2. OH SWEET CANARY
a free verse poetry
-
Oh, Sweet Canary
A canary whose views were curtained by obscure shadows,
High pitched voice heard in the tiny compartment,
When all she thought liberty is in her hands,
There's no way out,
Sweet naivety is a bliss to those who wish to soar, sometimes.
Feather flew in the air as if a snow storm passed,
The canary felt shakes and tremors; skin trembling.
What more will be needed to be faced when there's no right direction?
Swinging on the little golden swing—the canary's head shake,
Curiosity sipped but to those innocents—bound to be exploited.
Eyes glistened with wonder, what more can a single flap of feathers reach?
Breathing hitched with expectations—is still there change, a chance for a lone bird to be heard?
”Eek, eek” cries or an expectant bird's call, as the darkness fall,
A single tear when light welcomed the glistening gems,
Staring face to face with another breathing—
Those who have been alone too long craved a companionship.
But the wolf is dressed in a sheep's clothing,
So is a hunter in a friendly villager's garb.
The bird tried to fly, testing how high one reach without the limits,
Gratitude to the one who gave liberty,
Yet again the bird's eye was tampered,
Lightness can be dark, when venom of envy plant in one's heart,
Not everyone is fond of a free one,
Nor one who can reach—peaks.
Oh, sweet canary—when will you use your voice for yourself?
For you who had been imprisoned before, offer tributes to yourself,
Oh, lovely one, wings are for you not to be used for others
Honor your life,
For the one who freed you,
In the first place was the one who captured you.
