GENERAL BACKSTORY : ̗̀➛

on the surface, his childhood appeared relatively normal, it just looked like a single mother who worked hard to raise her son, but the reality was far from it. born into a family that seemed functional from the outside, carden's upbringing was marked by the toxic presence of his emotionally abusive mother and the absence of his father.

from a young age, carden's mother subjected him to relentless emotional abuse. she was constantly tearing down his self-worth, even without any provoking from carden. she would belittle him, criticize his every move, and manipulate his emotions to assert control. his mother's behavior left him feeling worthless, unlovable, and deeply wounded. she started the abuse so soon in his upbringing that carden doesn't actually know what it's like to be confident. he never had time to build any, really.

adding to his burden, carden's father was largely absent from his life, with his only exposure to his father being a couple of photographs. his absence left carden yearning for a father figure, someone to offer guidance, support, and love. the void created by his father's absence further amplified the pain inflicted by his mother's abuse. whenever he would ask about his father, the typical answer was "well, who knows. he'd probably still be somewhere around if you weren't."

as time went on, the severity of his mother's actions became evident to concerned individuals. especially after carden started speaking of "leaving" so that his father could come back and his mom could be happy. they intervened and took action to protect carden from further harm. recognizing the toxic environment he was living in, authorities arranged for him to live with his grandparents. this happened when he was about 13.

moving in with his grandparents brought a much-needed respite from his mother's abuse. their home became a sanctuary and offered stability and a sense of safety that carden had longed for. however, the scars of his past didn't vanish overnight, and the weight of his traumatic childhood continued to haunt him. outwardly, he appears resilient and unaffected by his past, but realistically, he still carries the weight of his mother's words and actions.
