Chapter 5
Tryouts for soccer are finally over. I managed to make the team and become starting center. Tori also made the team and she's starting left wing. Turns out Coach Shelly really likes Tori and doesn't mind at all that she missed the first day of tryouts. Jason told me that he made the starting offensive line along with Gavin and Seth. While Ralf made the starting defensive line. All in all, things worked out smoothly.
After tryouts Rosie made me go shopping with her... Let me tell you, that girl sure knows how to spend her daddy's cash. She better marry someone rich when she gets older or she is screwed.
Today is the first day of school and I couldn't be less excited. Although we don't really have any beaches or good tanning spots around here, we have the waterfall. I love going there on hot summer days. Now that schools here I have to let go of my fun days of swimming at the waterfall. It's so sad.
"Evelyn Brewer open up your door right this moment!" Rosie yells at me. I frown. Oh god. Rosie is an absolute monster in the morning.
I open the door and she comes storming into my room. Her blonde hair is done perfectly and her makeup looks beautiful. She even made her uniform look perfect by making sure there are no wrinkles. What is she so pissy about then?
"My hair is a mess. Can you believe it?" I look at her confused. Then she points to a little curl that is slightly less curly than the others. "This little guy just won't stay! I've sprayed him so many times and yet he is still not curly." She huffs and plops onto my messy bed. "What do I do?" she asks me.
"Rosie, personally I think your hair looks beautiful. I didn't even notice that curl until you pointed it out. No one will notice it, and if they do it only means that your hair has some character to it." I say with a shrug. That's damn right I'm making her feel awesome. She is a monster in the morning so if I compliment her enough she will be happy and there will be no problems throughout the day.
She smiles brightly and touches her little curl, "You think so?" I nod. "You know I guess he is kind of cute." she says referring to her curl. I laugh.
"He's adorable, now I need to change give me a minute." I say as I grab my uniform and head into my bathroom.
I quickly strip out of my clothes and put on my uniform. Once I finish that I put on a light coat of mascara and leave my straightened hair down. Okay, that's good enough.
I walk out to my room. "Ready to go Rosie?" She nods and walks with me down to the kitchen.
There are people everywhere and I decide to just grab a pop tart out of the cabinet. I don't want to cook anything because there are way to many people in this kitchen right now.
"Hey Ev." I look up and see Ralf.
"Oh hey." I peer around him and see that no one is behind him. Then look back at him. "Where you're new play toy."
He laughs. "Tanya isn't my play toy. I actually like her Ev." I frown at him.
"But she isn't your mate is she." he looks away from me.
"No she's not, but there isn't even a guarantee that you will find your mate in this world, and I actually like Tanya." I roll my eyes.
"Well she's well known for getting around so don't get your heart broken." I say to him. His eyes shoot up and look at something behind me then he looks back into my eyes.
"Same goes for you." he says and walks away. I frown, what the hell is that supposed to mean?
"Hey Ev." I hear Jason say from behind me. I turn around and smile at him.
"Hey Jay. You excited for your first day of senior year?"
"No way in hell. I wish the summer was longer, I want more days to do nothing and hangout in the sun."
"Same. I can't believe it's over already. Time flies huh?"
"Yup." he says and reaches up above me trapping me between him and the counter behind me. He grabs something from the cabinet above my head and slowly goes back to his normal position. He smirks at me and says, "See you at school Ev."
"See yah." I say. Hmm, that's weird. I mean I know we usually get close to each other but something about that felt different... I don't know if I liked it or not.
I shrug it off and meet Rosie at her car while I chow down on my pop tart. "Finally slow poke, José has been running for a good five minutes now! Let's go!" She shouts.
I join her in the car and apologize for taking so long. Then just like that, we are on our way back to school.

After going through all the chaos of finding a parking spot, grabbing my schedule, and finding my friends so that I can talk to them before first period, I have finally gotten the chance to relax.
I met up with Rosie, Jill, Lauren and Payton. Turns out I only have third block with Rosie and no classes with my other friends. Damn, it sucks to not have any classes with them. First block I have Anatomy, second block I have English Honors, Third block I have History Honors and fourth block I have Pastry Arts. It's not a hard schedule, I'm just sad I don't have any of my friends in my classes besides in history.
The bell rang and we say our goodbyes. I make my way through the crowded hallway and find my first block class, anatomy.
I walk in. I'm the first one in class so I walk to the back of the room and place my things onto the floor next to the desk I chose. As time passes people begin to file into the room. I still don't see anyone I know... Well this is going to be a sucky first semester. I take out my notebook and start to doodle.
"Oh thank god." I hear someone say from the front of the room. I look up and see Tori waving at me. I smile and wave back. She makes her way to the back of the room and sits next to me. "I'm so glad you are in my class, I thought I was going to be all alone on my first day here." She says worriedly.
"Same, all my friends are taking electives that I didn't select so we don't have any of the same classes together..."
"Aww, that stinks. I hated when that happened to me in my old school." She says. Suddenly everyone in the room starts to quiet down. I look up expecting to see the teacher, but instead I see both Gavin and Seth. You know I don't even know which one is which yet... I have only seen them together and no one has specified who is who...
"Guys over here!" Tori says and waves them back here. All the girls in the class turn and glare at Tori. She either doesn't notice it or she's trying to piss them off more because when the guys come over she pushes them into the two seats in front of us. The one with the dark brown hair sits in front of me and the one with light brown hair sits in front of Tori. "Why didn't you guys tell me you had anatomy first block?" She says angrily.
The one in front of me rolls his eyes and says, "Because we didn't see you after we got our schedules remember?"
"Oh yeah that's right. I forgot you guys ditched me for your stupid football boys." She huffs.
"So Ev, Tori here tells me you made the soccer team, congrats." The one with light brown hair says to me.
I smile, "Thanks, my friend Jason told me you guys made the football team so congrats on that." I say to both of them.
"Is Jason the cute one that took you home on the second day of tryouts?" Tori asks me and I laugh.
"Yeah, all he can talk about is football and apparently your team is looking great this year so hopefully you will win a bunch of games." I say.
"Oh don't worry, we are planning on winning all of them." The one with light brown hair says.
Just then the teacher walks in and tells us to settle down. After taking attendance he get out the books and we start our first class.
****
I'm on my way to lunch with Rosie after having third block together. I realized that I forgot to pack a lunch so both Rosie and I have to buy the gross lunches from the school.
I decide to stick with the basics and just get a chicken wrap. It honestly doesn't look that bad so hopefully it will taste fine. Rosie got a slice of pizza and some fries. We start to walk around the lunch room when I see Jason, I'm about to go sit with him, but I realize he is hanging out with his football friends, including both Seth and Gavin. God are they always together? What's up with that?
"Over here Ev." I hear Rosie say. I'm about to turn when I see both the new boys look up at me. I blush because I realize they just caught me looking at them and I quickly follow Rosie.
We reach a table that has Lauren, Payton, Fiona, her other dumb bimbo friend, and a few other cheerleaders. See our friend Lauren is a cheerleader too, so we get along with them for the most part... unfortunately.
We sit down and Lauren welcomes us openly, "Hey girls! How have your classes been?" I shrug and Rosie sighs.
"Terrible. I want this year to be over already." The other girls laugh at this.
"So guys," Fiona says and urges us to listen to what she has to say, "I found out that neither of the two new guys who play football have girlfriends, that means it's first come first serve. I call the quarterback." She says happily. I frown. For some reason this upsets me.
"You say you want the quarterback but do you even know either of their names?" I say. Rosie shoots me a questioning look because I rarely talk out when around the cheerleaders.
Fiona looks at me and shrugs. "Well I mean I don't yet, but obviously I will soon. I can't date someone if I don't know their name." She says and rolls her eyes like I'm stupid. God I just want to punch her in the face.
Her bimbo friend laughs. "Good point, and since you get the quarterback I will get the other one, naturally." Her blonde friend says.
"Of course Gretchen." Fiona says.
"You guys realize you can't call dibs on boys. They all have minds of their own. What if they don't want to date you." I say with a shrug.
Fiona glares at me. "Why wouldn't they want to date us? We are pretty and we know how to please guys, unlike you miss prissy pants. If you think you can get one of them before us then go ahead and try, but I'm telling you right now. They are going to want us and not you." I roll my eyes.
"No guy worth dating is going to want to date a skank like you. So if they did choose you over me, I wouldn't want them anyway because their morals would be too low." I say. I hear a gasp and the next thing I know I'm drenched in chocolate milk. I stand up and glare at Fiona.
"That's for calling me a skank, bitch." She says. I'm about to punch her in the face when I notice that everyone in the cafeteria is looking at me. I take a few deep breathes and calm myself.
Security comes over and takes both Fiona and I to the main office. They seat us in one of the head master's rooms and leave. I look down at my hands as Mr. Toro, one of the head masters, begins to scold us.
"Ladies, it is not appropriate behavior to start fights in our school. We expect so much better of you. Fiona, you poured chocolate milk all over your classmate. You are one of the captain on the cheerleading squad. How do you think Coach Hilda would take it of she was told one of her top stars is now a delinquent?" He asks her.
"Mr. Toro, in all do respect. I was only standing up for my friend and I. Evelyn called us skanks." I look up and see Mr. Toro staring at me sternly. Great... why did I have to act up. I honestly never do that, it's just she was making me so mad.
"Ms. Brewer. That is not appropriate language to use in school. It's especially not appropriate to use against your classmates." Fiona smirks at me. Mr. Toro sees it and then adds, "That doesn't mean that your actions weren't wrong either Fiona."
After a few more minutes of him criticizing us, he decides to let us off with a warning and sends us out to our next classes.
I can't believe I went off on Fiona like that. That's so unlike me. I guess I'm just tired of the fact that most of the cheerleaders think they own the football team and they can have whichever boy they want whenever they want. They don't control those boys. I feel my blood pumping with anger again. I don't know why this bugs my so much!
I was able to get a spare pull over sweatshirt from the front desk. I walk to the bathroom and take of my dirty top and leave on my slightly moist bra. I pull the sweat shirt over my hair and throw my hair up into a messy bun because it's drenched with milk. After looking at how scrubby I look I sigh. at least this is a tight pull over sweatshirt and it doesn't look that bad with my skirt. Oh well, time's a wasting. I walk out of the bathroom and go straight to fourth block.
I finally make it to my culinary room. Class is already fifteen minutes in and they are all in separate cooking stations. Great I missed getting into groups. I walk up to the teacher and hand her my note that I got from Mr. Toro. She looks it over and smiles.
"Getting in trouble on your first day back? Evelyn, right?" She asks me.
I nod. "Yup that's me... And yeah there was a small problem in the cafeteria..."
She laughs, "Don't worry about it, there's always tension on the first day. Well, we already got into groups, but group five is missing a person, they only have three people. You can join them if you'd like."
"Yes please" I say. I don't think I know anyone in this class so as long as I have a place I'm content. She points me in the direction of my group and I walk over to the station. When I get there I see only two people standing at the station. One is a plump boy with black hair and the other is an extremely skinny girl with messy dark red hair. "Hi I'm Evelyn it's nice to meet you." I say to them with a smile.
The boy smiles, "Hi I'm Christian and this is Olivia. Oh and you can just put your backpack on the table. We are just going to be baking cookies today." I thank him and place my backpack on the table. I walk back over to where they are. They start pulling out materials and the cooking supplies.
"I thought there were four people in the group." I say as I put on my apron.
Christian looks up real fast, "Oh yeah, a boy named Gavin is also in our group. He just ran to the bathroom." he says and gets the mixer from under the table.
I look at him shocked, no way. "Wait Gavin is in our group?"
He looks up, he opens his mouth but before he speaks I hear "Yeah I'm in this group. Do you have a problem with that?" Gavin says from behind me. I freeze and turn around.
So the one with dark brown hair and gray eyes is Gavin. I shake my head. "No, no problem. I was just shocked because now I actually know someone who's in this class."
He brushes past me and grabs an apron. After putting it on he walks over to me. I look up at him and he says, "We don't even know each other." I frown. Well then, jerk.
"Yeah we do, I met you the other day after practice. Also today in first block, I saw you too."
"Oh that was you." He says casually and looks at the cookie recipe. Is he serious right now?
"Yes that was me! You seriously don't remember?" I ask him flabbergasted.
I see him sigh and then he looks at me. "Are you going to keep yapping or are you going to help us make these cookies." I stare into his dark gray eyes. After a few moments I let out a frustrated breath.
"Whatever. I've had enough problems for one day, I don't want anymore." I look down at the paper and see that we need two cups of chocolate chips. "I'll just get the chocolate chips." I slip away from the table and I feel his eyes on me as I walk away.
We got all the necessary ingredients together and managed to make a huge batch of chocolate chip cookies. I'm pretty impressed with how good they came out. They look delicious.
"You should probably eat one of those cookies before you end up drooling and ruining the rest of them." I hear Gavin say from behind me. I turn around and glare at him.
"Stop being mean to me." Oops... did I just say that? What's good with me and being out going today.
"I'm not being mean, just honest. You looked like you were going to slobber on our hard work."
"I'm not an animal, why would I drool on the cookies." I see him raise an eyebrow. Wait... is he questioning me being an animal? What a jerk. I huff and walk around him and get my backpack from the table. I'm done with people today.
I look up at the clock and it is almost time to go. Thank god. Everyone else in the class goes to grab their stuff and I see Gavin come to the table too. I shoot him a dirty look and walk to the door and wait there. After about two minutes the bell rings. Thank The Lord, it's been a long day.
