Jack felt giddy, the snow crumpling beneath his boots as he waded through hogsmeade the magic from being here was yet to wear off and it'd be 6 months since he started working at the bookstore his Slytherin scarf dangling from his shoulders, the green through it almost match his hair. He was sure thats why he had gotten the job at the bookstore convincing them that thats why he'd dyed his hair and totally not because he was overly Irish but hey, it worked. The winters at Universal studies weren't too cold and it was rare for snow to fall here but Jack loved it and that is why he hadn't been watching where he was going when he bumped into a red headed man with a Gryfindor scarf hanging from his neck.
"Sorry!" Jack apologized quickly, meeting the mans melted chocolate eyes behind circular glasses. "Its okay, I should've watched where I was going, I'm late to work so I was rushing." The man blushed, guilty and smiling. Jack couldn't help but smile back standing there for a few seconds before awkwardly moving out of the mans way. He hadn't seen him before, curious as to where he worked but brushed it off and went on his way through the dusting of snow.
;
The bookstore was fairly quiet like most days of the week and Jack didn't mind it was pretty nice due to the busy weekend he was reaching up to rearrange some books when the door bell clicked. Glancing over he noticed a familiar sight of red hair. Moving away from the books he stepped behind the counter.
"Welcome!" Jack smiled, hoping the man didn't remember their awkward encounter yesterday but by the smirk on his face he did. "I left my scarf here yesterday." "You work here?" That surprised Jack, he didn't look like the type to work in a quiet bookstore but then again Jack was not sure he looked like the type to work in a bookstore.
Mark was counting his lucky stars, the cute boy he had ran into yesterday worked where he did! Although they must have very different shifts, hencing why they hadnt seen each other before which is a shame because he'd love to get to know the green haired, blue eyed cutie better maybe he'd "accidentally" leave his scarf here again so he could talk to him. The man, whom from his name tag was Jack; returned his scarf to him.
"Thank you, Jack." Mark smiled watching the mans face turn from confusion presumably from wondering how he knew his name to a calm smile, it made Mark chuckle.
"I'm Mark, see ya around cutie." Before Mark had anytime to embarrass himself further, he turned around out the door as fast as he came in. Jack was thankful because then he wouldn't see the pink dusting over his cheeks.
;
But that was the last he saw of Mark when he was on his shift, infact he was a regular from someone who worked here. Always forgetting something in seemed and the first time he uttered one of his god awful pick up lines Jack had nearly missed it. "Hey Jack?" The man asked in his deep rumble from across the counter and it nearly made him jump. The grin on the red headed mans face made him raise an eyebrow and pause looking for Marks name tag, lord knows why he didnt just help Jack look for it but he seemed occupied looking for a book. Jack gave a soft "hmm." before Mark looked at him dead in the eye, almost serious.
"I know we're not in Professor Flitwick's class, but you still are charming." The cheesy line was totally worth it due to the laughter he heard from the other man and the blush upon his features. "Here's your name tag." Jack managed to say after catching his breath and handed the other man it as he checked out a book and then turned on his heels, so unashamed of his terrible pick up line.
It wasn't just that one time though, in fact everytime Mark saw Jack on his shift, he'd hit him with some terrible pick up line and even though the green haired man wouldnt admit it, it brightend his sometimes boring shifts or eased his mood. Todays line was;
"My name may not be Luna, but I sure know how to Lovegood!" Jack face palmed, flustered.
"Where do you get these?!" Mark just winked and laughed whole heartedly.
;
Today was different, no pick up lines, no "I have forgotten this item but really i'm just staring at your butt whilst you look for it," just Mark standing at the counter, waiting for the green haired man to come by and listen to his accent as he spoke but he was nervous, too. The Irish man seemed to pick up on it when he appeared behind the counter.
"What can I do for ya?" Mark had been preparing some speech to ask him on a date but all of that flew from his mind and instead he was just greeted with blank in his brain and could not get words out. So he just stood there watching the Irish man look at him. Then his brain started functioning again and he stuttered out, jumbled words and all.
"Wouldyougoonadatewithme" The green haired man raised an eyebrow and laughed.
"You're lucky I grew up in Ireland where people speak quickly otherwise I woud've missed that. But uh, yeah." Jack smiled, itching the back of his neck; a shy thing and Mark nearly swooned on the spot.
"Ill pick you up on Sunday at 6 then!" Mark boomed, smiling goofily and then walked out the shop with a spring in his step.
;
Jack had been pacing up and down in his apartment for twenty mintues now, wondering what to wear his date with Mark was in one hour and he was going insane. He had changed atleast ten times now and finally settled on casual wear which he hadnt worn in forever and only looked in the mirror once because if he looked again he'd probably want to change again. Now he headed to his work where Mark would pick him up, his leg bouncing against the snow cleared path. He hadnt been on a date since he moved out here which was roughly two years ago.
Mark arrived, not a second late and he looked dapper. Black jeans hung on his legs a beautiful contrast with his red hair and his shirt was almost hypnotisitng, with its star print. Jack felt shy and unattractive next to Mark, he was cute in his work clothes but there was something charming.
"You look great." Mark said, pulling Jack out of his trance. Looking at his feet he mumbled a thank you as they began to walk to wherever they were heading.
It turns out they were heading to the near by theme park, which Jack hadnt had the chance to visit. They rode on the carousal, Jack giggling at how they were the only two grown men on it, it didnt help that Mark kept looking over his shoulder at him and making silly faces. Then they hit the roller coasters, sharing a cart and after some loops Jack was particularly howling and even though it was loud in Marks ears it filled with joy.
;
Something green caught his eye at one of the rigged games, stall and Jack just knew he had to have it. It was an eyeball he realized upon further investigation. "Mark, look at how cute that thing is!" The Irishman said, pulling the red headed man by the arm. "Its an eyeball, a green one at that." Mark chuckled.
They both set out to win it, a little competition between the two and Jack was falling miserably at throwing a ball at the milk jugs pilled up on top of each other. He knew these things were rigged but damn, he needed that green eyeball in his damn life and also needed to beat Mark, because he was so smug after he knocked two of the five milk jugs over. Jack was on his last ball and he threw it with such force in nearly bounced back and hit him in the face. The red headed man beside him couldn't contain his laughter and nearly lost the shot, but managed to knock over the remaining milk jugs and won.
Then, he was given the little green eyeball and Jack was huffing, arms crossed but the smile on his face giving him away. "Here." Mark said, extending his arm. "You nearly lost your eye from that throw so I think you deserve it." Jack chuckled, taking the eyeball and hugging it mumbling a thanks.
Heading out of the theme park, Eyeball (Now given the name Sam), in one hand and Marks hand in the other, the red headed man turned to him.
"I would like to do this again, if you don't mind." He had no shame in flirting with Jack in the bookstore but he was shy about asking him out, what a doofus.
Jack, just gave him a little kiss on the cheek and nodded. Mark pulled him closer, ignoring his shyness and kissed him timidly on the lips watching the man turn a rose color and laughing as he pulled away.
"Yes, Mark I'll go on a date with you again." Jack smiled, the shy one now.
"Good because my love for you burns like a dying phoenix." Mark answered back and he had refrained from all those pick up lines until now and Jack just put his hands over his face and groaned.
Although Jack totally under no circumstances would admit it, the pick up lines really did work or maybe it was just the way Mark said them.
