much you have to know about what all is happening but for now we need to keep both of them away from their mother. Neither Serilda nor Serena should meet Amelia at all. She has been doing this to both of her daughters for so long and I have faith that all of this was part of her plan," he told me and I was more than just in shock. What was all happening?
"For no, you go and try to make sure that Serilda is fine and safe for now. Her mother should not meet her at any cost, Erik. Chyna and I will make sure that she doesn't meet Serilda at all and neither Aaron," he said after a pause as if he was thinking all of this through.
"It is going to be harder to keep Serena under control if Amelia meets her and if she came to know Serilda is here we are looking for a disaster to happen," Chyna added breathing a frustrated sigh.
"That's why we all have to be careful," Nathaniel warned.
"How long is it going to take Aaron to wake up?" he asked Chyna.
"Around two or three," she answered.
"He hasn't sustained any injury that is life-threatening?" he questioned with his eyes on the floor.
"No, he is fine. Just some broken bones and a bit of internal bleeding in the abdomen. But he is surely going to be fine as he heals," she replied looking at her brother confusingly.
Silence enveloped the room as Nathaniel sat back with closed eyes.
"Shift Aaron out of here asap," he sighed out. Both Chyna and I looked at him as if he had gone mad. Aaron was still in recovery and he wanted us to move him.
"You know we can't do that," Chyna was the one to shoot down his crazy idea.
"We have to at all costs. Aaron needs to be taken away from here. Where Aaron goes Serilda goes. Take them anywhere but away from this hospital. Just move him out for now," he ordered us with worry all over his face.
"But," Chyna couldn't say anything because Nathaniel cut her off.
"You don't understand. Neither of you do," he tried to explain and I could see misery in his eyes.
"Amelia will do everything in her hands to kill Serilda and Serena both. There is no motherly love in her and do you think she wouldn't have any idea what her precious Serena was all along? I can bet my everything on the fact that she was the one who is behind all of this," his voice rising with each word.
"If Serilda even gets a hint of knowledge that her husband was with Serena who is claiming to be pregnant by her husband she will break. She won't be able to take another hit after what happened last time. You need to take both of them away before Amelia and Serena get a sniff of the fact that you or Serilda is here. The farther and shielded away they are the better position they are in, the safer they are," there was nothing but concern and fear in his voice. So much fear that it raised goosebumps on my skin. Could Serena and Amelia be so dangerous?
"For Serilda to not break down and lose her child you have to take both of them away," he told us both. "Make preparations to have him shifted without letting anyone know especially Serena and her mother," his eyes shifted to Chyna.
"Get him to another hospital, Erik, where they can keep Aaron's presence a secret and more than that keep Serilda safe. I will try on my end here to calm Serena down and keep her away from her mother as long as I can." Standing up he moved around the desk to where Chyna was sitting. Taking out a pen he scribbled something down on the paper.
"This is the name of the few hospitals. Try there I will be giving them a call too. As soon as we get one shift Aaron to there asap," he handed the paper over to me.
"Chyna start with the proceedings. Serilda is ill for now so take that as an excuse and have Erik sign all the papers."
I never realized how deep this all ran but if what Nathaniel said was all true then Serilda and Aaron were in grave danger. This time I would die for them and then let them get hurt.
"Erik, you have to make some excuses to Serilda about why you are doing this. She shouldn't even get a hint of the truth. Anything that can make her believe."
"Chyna get me doctor scrubs, a mask, and a few medications. I have to get into Serena's room. I need to know what is Amelia doing now. I won't let Serilda get hurt again this time," he was determined and for the first time, I realized that he was doing all of this for Serilda.
The worry and fear on his face were for none other than Serilda. The same worry and fear I had over my face and I have seen so many times on Aaron was over his face.
The realization hit me straight, he loved her too. That somewhere deep down the woman I had wronged in the past and devoid of love was now loved by three men and I was one of them.
"Let's get going," those were the last words I heard from him before we all get to work.
