(159) Big Mouth, Big Heart

Another request from All_In_Due_Time, fluffy soulmate alt universe, in which whenever the person is around their soulmate, they say whatever is in there mind at the time! I had a real laugh writing this one and I figured you'd all need a pick-me-up from the last oneshot. Also, how about I start answering some questions here? (It would save me rambling)

Also pleaseee check out ChildOfDanti's art book, its amazing <3

Jack would consider himself a straight talker (the only thing straight about him, in fact); no cut corners when he speaks, honest and passionate as he does. And yet, he doesn't speak his mind; not fully, there's too many inappropriate or a million and ten things racing through his mind that he doesn't give people a glimpse of that because truthfully if he did, they'd never speak to him ever again. Jacks mind really is something, full of incomprehensible thoughts, badly timed jokes, yelling and all of his favorite songs playing at once. No wonder he struggles to process the information some teacher is feeding him. His best friend is always telling him too focus, pay attention or listen but its easier said than done. Jacks always itching to have something in his hands, itching to do something productive or creative.

Jack uses art and music to do that, the two classes he feels like he can actually focus in and the classes hes passing. Math and English don't mean much to him but being able to play those songs he has playing in his head on drums or to paint some small comprehensible thought does. Jacks accepted hes never going to be some straight A student with a degree in mathematics and every science subject he can name. But maybe he'll be known as the creative one that takes his drumsticks everywhere he goes with him and he thinks he can live with that. If Jack were described himself he'd say a people person and headstrong.

He arrives at lunch, taking his usual seat next to Felix as the school student stuffs a handful of Swedish fish into his mouth - to which he gets a grossed out look from the boy with the off centered beret on his head. Felix's looks more cheerful than usual and Jack raises an eyebrow. There are usually only two reasons Felix is smiling:

Because of a girl or because of food. Its not that hes a sad person or anything, the boy just doesn't smile (smiling doesn't look good on me) he uttered when Jack told him to smile one time, now hes stopped trying.

"There's this girl..." Felix goes off, saying at how whenever hes around her, he says whatever is in his mind at the time and had a rather embarrassing encounter with her. Felix hasn't had very good luck with the ladies in the past but he seems to not control his rambling this time and its cute. Jack may not be into girls, but hes into seeing his friends happy.

Jack never understood what Felix meant when he said he just couldn't control what was coming out of his mouth around the girl with pretty eyes and a sweet smile. Maybe Felix just got nervous around someone he finds attractive, god knows Jack feels that.

;

Jack curses to all gods he can think of when he has to sit through another physical education lesson, with all the jocks whose one shoulder could probably hospitalized Jack for a year. Jack can't be bothered with all their sports talk and about how many girls they get in a week, it makes Jack sick. Jack never really saw the point in sports as a whole, hes always been bad at it - he trips over his own feet, nevermind when it comes to scoring a goal and Jack somehow always ends up on the team that cares the most about kicking the ball around.

But this time around he gets paired up with the quote on quote lesser jocks; including a tall skinny blonde haired boy, some dude with an afro, a girl with long black hair and a raven haired boy Jack hasn't seen around before. The boy must see him starring and offers a smile; Jack turns away from him, suddenly shy.

The boy seems to be wherever Jack is, and he has a strong kick - hes always the one scoring them the goals.

Jack heads back to the locker rooms, ready to grab his clothing when he bumps into the sweaty raven haired boy and he just stands there, staring at him; doe-eyed looking like a deer in the headlights.

"Good game." Comes the deep rumble and Jack just utters, eyes roaming the raven haired boys figure;

"Wow, thighs."

And then hes running out of the locker room faster than he ever has in his life, forgetting about the clothes he needs for his next class, not caring hes in his gym shorts and sweating. What the fuck was that.

He didn't even say 'you too' just, 'wow thighs.' Jesus Christ, he really blew it. (Given, the nameless boys thighs were nice; that of an athletes and could probably smash a watermelon or Jacks head between them) but that isn't the point and Jack hasn't been more embarrassed in his entire life; red-faced but not from the ruthless round of sports. Felix when he hears about this will never let Jack live this down, maybe he can avoid the raven haired boy for the rest of his days.

;

But after that, the boy seems to always get put on his team or be somewhere around him in the lunch hall and Jack has to bite his tongue, like his brain is forcing him to say whatever is in his head and its obnoxious to him, he doesn't want to scare the boy off - for whatever reason, Jack is drawn to him.

But of course he couldn't keep his god damn mouth shut for long. They're sat on the benches together, sweating and given a time out for being to competitive (that's a first for Jack.)

One of the popular girls, who clearly isn't here for the sport - is complaining about her nails and Jack rolls his eyes, watching her prance about or check out one of the jocks and Jack can't help the comment slipping from his mouth.

"Don't act like you don't play with balls all the time." He utters and suddenly the boy next to him is spitting his water out, laughing like Jack told the funniest joke in the world and hes trying not to blush, or do a runner like last time.

"You're cute." The boy utters, patting him on the shoulder before running back to his fellow teammate and hes glad hes out of earshot because Jack sighs out a;

"Please just crush me with your thighs." God, he really can't keep his mouth shut, can he? Luckily it was after the nameless raven head was out of sight.

;

The pair only seem to get talking in P.E on the benches or when they fight over the ball and almost tangling each other up, like over excited dogs.

This particular time, Jack finally gets the boys name.

"Im mark but you can call me later." The boy utters the sentence, then immediate regret sprawls across his features and Jack laughs so hard he gets both of them thrown out the class and a ticket to detention.

'interrupting the lesson' - It was Marks fault and Jack tells him so as they walk the halls, looking as guilty as they are.

They sit together, clock ticking the only noise in the room as the write and exchange equally terrible jokes and eventually just start throwing paper airplanes at one another, Marks lands on Jacks lap with numbers on it - his number and Jack just laughs, unfolding it and putting it in his pocket.

"Thanks Later." Jack chuckles, surprised he managed to get the athletic boys number after the first thing he said to him and the numerous other things hes opened his mouth and said by accident. He now knows what Felix felt around the girl with pretty eyes and an accent you could listen to all day.

;

"Ask him out." Felix utters around a mouthful of chips. Jack shakes his head, because he can't just do that - the boy might just be friendly. Felix is trying to convince him as Mark steps into the lunch hall and of course he passes by his table and Felix sees Jack shut up almost immediately and Jack wants to scream at Felix because he sees that awful smug look graze his features and then hes tapping Mark on the shoulder and that is it.

"Hi, Mark. I was just telling Felix about how I was going to ask you out-" Jacks eyes go wide and Felix chokes across the table, not even trying to bail him out of this not that he probably could.

"He meant wasn't, stupid auto correct, right Jack?" Felix suddenly yells as if his brain just kicked into action. Mark nearly drops his lunch from laughing.

"This is a real life conversation." Mark utters and Jack hits his head against the lunch table, hiding his face as Mark shakes his head, smiling as he walks away and Jacks never wanted to melt into the floor and float down a drain more in his life.

"Really, fucking auto-correct?" Jack scolds as he buries his head in his hands Felix as he shrugs, stuffing half a sandwich into his mouth.

Jack thinks him and Felix are soulmates in the form of friends because surely nobody else is as awkward together as they are. Jack definitely is going to avoid Mark after this, not that the raven haired boy will speak to him after that exchange - he thinks.

And yet Mark still messages him, later on in the day as Jack isn't paying attention, going from one class to another and nearly falls face first into a locker when he sees the message.

"If you were really going to ask me out, it'd be a yes. Free at the weekend?" The planets must have aligned for Jack today, because even though hes embarrassed himself in front of the boy who is more than out of his league, he still asks him out on a date. Jacks never typed yes so fast, Jacks just praying he doesn't make more of a fool himself as he already has.

;

The weekend swings around a lot faster than Jack would like to admit; hes still been trying to process he talked or didn't, his way into a date with Mark. Felix screamed down the phone as soon as he told him and then yelled something about soulmates immediately after. Jack told him it was nonsense, but Felix didn't take him seriously because he could hear Jacks smile through the damn phone - but at least the Swede helped Jack pick his outfit.

Jack arrives on time, Mark already waiting and looking as nervous as he feels. Hes in a darker tank top and some cute jeans ripped at the knees; a true jock inside and out, Jack thinks. He isn't at all dressed for sports - System of a down tee and jeans clad and all.

"I would just like to issue an apology first, for whatever comes out my mouth during this date." Jack laughs - only half joking.

"I second that." Mark murmurs, grabbing Jacks hand and dragging him off to whatever hes got planned.

Mark nearly had Jack when he told them they'd be doing sports but it turns out they're doing quite the opposite; going around different restaurants trying foods.

"I didn't know what type of food you liked so I figured we could try a bit of everything." Jack smiles bright and wide; apprecating the soft sentiment behind it and then he opens his mouth and its all over.

"Are you on the menu too?" Jack slaps a hand against his mouth, turning away as he meets silence, thinking hes gone too far and is ready to turn around and run when Mark starts laughing.

"Depends if you play your cards right." Jack isn't sure how Mark keeps his cool or always seems to respond to Jacks god awful lines - but its nice he isn't put off by it and rather likes to laugh at his misfortune (Jack wouldn't have it any other way but dear god he wishes he didn't say such dumb things but he really can't help himself around Mark)

;

The evening is spent trying strange foods the pair struggle to pronounce properly - and laughing a whole lot. Jacks nerves put at ease long ago and Mark feeling more like himself around Jack than anyone else. The conversation flow smoothly between them nothing forced and equally shared shitty pick up lines.

Surprisingly enough, Jack feels so much better the fact he can just run his mouth and get the sweet reward of Marks rumbling laughter in return rather than a strange look or two, or just not giving him the time of day. He never normally lets loose like this and can always keep his mouth in check incase he offends someone by accident. But with Mark he follows Jacks banter and stupid jokes - it makes him happy. Hes only like this with Felix and even that took years to achieve. Around Mark hes releasing that hes hid behind a shy exterior due to all the surpression hes faced;

"You can't say that!"

"That's not funny."

"How rude."

Jacks released he can say certain things and knows limits but he also knows his humor isn't for everyone.

They're walking from the obscure Chinese restaurant as the sun sets behind them; hands intertwined and Jack feels happy; his stomach full as well as his heart. Mark makes him feel a certain good kind of way - a way he isn't sure he can put into words.

"I can't believe I somehow talked my way here." Jack utters, more so to himself rather than directly at the raven haired boy beside him.

"Well, it isn't often people can make me laugh. Normally girls always try so hard but with you its almost effortless." Mark smiles turning to Jack.

"I'd like to do this again." The sunset cascades over the man like he made it set in the first place, orange hues dawning over him and Jack is swooning.

"Me too." Jack can't hide his wide smile as much as he tries and then Mark is in his space, murmuring something about being on the menu and then his lips are against Jacks- supple and fitting. Jack feels like hes about to explode, wondering how hes kissing the guy who is so out of his league and yet still laughs at his jokes, still chose to kiss him.

"I'd also like to do that again." Mark utters, eyes closed and its Jacks turn to laugh and give him a shove, what a pair they make.

;

Felix is sat across from Jack, smug as ever as he gives him a kick underneath the table - sat next to the Italian girl he never did stop talking about, her hair dyed pink now which matches her eyeshadow. Jack is, of course seated next to Mark.

"I told you about soulmates." Felix speaks, lifting his glass of wine like the smug bastard he is and Jack rolls his eyes but he can't argue as much as he wants too. Mark then interupts the pair's mini fued, speaking up.

"So, did I ever tell you what the first thing Jack said to me, was?" Jacks already groaning before he gets the sentence out - knowing hes in for a night of embarrasment, hes been avoiding telling Felix that story for years; still unable to believe he actually did that. Although somewhat grateful he made an impression that sticks even after all those years, he supposes it isn't often you meet a stranger in a changing room, who is shaken by your thighs and then gets embarrassed and runs away.

Jack never could keep his mouth shut, though - even after all this time.
