∆Chapter 17∆

Finals week was the most exhausting one. I was just dragging my body and my eyes to stay vigilant and open instead of dozing off while writing the papers. So to say that I was relieved for them to be done and over with would be an understatement.

My exaltation, however, didn't last for long because Destiny made sure to remind me about my rapping performance at Coachella's "huge stage" at every chance she got.

Sitting at my study desk, I stared at the lyrics I'd written some few months ago in a diary. I was trying to memorize them while tapping my fingers on my thigh to form a beat. To be honest, I wasn't going to do this Coachella performing stuff but then this fire burning inside of me wanted to take this moment of opportunity as my own.

To celebrate the last day of Coachella this year, my group was bursting with messages. Already feeling distracted, I decided to check them out as well. I was surprised though when I saw all the "best of luck" messages directed toward me.

Who Dat:
For the first time I feel like we're actually gonna give this group a proper justification by talking about "Coachella" lol.

Destiny:
Yaaasss!! And I am veryyyyy excited, everybody!!!!

Don't Know:
Yes, "everybody" can see that.

Ashton:
I can't wait for Ser to rap on stage. Good luck, gal <3

Who Dis:
Best of luck, Calamity!!!

Who Dat:
Yaayy!! Best of luck! I know you're gonna rock the stage and our souls!

Destiny:
This mama right here is proud of ya, Ser babayy! I am not crying, YOU ARE, babe! I know you're gonna be AWESOME!!!

Don't Care:
I know nobody missed me and cared about me but HEY, CALAMITY, IMMA ROOTIN FOR YOU!!!!

Changcasm Not On Fleek:
Since everyone's saying this… here I go too. FIGHTING!!!

Don't Care:
I just realized… why is she never online?

Yours Truly:
I am not going into a battlefield but I feel so much better after this confidence boost. So… THANK YOU!!!!
P.S.: Jordan, I do come online. I am just too lazy to reply.

Destiny:
Girrllllll, not a battlefield but a field nonetheless hahahahaha

Changcasm Not On Fleek:
*laughs sarcastically*

Don't Know:
*watches the upcoming drama with a popcorn bowl in his hands*

Destiny:
*beating everyone's backside with my magical broomstick*

Ashton:
*joins his babe* <3

Who Dat:
*sits with a bated breath for the showtime*

Changcasm Not On Fleek:
*-_-*

Destiny:
*hopes that everyone knows I am talking about their butts which means they can't chill*

Who Dis:
*screams while getting beaten by Destiny*

Don't Care:
*as usual following the trend*

Yours Truly:
*leaves the chat like a queen I am*

----------

As soon as Destiny had seen me, she couldn't stop gushing about my outfit. I was wearing a white crop top paired up with a denim skirt that reached above my thighs along with ankle length leather synthetic boots. My mom had done me a huge favor by tying my hair into two cute braided top knots.

Destiny looked pretty in her yellow sundress donned with knee high strappy sandals. She kept her hair open but she still managed to look really good.

"So which song are you gonna sing?" Ashton asked, hurdling around me like the others.

We were currently standing at the side of the stage. Blake, Jordan, Brandon and Derek were way too excited for me to perform while Ashton and Destiny couldn't stop laughing at me. They still thought that I was unhappy with their decision. And Chang… well he was just being Chang. He gave me a thumbs up and stayed silent the whole time, not that I minded.

He was dressed simply in dark jeans and a baby blue shirt.

"I am pretty sure it's gonna be Eminem's," Derek chirped, clicking his fingers.

"Nah, I think it could be Cardi B's," Brandon argued. "So who's right, Calamity?"

"Actually… no one. I am going to rap my own song." I shrugged, trying my best to hide my embarrassment.

With that said, all hell broke loose. All of my friends began firing questions at me while squealing like banshees except for Chang but he did raise his eyebrows at me as if impressed.

"Take it a notch down, guys." I tried to calm them down while gesturing the same with my hands. I had to roll my eyes when they didn't even listen to me.

Chang's fingers wrapped around my arm to pull me aside and I was more than thankful for that. He turned to the others with a grim expression. "You all better join the crowd to cheer Calamity here."

"What about you?" Destiny crossed her arms across her chest with a scowl.

"I'll join you guys in about five minutes. Oh, and Destiny, Blackpink's performing next. I don't think… you'd wanna miss that?" Chang smirked, wiggling his brows and I had to stop myself from laughing.

She didn't need to be told twice because she literally dragged everyone out of there and toward the crowd arena. "Come on, come on, come on, come on. Move it, boys!"

Soon enough, it was just Chang and I. "I lied. Blackpink has a closing performance actually." He grinned cheekily.

I chuckled softly before looking at him. "I know that 'cause I am next," I told him.

Tucking his hands in his pockets, he passed me one of his dazzling smiles which gave me tons of assurance in an instant. "Fighting, okay?" He lifted up his fist.

I couldn't help but laugh again. "Thank you, Chang," I said and pulled him in for a hug.

Our moment was broken however, as I heard my name being called on stage. All those anxious thoughts I had asked to run away from me? Well, they returned home right at that moment.

Breaking the embrace, I pulled up my lips into a tight smile. Just as I had taken one step, I heard Chang saying those serotonin words to me in his strong voice. "Serenity, just saying… you're a weapon and weapons don't weep."

Passing one last grateful smile to him, I walked away from him and took my position at the center of the stage while my heart was literally inside my throat. To calm down myself, I pictured those phoenix wings lifting me up. That did the trick. It took a few minutes to set everything up and when all the lights went out, I clutched the microphone tightly within my hand.

I couldn't spot my friends in this humongous crowd but the thought of them being there comforted me immensely. "Hey, everybody! I am Serenity Lewinski and I… really hope you enjoy my rap!" My voice echoed throughout the entire place and I grinned to myself because there were loud cheers and hollers from everywhere.

To prepare myself, I inhaled a deep breath and drummed my fingers on my thigh to get into the rhythm.

"T-T-Took my soul, got in a brawl, now you are my goal. Smeared my kohl, called me a doll, now you are my goal. You are my goal (you are my goal). A goal to kiss your face with my fist."

As soon as I finished singing that part, I heard the whole crowd going bonkers. It might not have been my rapping but more like the energy to scream at almost everything. I didn't mind at all because it gave me a leeway to continue.

"M-M-Might run around, free on the grounds, now I am a hound. You might be crowned, the king of the round, now I am a hound. I am the hound (I am the hound). A hound to bear my teeth on your flesh."

I braced myself to sing the chorus part because it was a bit arduous for me. I love rapping but singing sort of came with difficulty to me.

"I am not gonna stop even if my knuckles bleed, ain't gonna stop chasing you even if my feet trips. Gonna take you on a high road, beat you like a slow poke. You better take my word for it. Take my word for it (my word for it)."

I was in a trance and nothing seemed important to me anymore. I had written this song with a lot of my pent up frustration and feelings. To get a moment to get it all out was transcendental. It felt beyond good to belt out those lyrics aloud angrily.

I was sighing heavily for a few minutes by the time I was done rapping and lifted up my hand to exclaim happily. "Thank you, everyone!" Handing over the mic to some technical person, I jogged toward the backstage when my phone vibrated in my pocket.

Rolling my eyes, I pulled it out to see two messages from Caleb. For a moment, I just kept on staring at his name because I was scared. Scared to see what it was that he had to say. I gulped grittingly and clicked open his messages.

Detective Caleb (at 5:17 pm):
3 years. 3 fucking years!

Detective Caleb (at 5:24 pm):
And I finally completed the one huge promise I had made to you.
