twenty-three; plastic

this is my favorite drabble so far, so please enjoy :)

"Baby, you gotta stop throwing stuff," Mitch huffed out before sitting back down on the park bench.

He had seen babies throwing toys all the time in various places, but he always hoped that his own kid would be better than that. But now, he was being proved wrong. If he hadn't been so annoyed, he probably would've been proud of how far the plastic toy went this time around.

Mitch glanced back down at the toy then carefully wiped it back and forth across his jeans before hesitantly handing the toy back to the toddler. He had no clue what the protocol was on situations like this, but Mitch was pretty sure it hurt him. Pretty sure.

After the toy was back in the happy toddler's hands, Mitch's eyes finally left him and surveyed the park once again. Mitch couldn't remember the last time the two were able to spare a couple of minutes to come here. They used to frequent the parks much more often until the world reared its horns and brought some havoc into their lives.

But now that they had a chance to get out, it felt absolutely amazing. Mitch was gonna have to make a note to do this more often.

A small cry brought Mitch's attention back to the present. He glanced back down at his son... and of course the toy was out of his hands again.

Mitch sighed, then looked for the toy out in front of him. His breath hitched though as he saw it just an inch or two away from a pair of shoes. He let his eyes trail up the body, and once again nearly lost his breath as he saw the man's face, fit with perfect blue eyes and blonde hair.

"Sorry 'bout that," Mitch finally said as the blonde bent down to grab the plastic toy.

"Its no problem," he said, meeting Mitch's eyes for a brief moment before looking back down at the toddler. "Here you go buddy," he continued on in a much softer voice than before. He crouched down in front of the two before handed the toy back to the boy who immediately clutched the toy to his chest.

Mitch considered keeping the blonde man around if it meant no more throwing of it.

"What's your name, Cutie?" Mitch's head jolted up, but the man's eyes were still on his kid.

"This is Gabe."

"Hi, Gabe. Aren't you adorable?" The toddler buried his face into Mitch's shirt which caused the blonde to smile. "And what's your Daddy's name?" Mitch heard a faint "da" come from Gabe's mouth, but he felt brave enough to answer for himself.

"I'm Mitch." The blonde looked up and gave him a small smile. Apparently Gabe still wanted some attention though, because was reaching the toy out to the man. "Normally this one is much more shy when it comes to strangers."

"Well I'm more than happy to be an exception." His eyes flitted down to Gabe before back up to Mitch. "Hey, I--"

"Scott!"

The blonde quickly turned his head towards another part of the park. Mitch looked in that direction as well, but when he looked back to the man, he was already standing up.

"That's my cue to go." He took a step away from the duo before spinning back around "I, um, it was nice to meet you two. I'll see you around?"

Mitch opened his mouth to answer, but the man was already walking away from the two. He really did want to see the blonde again though, so he let a small "yeah" slip out anyway.
