14: Chameleon in a bowl of M&Ms
We all sat around the table until my parents decided they were ready to leave. Dylan and I told them we'd catch up in a moment. They nodded and told us they'd wait outside.
"Maybe we can catch up and start over when I get back?" I offered, remembering what she said about leaving in the morning.
"Actually, I think I might tell them to find somebody else." she answered.
Emily placed her hand on Tatiana's shoulder, "You'd better."
"Well, if you don't, I'll see you around," I said, then I looked out the window. I turned to Dylan. "We'd better get going."
"Yeah, we don't want them to leave us," he replied. "Adieu."
And the two of us left, "You two ready?" mom asked.
I nodded, while Dylan verbally responded.
As soon as we got back, mom and dad couldn't keep their eyes open, so they decided to go to bed. Dylan and I were exhausted as well, due to the time change. So after he said somet We both went into our old bedrooms. I unpacked sometime in between getting here, and going out, so everything was easy to grab. I got into some comfortable clothes and crawled in the bed.
My eyes refused to listen to my tired soul. Yawning, I rolled over and tried to sleep, but my mind was full. Trying to block out the incessant thoughts and noise, I turned over again. Although I knew it wouldn't work, it seemed like a decent plan. Hoping that if I got comfortable I wouldn't have to fight it.

I woke up much later than I would've liked being the early riser I am. I decided not to let that small thing get in my way of seizing the day. Getting up, and rushing around the room, I made a mental checklist of the things I'd like to get done.
Once I was ready for another day, I walked out of the bedroom to find my mom sitting on the sofa with a cup in her hand. Most likely coffee, since you could see the heat streaming out of the cup, and she doesn't like tea.
"Good morning," she said.
"Morning," I replied.
"Any plans for today?" she asked.
"Dylan said something about walking around the city." I walked into the kitchen and poured a cup of coffee, then found an empty place to sit.
We talked for a while, and sipped our coffees. Dylan came into the room rubbing his eyes.
"Get enough sleep?" I joked.
"Not even close," he replied, glaring at me.
Shrugging, I stifled a small laugh. He continued to glare at me. "Need some coffee or sleeping pills,"
After those words, his face lost all tiredness. He had a bad idea. "What if I put a sleeping pill in my coffee and see which one has better effect."
"Your coffee would taste gross." I paused, rubbing my forehead. "And they wouldn't cancel each other out. Unless you have high tolerance."
"Okay, I'll get some coffee then," he dragged his feet to the kitchen.
After his coffee, and some more talking, he got up. "Still in to walk around?"
"Don't see why not," I replied, getting up to put my cup in the sink.
"Just give me a minute to get ready, and then we can go." He walked back into the room and I took the opportunity to sit back down.
After a while he came back out. "Let me guess you're still not ready?"
"Ha, I am, so 1 for Dylan," he responded then fist bumped his other fist.
"Only one?" I asked, narrowing my eyebrows.
"Well yeah cause usually you get the point,"
"Alright, so are we ready to go then?"
"Yeah," was all he said and then we walked out the door.
We got to the city after a while, we had nothing to do and nowhere to be. It was simply just a way to relax. It wasn't my ideal of relaxation, that would be on a beach, but this wasn't bad.
"Any ideas on where to go?" Dylan asked. "Specifically."
"Uh no... Do you have something planned?" I raised an eyebrow.
"I don't. Honestly I did nothing," he held his hands in front of him in mock surrender.
"Okay," I replied. "I guess I believe you."
"I mean if you want me to set something up I can do it just give me a second. Didn't think I'd have to though. You and Tatiana should be able to do it yourselves now. But if you need some expert advice I'm sure Emily and I can whip up something good."
"Okay where did you get all that from?"
"The look on your face. The 'damn I wish I was with Tatiana instead of my brother or at least if she was here I could ignore him' look."
"That was oddly specific for something," I said. I pulled at my hair and looked at the window of the shop we were stopped in front of.
"Didn't deny it." Dylan moved in front of the window.
I shrugged. "So I don't feel like wasting breath arguing. Since you think you're right anyway."
There was a light tap on my shoulder at that moment. I half expected it to be someone asking for directions, I turned around. Tatiana.
"Oh Tatiana," I said before looking at Dylan assuming he did something. Not that I'm unhappy about it. "I take it you cancelled out."
"Yeah, I told them the soonest flight was for Friday." she replied.
"I'm...I'm glad you're here." All was quiet in that moment despite the heavy crowds and Dylan facepalming.
"And I'm glad to see you here. I mean in the city. You know while I'm here. Uh. You know."
"I get it. So maybe we can all walk around?" I asked.
"Sure, Emily is still in that store." Tatiana replied, making a quick gesture to the shop across the street.
"Okay, them we can wait for her."
"Oh good then I have someone to talk to while you two can make the world cringe at the awkwardness." Dylan cut in
"Says the creator of said awkwardness." I replied.
"Okay fine. Whatever I'm glad its this instead of the moping." He said before dramatically acting out a scene.
"Shakespeare is either in awe or cringing." I said looking at him.
Tatiana laughed while Dylan shrugged. "You weren't gifted with third person point of view, Cody. It's almost accurate."
Emily came out of the shop at that moment and rushed over to us. She was empty-handed which wasn't surprising. It was overpriced in that select place.
"Want to keep me company since these two are growing up and making plans for themselves." Dylan asked Emily.
"Awe. My babies growing up." She said wiping an imaginary tear. She was almost as dramatic as Dylan. "But sure. Someone has to make sure they stay in line."
I wasn't going to play into that and Tatiana didn't reply, she grabbed my hand and led me away.
Dylan and Emily followed us but I was in my own little world trying to figure out what to say.
"Favorite movie?" Tatiana said breaking the silence.
" 'Roman Holiday' or 'Sunset Boulevard,' " I replied. "I know both are old but I can't help but like them."
"Those are good ones. You make mine seem childish though. 'How to Train your Dragon.' I went through a huge dragon phase as a kid so when I heard they made movies I had to watch them and it unlocked that childhood happiness."
"I haven't seen those yet. I've been wanting to though." I replied. "Favorite candy?"
There was no hesitation before she answered. "M&M's."
"Same." I replied.
"Favorite Disney movie?"
"Specific. Uh probably Lilo and Stitch. I like the family theme."
"I love that one, for me it's between Aladdin and Tangled."
Dylan began mumbling. I turned to face him. "What'd you say?"
"Nothing."
I turned back around. "Rain or Snow?"
"Rain."
"Same for me."
"I have one." Dylan butted in.
"Fire away." Tatiana said, twirling her hair on the tip of her finger.
"Why'd you two decide to give each other another chance?" He paused. "Better than that. Why break up in the first place?"
She didn't answer. I didn't answer. Dylan then turned to Emily. "I think if you dropped a chameleon into a bowl of red M&Ms it still wouldn't be as red as those two are."
She laughed and he joined. Tatiana and I took it as a sign to disappear. We could catch up later.
I wanted to have this done on the 2nd of February for the 3 year anniversary of this book, but I had a huge lack of motivation keeping me from writing.
Also I have done little to no research on the landscapes in France (I'm terrible I know I'm going to fix all inconsistencies and do all the proper research when I'm done with this draft)
Oh and I'm gonna attempt an update schedule to every weekend. So hopefully I'll stick to it since it gives 3 days to choose from.
