Chapter 17

Serilda

I looked at him in horror. Suddenly it felt like our love had turned him poisnous. As if my love for him rotted him on the inside, choking him, killing him.

Tears rolled down my cheeks looking at him.

"Aaron," his name barely a whisper through my lips. He stared at me as if the replications of his words registered in his mind. His eyes went wide understanding what he had said. The more I stared at him I wondered how could he think of doing something like that. How close he was so close to doing all of this? How close he was to killing someone? Deep inside a worry settled inside of me for him, for us.

"Serilda," I looked at him as my name was called. I thought it was him that had called me but his lips hadn't moved at all. Confusion fell upon me.

"Serilda," my brain couldn't register in the chaos that was someone else who was calling me.

"Serilda," the voice a little louder than before. Aaron's lips hadn't parted for not even a mere second to call to me. Turning around I looked at the door from where my name was called for.

Erik stood there his eyes burning with anger. For a second I saw a glimpse of the man I had known in the past. There was anger and disgust in his eyes. Old memories tried to resurface but his eyes were looking past me at Aaron.

"I think you should leave," Erik said as he entered the room with rage dripping in his voice. "You need to leave," I just stared at Aaron through teary eyes.

"I can't," I said turning my head away from him. I really couldn't leave Aaron when it felt like this. I took a step toward him. It felt as if my whole life was falling to pieces and this time I had no idea what I could do to stop it from crumbling to pieces. The sounds of his sobs hit me in the ears making me turn around towards him to see that he was crying right into his hands and seeing him like that just broke my fragile heart. I wanted to reach out to him but at the same time, a fear had me instilled in my place. Every word of his had felt as if the knife was slowly.

"Don't be crazy Serilda," his words were loud and booming. "You have to for your sanity and safety," he looked past me at Aaron as he spoke those words. Suddenly the fear that was somewhere deep inside of me started to seem real. Aaron's eyes snapped to mine a mix of shock and guilt. He knew what Erik's words meant, the stark reality of what all had transpired was now out in the open.

"What I meant to say is that you need rest," he said coming between me and Aaron. Worry was etched over Erik's face."You need proper rest unlike here on a chair, you need a bed to rest upon. I just feel like your condition is not such that you could stay here for a whole damn day. You haven't been home for the last two days and staying here like this can cause trouble for your health and your child," his hands

"So I advise you to go home, for your own safety," his eyes turned slightly to look toward Aaron who just stared at us with a pained expression. Erik held my hand and I felt a strange sensation as he held it like that.

"I won't hurt you, Serilda," Aaron's voice hit right at my heart and I had no idea how to react. I just stared at him. I knew deep down that he would never hurt me

"Your sane self would never do so, Aaron," Erik said with a slight turn to his head, his voice loud and clear. "And you are not yourself, Aaron. We all know it and i think even you do too," his words left me stunned.

"I don't blame you for being like this but I need you to understand that you are not sane right now," his head turned my way in a pained expression. It felt like he said it from an experience. The memories of the past rushed through me making me take a step back away from him. His hand slipped from mine. All those years I had left behind came rushing to me. The pictures of him and Serena one after another. rushed to my mind. I could see them flashing before my eyes. Images of Aaron and Serena flashed through my mind. Aaron was replacing the face of Erik, I knew my mind was playing tricks on me but the pain I felt was ready to tear me apart.

Aaron's eyes no longer looked at me or him but somewhere past us with a pained expression. As if he burned in agony fighting a battle on the inside. Pain crossed over his face and I wanted to take a step towards him but I didn't something inside of me had held me back. I couldn't move my eyes away from him at all and then in the blink of an eye, everything changed.

I saw the expression on his face change turning him into something I had no idea about. Aaron's face filled with anger and before I could even react or understand anything Aaron turned violent right in front of my eyes. He ripped the drip in his hand violently leaving behind a trail of blood. This behavior of his had me instilled with a mix of fear and shock. I was unable to move an inch from where I was. My throat had turned dry as if my senses had shut down. As if I was a body without a soul. Erik faced me, his eyes staring at me while mine were in the blur of the moments.

Aaron was running towards us as if in a state of frenzy.

"Serilda," Erik called my name bringing an iota of my senses back. My eyes snapped to Erik who had no idea what was going on behind his back.

"Aaron," I screamed at the top of my lungs as the distance between us closed down.

As Erik swiftly turned to face Aaron's incoming punch, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. The sound of their collision echoed around us, mixing with my own cries of desperation. Despite Erik's efforts to restrain him, Aaron seemed completely lost to reason, consumed by a violent frenzy.

A surge of primal fear washed over me, threatening to overwhelm my senses. I took a step back with each passing moment, silently pleading for protection for my unborn child amidst the chaos unfolding before us.

"Erik, please!" I shouted, my voice trembling with fear and urgency.

But Erik's anguished groan only added to the uproar as Aaron's nails dug into his flesh violently, even drawing blood. "Stop this Aaron!" Erik's voice was strained with pain and desperation, but Aaron remained unmoved.

With a sickening crunch, Aaron's teeth sank into Erik's shoulder, and a guttural cry of agony escaped from his lips. I recoiled in horror, feeling a surge of nausea as I watched the violence unfold before my eyes. His actions were futile despite Erik's efforts to pry Aaron's mouth away. He raised his hand to push back Aaron's mouth away from his shoulder and he was able to but he had freed one of Aaron's hands.

"Erik," I screamed out as I saw Aaron's fist raise. Before Erik could even react, Aaron's fist struck him viciously in the stomach, causing him to double over in pain.

"Aaron, stop please!" I cried out, my voice trembling with fear and helplessness. But at that moment, as chaos consumed us, it felt like there was nothing I could do to stop the madness unfolding before me.

"Serilda call for help," Erik screamed at the top of his lungs just before Aaron's hand fist struck him again right into the face. I should do something to bring back Aaron but I couldn't not without losing me and my child. Erik punched Aaron in the face to have him push back on the bed. His hands once again trapped Aaron. Erik pushed him back to the bed with all his might.

"Call for help," Serilda!" Erik's words snapped me from my feared faze. My steps fastened towards where they were. I knew I needed to press the button for emergency and I pressed on it repeatedly.

"I will kill you!!" Aaron's voice boomed in the room as he pushed Erik back with all the force. Erik stumbled back in a jerk falling right on the floor. Aaron screamed out in agony. His eyes were focused on Erik on the floor, I could see that there was nothing but blood in his eyes.

I tried to move between them as Aaron charged towards Erik.

"No, Serilda!" Erik screamed just before Aaron's fist landed right on his face. "Stay....where...you," I heard those trembling words of his clearly as tears rolled down my cheek. Aaron punched him one after another as I fell down on the floor with fear instilled in me. Everything felt crumbling. My breaths came out shallow. I felt like I was losing it all. I could see nothing with tear-blurred eyes.

The door was jerked open and the nurse and doctor came rushing in. I saw their blurred figures. They were shouting and screaming. More people came rushing in. I could hear screams, shouts, and cries but I could no longer decipher who they were. I felt tired. My mind was closing itself. I was closing myself and then all I saw was black.
