4: Can't Stand The Crowd
I wasted no time before walking away. I couldn't stay. I just couldn't handle it yet, so I kept walking, and I almost made it to the car when I heard someone yell. "Wait. Please just wait."
I froze in place allowing her to catch up. Not like I could leave the place yet anyway. As soon as she made it over to me, she didn't waste any time. "I'm sorry." She said with shortness of breath.
"I am too," I looked into her eyes then to the floor.
"You didn't do anything. It was my fault. And I have to say that I'm sorry. You may have found someone or moved on completely, but I have to apologize for my sanity. I couldn't have just overlooked it and not said anything. I'm sorry. I'll go ahead and leave now." She turned around walking away.
I watched her walk away. Not sure what to do. I didn't allow myself to think, "Wait." she turned to face me. "Stay. I can't stand the crowd."
She flashed a smile. "Still hate crowds, I see?" She walked towards me.
I laughed. "Honestly, I don't think that's ever going to change."
"Probably not." She said. "But who said it's a bad thing?"
"Fair. If you want to go back in, I won't stop you." I said immediately questioning why I even said anything about her staying.
"I don't have a preference. If you'd like me to stay, I could use the fresh air anyway. It gets crazy in buildings."
She pushed herself up to sit on the hood of the car.
I followed her lead. "You look amazing tonight." I felt myself whisper. Then I realized what I said. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that."
"Thanks. You look great yourself." She said.
Her dark hair was pulled up, with a few curls hanging in her face. She had light eye makeup and a black dress on.
"Thanks," I said.
"How have you been?" She asked.
Thousands of words came to mind. "Good," I said. "You?"
"Been better. But good." She said. It got quiet. I looked at my hands.
Suddenly someone popped from behind the car in front of us. "Come on and ask her on a date already."
"Emily, go crawl in a hole!" Tatiana yelled.
"I'm trying to help, and you tell me to crawl in a hole!" The other girl yells back.
"Shut up and find a hole!" The other girl disappeared. "I'm sorry. That was a friend. She's the one who dragged me to this wedding. She was a bridesmaid."
"Funny. I was dragged here by my brother. He was the best man."
"What a coincidence."
"Yeah." I wanted to ask her. What if she said she found someone? I took a deep breath. This was worse than the first time. "Are you free tomorrow?"
She looked up at me. "Yes."
"Would you be interested in going somewhere with me? If you found someone else, I understand. I'm sorry." I said quickly.
She gave me a confused look. "I would love to go with you. I don't have anyone. There's nothing to be sorry for."
"Do you still have the same number?" I asked. She nodded. "I do too. So at least we should be able to contact each other."
We continued talking until my brother decided to show up, and Tatiana being herself decided it would be funny if she hid, and he didn't see her. I pretended I haven't seen her since his little game. He looked disappointed but claimed he was 'just trying to get me over Tatiana.'
I was certain he knew it was her, but I wasn't going to tell him that. He didn't need to know. I got in the driver's seat since he shouldn't be driving and drove us to my house.
