Synopsis: Casey and Izzie find out some astonishing things about their kids' friends
"So what're your plans tonight Dr Gardner?" One of the nurses asked Izzie as they walked down the corridor.
"It's my first half-day in a long time so I'm gonna go pick up my kids from school and Casey from training and then we're gonna go out for dinner," Izzie replied, smiling as she thought about finally being able to spend time with her family. Work has been hectic the last months and Casey's really been exceeding her limits with training schedules.
When Izzie reached the kindergarten, she put her car into park and waited outside, leaning against the hood. She saw a group of children running out to meet their parents but her kids were no where to be seen.
Her phone dinged and she pulled it out to see a text from Casey. It was a picture of her after her workout.
Casey: Getting those GAINZ
Casey: I look so good holy shit
Casey: You're so lucky to be married to me
Izzie chuckled before thinking of a reply. Right then, she heard a familiar voice and she looked up to see her kids running to her.
"Hey guys!" Izzie said cheerfully as they hugged her. Izzie bent down to their height and then looked up to see their teacher, Mrs Whitacker walking towards them.
"Oh hi Mrs Whitacker," Izzie greeted. "Have they been giving you any trouble?"
She laughed before shaking her head. "Not at all. They're a joy to teach. I was hoping to talk to you actually."
Izzie raised her eyebrows. "Oh? Alright."
"I was hoping that you and your wife could come give a talk to the kids next week. About your careers. I know many of them are huge fans of Casey after seeing her at the Olympics. Plus, Megan told the class that you 'cut open people' for a living which really got some of them excited," She explained and Izzie could not help but laugh.
Her mind immediately raced to her schedule and was worried that she had too many surgeries scheduled to make it.
"You don't have to decide now of course. Tell your wife about it first. You have my number!"
Izzie smiled and nodded as Mrs Whitacker walked away.
"Mummy please do it! It would be so cool! You can even cut open some of my friends!" Megan said, tugging on her sleeve. "Baby you know that's not how it works right?"
"And Mum can race all the kids in the playground! It would be so fun!" Declan continued and Izzie sighed. "I have to talk to your mum about it first okay? Come on, we gotta go pick her up."
The kids sat silently at the back as Izzie parked outside Casey's gym. Casey walked up, fresh and showered, with her gym bag slung around her shoulder.
"Hello my three children!" Casey greeted, opening the car door.
"Mum, is Jason there today?" Declan asked as Casey sat down. "Yeah, he trained me today. Why?"
"Can we go see him?" Megan squealed and Casey looked at them in confusion. "Why do y'all wanna see Jason?"
"He let us in the boxing ring the other time. He's so cool!"
"Jason let y'all in the boxing ring? When?"
"Last week. We saw you and mummy going into the shower so we were bored and Jason saw us."
Izzie and Casey looked at each other, wide-eyed and blushing furiously.
"You could have gotten hurt," Casey said before grunting her jaw. Megan and Declan sulked at Casey's anger.
"Fine. Be back in 10 minutes. And no using any of the equipment," Casey finally gave her permission and the kids smiled brightly before getting out of the car.
Casey and Izzie watched their kids go into the gym before Casey turned to look at her wife. "Sooo... how was work?" Casey asked and Izzie smiled before pecking her on the lips.
"Good. You know the kids' teacher, Mrs Whitacker?"
Casey nodded.
"She was asking if the two of us could come talk to the kids next week. About our careers."
"Yikes."
"You don't think it's a good idea?"
"Not that, I'm just not very good with kids."
"I happen to think you are very good with our kids," Izzie said and Casey smiled. "That's cause I love them."
Izzie rested her head on Casey's shoulder. "They look up to you. The kids at the kindergarten. Casey Gardner, Olympic gold winner."
"That's sweet. What am I gonna say though?"
"We could practise this week during our free time."
Casey smiled and nodded before the kids came back into the car.
"Looks like your mum and I are following you kids to school next week," Casey said and they started to cheer as Izzie laughed.
"Now I get to prove to Winston how cool you guys are!" Declan said and Casey and Izzie looked at each other in confusion.
"Winston? Who's that?"
"One of my friends."
"He doesn't think we're cool? Because you can tell that brat that we're very cool," Casey scoffed and Izzie put her hand on her arm to calm her down.
"It's not that. He teases me for having two mums and not a dad."
Izzie immediately pulled over. "Wait what? Declan, Winston said that to you?" Izzie asked, turning around.
"Yeah... I've always wondered why our family is different. Winston has a dad, Sarah has a dad. Only Megan and I have two mums."
"Ashley says it's because there's a magic fairy who randomly casts spells on families to have two mums," Megan chimed in and Casey couldn't help but smile at her innocence but Izzie wanted to get back to what Declan had said.
"Was there a situation that made Winston say that to you?"
"We were playing football and I couldn't score so he said it was because I didn't have a dad to teach me how to play football."
"And did that make you upset?" Izzie asked, holding his hand. "Not really. I'm not really interested in football anyways. If I was I would have asked y'all to teach me."
"How did you and mum meet? Ashley said her parents met at a place called Tinder," Megan said and Casey choked on the water she was drinking. "Oh I bet they did sweetheart," Casey said, giggling as Izzie rolled her eyes.
"Where did Winston's parents meet?" Izzie asked Declan. "I'm pretty sure he said they met at a football game."
"Ugh, straight couples," Casey whispered to Izzie and she giggled. "Alright we'll tell you how we met. It's a long story though. So anyone up for ice cream?" Izzie asked, starting the car as the kids cheered.
Once they had reached the ice cream shop and they had gotten their scoops, Megan and Declan sat opposite Casey and Izzie on one of the swings.
"One thing you have to know about your mum is that she played very, very hard to get," Casey started and Megan and Declan looked confused.
"She really tried to pretend like she wasn't attracted to me. But it was SO clear she had the hots for me. She would never keep her eyes off me," Casey continued with a smirk and Izzie sighed. "Case they don't understand anything you're saying," Izzie said as Megan and Declan were focussed on eating their ice cream.
"You know it's true though. You could never keep your hands off me..." Casey muttered, firmly holding Izzie's thigh. "Just wait till we get home," Izzie mumbled, side-eyeing to make sure their kids weren't paying attention. Thankfully they were playing some form of hand game with each other.
"You gonna punish me nerd?" Casey asked and Izzie blushed at the use of the old nickname. "Continue the story!" Megan said, breaking them out of the tension.
"You guys know Aunty Erika right? When we were 16, she brought me to a party where I first met your mum. And I spilled a drink on her!"
They continued their story for a solid hour, leaving out parts that were too complex to understand, as the kids listened in awe. "So a date is something that two women do together? When they love each other?" Megan asked.
"Not necessarily two women, baby. You just go on a date with someone you love. It can be big or small but it's the time spent together that matters," Izzie explained after Casey talked about their first date in the tent in the park.
"Oh! Is that why Justin asked me on a date?" Megan asked and their jaws dropped. "Justin asked you on a date?! No way, you're too young," Casey immediately said. "But mummy said it's something you do with someone you love. And I love Justin," Megan continued and Casey sighed. "No you don't baby."
"I love Grandma and she brought me shopping last week. I can't wait to tell everyone next week that I went on a date with my grandma," Declan said, grinning. "Oh my God Declan no. Okay just forget about the date thing. You guys don't have to understand that now," Izzie said.
"Well what about your wedding?" Megan asked and Casey blushed. She always got extra emotional whenever she thought about the day she married Izzie. "Oh it was beautiful. And you know what was the best part about it? I got to tell everyone, your grandma, your grandpa, Uncle Sam, everyone how much I love your mother. And I vowed to be hers forever," Casey said, putting her arm around Izzie before kissing the top of her head.
"So can I marry Justin?" Megan asked and Casey snickered.
"The happiness I find with mum is impossible to find with anyone else. Marrying a woman and giving my children two mothers just felt right. And we can't blame Winston for finding it weird because he's still young," Izzie said with a smile.
"But that doesn't mean you can't kick his ass when he says that again. He needs a reality check. What's his last name?" Casey asked.
"Richards," Declan replied and Casey dramatically gasped. "Richards?! His dad is Tyler Richards! That douchebag in my year at Clayton, do you remember babe?!"
"No..." Izzie mumbled, trying to recollect. "Declan, don't bother about Winston. His dad's a real cranky puss. Got his head up his ass."
Casey ignored Izzie's gentle slap on her arm because of the foul language in front of the kids. "When I was in high school, he spread a rumour that I slept with his girlfriend. I mean that's so far fetched! I had absolute NO interest in his girlfriend but she was very clear she wanted to get with me," Casey smirked and Izzie groaned.
"Babe! They're 6 and 7!" Izzie whispered. "Oops, sorry I got carried away."
The next week, Casey and Izzie were scheduled to show up to the kindergarten for their talk in the afternoon as the last lesson. Izzie had picked Casey up from training. When they got out of the car, Casey was immediately approached by an older-looking woman.
"Hey. Casey right? I saw your interview on TV, you were so good," She said flirtatiously and Izzie rolled her eyes. "Thank you, thank you," Casey replied politely. "I'm Daisy's mother. I have to pick her up to send her to her dad's cos... I'm recently divorced."
Izzie wanted to laugh at how obvious this woman was being and she watched patiently from the side of the car. "Well, I'll see you around!" Casey said, clear that she wanted to end the conversation. The woman nodded awkwardly before leaving.
Casey turned around to see Izzie smiling and she smirked before walking up to her.
"Jealous?" Casey asked, wrapping her arms around her waist.
"Very. A very hot milf just tried to get with you."
"You're my very hot milf," She said, bending down to kiss her.
"I'm telling you now, when you're up there using all these long sexy medical terms when talking to these kids, I'm gonna jump on you," Casey continued. "In front of the kids Casey Gardner?" Izzie gasped. "In front of Ms Milf too."
After the presentation, many kids ran up to them, begging Casey for pictures and taking turns to try out Izzie's stethoscope. Casey looked over and smiled at the sight of Izzie helping Winston to listen to his own heart beat.
After he got off her lap, Izzie walked over to sit with Casey, taking in the sight of the excited chatter of the kids.
Izzie tapped Casey's shoulder and pointed over to Winston and Declan engaged in a conversation. They tried to listen in and smiled at the words.
"Your mums are really cool, Declan."
"I know."
