Part 32

Nate was the first one to hop out of the car. Sean climbed out next, trying to see in the dimly lit area. All while Nate pointed to the small white lights on either side of the entrance way that they were about to go through, informing them softly. "See these? This makes this area a safe zone. The Raptors see by night vision googles. These lights white out their vision. So, they won't come through here." Sean moved to the front, his grip tightening on his bow as he grumbled out nervously. "Please tell me the Raptors are guys in blown up costumes...?" Nate patted his arm with a small smirk, answering discreetly. "They are men in costumes." Sean's eyes narrowed on Nate. Nate had avoided answering the question. LadyKiller and RumTumTigger moved in closer and when they had all taken a moment to collect themselves... They started in. Keeping to the wall, Sean slipped between the hanging vines. He hadn't seen anything yet and his heart was already racing. They came out to a divide and Sean stopped to see if he could peek around.

He didn't see any raptors in either direction. He was about to choose the left, when a loud dino call bellowed out across the area from the far side. The audio jumped to rustling leaves and falling trees as a man screamed. Sean stepped back into Nate nervously. Nate hugged him for a second, whispering to him. "They triggered a long neck. We're ok." Sean nodded, then froze as loud raptor purrs filled the left side. Nate covered Sean's mouth as a large seven- or eight-foot raptor crept out from a path just to their left. The thing was very realistic looking as the head glanced in one direction then the next. It moved slow and made sounds that gave Sean goosebumps all over. Nate was right. It was moving in the direction of the noise. The long tail swayed behind it as it carefully walked down the left path. Sean lowered Nate's hand to peek around the corner to see it better. The raptor stopped, rising to its full height and bellowed a hooting call that was returned from across the arena. In his ear, Nate whispered to him. "Their hunting the other team. Cutting off their exits. We should move."

Sean nodded, pointing to the path on his right and gesturing for them to go. He was going to stay and keep watch on the raptor that was still hanging out in the left path. Nate waved back to the others and helped them silently creep down the right path. When they were out of sight, Sean moved to follow. Sean patted RumTumTigger's shaking shoulder as he past to give her some support. Moving back up to the front, he started to lead the way again. The soft crunching of grass made him uneasy enough to slow down. They couldn't go back to avoid it... but he didn't see anything. The walls were covered in thick fake jungle forestry and mist clung to everything. He informed the others by tapping his ear. A signal that he heard something. Nate leaned in to listen, then whirled around to look behind them. The forestry along the wall suddenly parted and the head of a massive three horn lifted to bellow out a startled call. Nate leapt for RumTumTigger, covering her mouth before she screamed and tried to run away.

The three horn rattled its head, then lowered it slowly to eat again as the trees moved back. Sean released his breath, then swallowed his tongue as a slender head pushed through the vines over his shoulder. It was all too clear now that not all these walls were actually in fact walls. The raptor head purred very softly, the jaw jiggling as it did to show off its short sharp teeth. Sean very slowly touched LadyKiller who turned and gawked in horror. The raptor slowly started to turn to look down in their direction and Sean removed his pistol to fire at the Raptor head. The green LED markings and its bright yellow LED eyes turned off, but that didn't stop it from retreating enough to bellow out sharp calls for help. Nate shoved RumTumTigger forward, telling her seriously. "RUN!" LadyKiller took her sisters hand and dashed after Sean as they raced down the path. Gun shots and terrified screams started to fill the air as the raptors started moving more actively. They raced out into a clearing by accident, just in time to see another team member jump behind a short carcass looking barrier with a loud scream.

Right behind the member was a raptor that was hot on his trail. It didn't even slow down at the barrier. It jumped on top of it! The raptor crouched, resting its hands on the edge as it let out sharp ear-piercing screams at the man crawling away. True to the scientist's word, the Raptor stayed perched on the wall like a statue. Simply watching the player crawl to a wall. Sean gestured for LadyKiller to take her sister behind the carcass barrier to his right, just as the raptor tilted its head in their direction. A deep purr left the raptor and Sean shivered. These people were too good at making these raptors really scary. The raptor shuffled around to face them, and Sean shouted to Nate boldly. "Protect them!" Sean raised his bow, pulling back the string to light up the LED light to aim at the raptor. The raptor leapt off the barrier, dashing quickly into a wall of vines. Nate rushed past him to lead the others through the graveyard of skeleton carcasses and half eaten bodies. Sean kept his bow at the ready, waiting for the raptor to come back.

It felt too easy that it would just run away... and he was right. From a wall of vines, a raptor leapt through with a loud scream! Sean released the string, causing the raptor's LEDs to shut off and it retreated. He was about to cheer, when he felt hot breath on his shoulder. Turning around, he jumped away with a scream. The bastard had snuck up on him and was trying to extend a clawed hand out to tag his vest with the light on his palm. Sean ran a across the way to try and line up another shot, just as two more stepped through the vines on either side of the graveyard. Sean grinned nervously, going for his pistol as they closed in on him. Their jaws snapped playfully at him to make him jerk. They started to raise their claws, when Nate and LadyKiller moved back into the graveyard to lit them up with their rifles. The raptors screamed, retreating into the vines. Sean fell to his knees in shock. Taking deep breaths, he watched Nate hop over a carcass barrier. Nate extended his hand to help him back up as he playfully purred out. "Do you always have to be so dramatic?"

Sean shrugged, giggling out. "Ya, well... I was trying to sacrifice myself for you to get away." Nate rolled his eyes, mumbling out. "As if I'd leave your ass behind. Come on this is a bad place to be." More guns roared to life from the other team and Sean picked up his pace, telling Nate. "They recover fast!" Nate chuckled nervously, saying grimly. "No shit. There are five raptors out there." Sean did a head count, then asked Nate anxiously. "Nate? Where is Tigger?" Nate pointed up just ahead, then slid to a stop. A raptor stepped out into their path, crouching menacingly as it screamed and raised its hands. They jumped to the sides, forcing the raptor to pick a target. The raptor stepped forward, pointing its hands at Nate. Nate jumped away and lifted his gun... when a shotgun went off. The raptors LEDs turned off and it ran away, revealing a shaking Tigger behind it. Nate lowered his gun with a grin, giving her a bow. Tigger lowered her gun, scolding them shortly. "Don't you dare leave me here again!" Nate ran up to her to ruffle her hair, telling her happily. "Good job!"

They followed a path deeper in with Nate leading the way. Sean protected the rear with his bow to give Tigger a breather. They walked through a cluster of hanging vines into a large nest area. For a brief moment, they were excited. Until two rival team members burst into the area and opened fire. LadyKiller flipped into a large nest and Nate ducked behind another. Sean tugged Tigger to the ground to hide behind a rock barrier. The rival team raced to the big nest up a narrow set of rock stairs, where one of their members snatched up the large egg. The second the egg was removed, a massive T-Rex head burst through forestry behind the nest to roar at them. The noise was loud enough that everyone covered their ears. Except for the guy with the egg, who toppled back down the steps in shock. The guy hit the floor, releasing the egg. His team member dashed for it... but so did Tigger! Sean tried to stop her, but she managed to grab it. The rival team member shot her, but she pushed the egg away, screaming out. "GET IT!" LadyKiller jumped out of the nest to blast the man with her rocket launcher, catching him right in the chest.

Nate shot the member who had fallen by the stairs, then cursed. The raptors were sounding off and rushing for the location. Nate turned to Sean, telling him quickly. "You're the fastest runner. Get that thing out of here!" Sean picked up the egg but hesitated. Removing his Adrenaline shot, he ran up to Tigger to press it to her vest. The vest came back on and he pulled her to her feet, telling Nate. "Come on. We do this as a team or not as all." Nate nodded, rushing up to take point as he told LadyKiller. "Get out your rifle and cover our ass! They'll be coming for us with everything they've got!" Jogging out a path that Nate chose in a split-second decision, they just missed the raptors bursting into the room. Tigger and LadyKiller's weapons always seemed to be shooting and reloading as they rushed down the different paths. They made it back to the graveyard, then skidded to a halt. Standing in the center of the graveyard was a large albino T-rex with blue LEDs.

Sean slowly sank to his knees behind a barrier with the others, mumbling out to Nate. "Why do I get the feeling that we stole 'ITS' egg." Nate flashed Sean a knowing grin, then told them all quickly. "Come on. We have to keep moving before the raptors go around to trap us in here with her." LadyKiller snorted, rising up just enough to lay her rocket launcher on the barrier and fired at the T-rex. The T-rex took the hit and staggered back as her LEDs flashed. Nate stared at her in horror, finishing off in a numb voice. "Cause the only thing that can kill her is a mortar..." LadyKiller blushed, mumbling out guiltily. "Oops..." Sean peeked over the wall, watching the T-rex's head turn to look deliberately in their direction. Sean swatted Nate anxiously, yelling out. "WE GOTTA MOVE!" The T-rex let out a roar and charged straight for them. Together they got up and rushed for a path. Sean glanced back, watching the T-rex skid into the wall before she charged for them with her mouth open. In her mouth was a large LED that was her way of taking out players!

The T-rex stormed after them so fast that they were barely able to stay ahead of her. LadyKiller's vest went off and she cursed. Pressing herself to the wall, she cheered them on. "KEEP GOING!" They zipped around a tight turn and Nate screamed as his vest connected with an awaiting Raptor. Tigger shot the raptor and it retreated. The other awaiting raptors quickly retreated as the T-rex thundered around the corner after Sean. Tigger reloaded her gun, screaming back. "We're not going to make it!" Sean gritted his teeth, before shouting out. "Behind the wall!" Tigger dashed behind a wall and Sean cut in short on the other side of it. The T-rex roared, skidding into the wall to follow him in. Waiting until she was in, he tossed the egg over the wall and yelled out. "TIGGER, TAKE IT AND RUN!" Tigger screamed on the other side off the wall, but he heard her getting away. Sean's vest went off as the T-Rex's mouth light struck him, but he had done it. The T-rex was large enough that she couldn't walk backward without issue. Leaving her to take the long way around.

Sean heard raptors in the distance and bounced hopefully. He couldn't hear Tigger screaming and hoped that was a good thing. Nate and LadyKiller strolled up to him, asking. "Where is the egg?" Sean pointed off into the distance, mumbling out. "Tigger has it somewhere now." LadyKiller hugged herself, stating out. "Poor Tigger..." Nate gestured them both to follow him, saying lightly. "Come on. We have to get back to the time machine to be revived. Maybe she'll see us and go the right way." As they continued to walk casually for the exit, LadyKiller told them. "I don't hear her, and the round hasn't ended... Do you think she got lost?" Nate approached the car, giving her a shrug as he said. "I don't know. I hope not..." Nate touched his earpiece trying to contact Tigger, but she didn't answer. LadyKiller got on her own earpiece to tell the scientist. "I need you to revive us." The woman on the other end answered lightly. "I'm afraid I can only revive 'Omega.' The rest of you were taken out by the mother and can't be revived."

Nate's vest revived, but he told them softly. "Should I go out there and try to find her? Maybe I can lure them away from the gate?" Sean held up a hand to steady him, saying calmly. "You should wait here. If she comes running in with heat. She might need you to cover her." Nate removed his gun and nodded. They waited by the car a moment, listening to the sounds of purring raptors and a roaring T-rex. Sean glanced at the clock. They still had plenty of time, but he was getting worried. A sudden scream broke out across the arena, followed by a raptor scream and LadyKiller began to bounce with Sean as they called out to her. "TIGGER! OVER HERE!" Nate moved out past the boundary with his gun at the ready to see if he could spot her. Tigger's screams grew louder as a few shotgun sounds went off. Before long she came around into view, screaming out. "Oh my god! AAAH!" Right on her ass, a raptor snapped at her and would have had her with its claws had another raptor not skidded into him, slamming him against the wall. Nate waited until Tigger dashed by him toward the car, before jogging into the safe zone. Tigger had been running so fast that she tripped over her feet to stumble across the ground with the egg.

Hugging the egg close, she panted out. "Leave me alone and I swear! I'll never eat eggs again!" They all laughed loudly, watching the raptors try to untangle themselves from each other before sulking away. LadyKiller coaxed Tigger to get up and place the egg in the trunk. She had earned the honor, but Tigger didn't appear to care. Climbing into the car, they asked her how she survived, and she hugged her gun close, mumbling out shakily. "I don't want to talk about it." Once the car was pulled back into the scientist's room, she had them sit in front of the TV to watch the highlights. The raptors took out the other team really quickly. Since two of their players quit almost immediately. Those that remained had been a great distraction for their team. However, it was Tigger's moment that everyone really enjoyed. After racing off, she got lost. Her earpiece falling off around her neck in her panic as she tried to hide almost in plain sight. Hidden among some vines that were draped like a wall, she stayed there until a raptor got too close.

The raptor hadn't seen her, but she panicked. Jumping out with a scream that startled raptor so badly that he toppled into two others. The last two raptors let out screams of excitement as they chased after her. She fired blindshots behind her that slowed one down, leaving the other to gain on her. Right up to the moment they had crashed into each other at the end. Tigger blushed a bright red and Nate chuckled out. "You had them tripping over each other to get you! You're a natural!" Tigger shook her head with embarrassment, but her happiest moment was when the woman passed out their special quest pins. To Be Continued...
