         Paris was one of June Jimenez's favorite cities in the world. When she'd been younger she'd spent endless nights dreaming of visiting it, getting to see the Eiffel tower lit up during the night, visit the Louvre, and do all those touristy activities she would read about in her books, or watch people do through her tv screen.

June was a hopeless romantic, so, by default, she'd fallen deeply in love with the one place in the world that was known as the City of Love.

In any other occasion getting to attend Paris Fashion Week would have been an honor; something she would have been over the moon for — possibly to the point of driving her friends crazy with her excitement over getting to attend the event. Instead, she'd driven them crazy with her overthinking and anxiety.

Over two months she spent dreading the moment the week would eventually arrive, convinced something would cause it to go entirely wrong, or that she would end up having a panic attack in public. Yet, to her own, and everyone else's, surprise, mere hours away from the very same Monday she'd been so afraid of, she felt uncharacteristically calm and collected.

The whole situation got even more shocking and out of character when adding the fact that on that very same Sunday afternoon, the day before Fashion Week started, she was supposed to meet up with Tucker Pillsbury for coffee. By herself. Situation that, any other time, would have led her to be an anxious mess.

When she went to sleep on Saturday night, June had thought she would wake up the next morning, remember what her plans for that and the couple of days were and would try to come up with a thousand different excuses, not only to avoid hanging out with the man who'd so kindly offered her his company, but to get out of the week's event entirely. Instead, she'd woken up and hadn't thought about any of it once. Only remembering it all when Tucker himself texted her that he'd landed — and, still then, she'd felt strangely calm.

June had been the first out of the two to arrive to the coffee place they had previously agreed to meet at — not because she'd wanted to get acquainted with the place and figure out possible scape routes, but because she'd finished getting ready early and the place was a closer walking distance to her hotel than his.

She'd been in the middle of texting with her manager, Lilian, who had been letting her know when her clothes for the week would be dropped at her hotel, when she heard a familiar voice call her name.

"June? Hey," he had started to say before she had looked up, "Sorry if you've been waiting for a while. I kinda slept through my alarm a little..." He chuckled, and, looking back, that should have been the moment June figured out she was screwed.

The tall man stood right across the table from her, wearing an equally apologetic and nervous smile, which had looked so adorable on him that it made June smile right back at him before she'd realized she'd done so.

"Hi!" She exclaimed as she very awkwardly waved while, for some reason, getting up from her seat. "Don't worry, I just got here." She caught herself lying for absolutely no reason.

Tucker looked at her as if she'd said something funny, arched his brow and then looked down at table that stood in between them. Confused, June followed the direction in which he'd looking at, only to be met with an almost empty coffee mug. Her almost empty coffee mug. The exact one she'd been drinking of when he walked into the place.

"Sure..." He chuckled, as a teasing smile took over his lips.

Shaking her head in embarrassment, June admitted, "I have no idea why I just lied..."

"There's no need to lie to make me feel better for being late." He said while pulling his chair back and sitting on it.

"I wasn't—"

With his arms crossed in front of his chest, head tilted upwards as she was now the taller one, and a funny smile, he told her, "I was joking, June."

"Oh."

"You can sit back down, by the way."

"Right..." She mumbled as she did just as she was told. "Sorry, I'm a bit nervous." Lie. "If you remember, I warned you that I tend to feel like this..."

"I remember," he nodded, resting both of his arm on the table, and exposing all of his tattoos that weren't covered by his clothes to her. June had to restrain herself from staring at them and pay attention to what he was saying. "I also told you there's no reason to feel that way. We've met before. Shortly, but we have."

"See, you're forgetting one small detail."

"What?"

"Feeling nervous is in my nature."

Although, for some reason she couldn't quite figure out, she had yet to feel that way since she woke up.

"We're best friends, you don't get nervous around your best friends." He reasoned, making her laugh just as she brought the coffee cup to her lips.

"Again, we've only known each other, as in talked to each other, for three days now." She reminded him, repeating the words she'd used on their text conversation the previous day.

"Exactly. That's a lifetime, June!"

By the way he was smiling at her — softly, as if he cared — she could tell he was only bringing up the whole best friends conversation to make her feel comfortable, in an attempt to ease her into their evening, and, although she felt strangely fine, she found his attempt rather endearing.

"Are you going to order something?" She asked, both to change the subject, and to show him she was comfortable.

"Right. Do I have to go inside to order?"

"Yeah, you do."

"I'll be right back then." It was only once he was about three or four steps away from their table that he turned around and said, "Don't you dare run away from me," which made her laugh rather loudly — getting a few nasty stares from the people around them — because, although she hadn't thought of doing that, that day, any other day she would have.

"I'll be right here." She replied, completely unaware of the smile that couldn't, or, rather, refused, to leave her lips.

AUTHOR'S NOTE ✷ i am so sorry for disappearing after saying so many times that i wouldn't do that 😭😭 life got too hectic and i was overwhelmed and kinda deleted everything but im better and back (or at least will try to be)
