Chapter 28
I yawn. Damn, I'm tired. I feel like I've been hit with a fifty pound sack of bricks. Training sure took a lot out of me yesterday.
I slowly open my eyes and jump a little. To my surprise I see Gavin asleep right next to me. His arm is thrown over my body and I'm close to his chest. Strangely my body feels... content.
I trail my eyes down his sleeping face and chiseled jaw down to his neck then to his chest. I'm so close yet so far from him... I mean if I nudge forward a little it's kind of like I did it while I was sleeping right?
Wait what the hell am I thinking? I am not a creep, this is so unlike me. I refuse to do something so weird.
Suddenly I hear Gavin groan a little and his arm tightens around me. He pulls me toward him. I smile as he gently presses me against his chest. I guess I didn't have to do anything. Five more minutes of me sleeping in this comfy position won't hurt anyone, right?
I close my eyes and nuzzle my head into his large chest. He smells really good too. Nothing like Jason. Jason smells like campfires while Gavin smells like... like... I don't even know how to explain it! It's so good that I just can't compare it to anything...
A loud knock sounds on the door. I look up at Gavin and he still hasn't woken up yet. Crap! Another knock sounds. I wiggle out of Gavin's arms and ruffle up the covers around him to make it look like there's no one in my bed. I skip over to the door and open it. To my surprise I see Kenneth standing there.
"Oh hi." I say shocked. He looks me up and down and smirks.
"I'm sorry did I just wake you up?" he asks. I laugh.
"Kind of, but it's fine, what's up?" I ask and run a hand through my messy bed head. He scratches his head.
"Well we went to go see Gavin this morning and he wasn't there. Do you know where he could be?" Kenneth asks. I feel my face blush red a little. Oh god... I'm a terrible liar. Why did he have to ask me out of all people?
I look down and my toes."The last time I saw him was at dinner last night. Sorry I can't help you." I say with apologetically. See, lying isn't so hard.
"It's fine."
Score! He believed it! I guess I'm not so bad at lying. Take that Jason. The jerk never thought I could lie with a serious face.
Kenneth suddenly looks me up and down again. Why does he keep doing that?
"I was wondering if maybe you would want to come to the festival in town tonight. That way you can meet some of the pack members." He says.
A festival? That actually sounds like fun. I enjoy things like that. I loved when Kari and Bryce would bring me to small festivals when I was younger. Going will probably bring me back to old times.
I smile and say, "That sounds amazing! I can't wait." He smirks.
"Awesome, be ready by nine." I nod. "By the way I love the outfit." he says with a wink and walks away.
Huh? I look down and see that I'm still in that skimpy lingerie dress thing I'm forced to sleep in. Crap, that's so degrading. My face burns bright red. Suddenly the door slams shut in front of me and I see a frowning Gavin standing there.
"He's a douche." He says. I look up at him shocked.
"Why do you hate each other so much?" I ask. He looks me in the eyes.
"Long story... I don't really want to talk about it."
I frown. I hate when people bring something up then they don't talk to me about it. That has to be one of my biggest pet peeves. Why even bother showing your hate for him if no one knows why you hate each other. Ugh, boys.
That's when I remember what Kenneth said about later tonight.
"Are you going to the festival?" I ask, suddenly forgetting about the hate that sparks between him and Kenneth.
He shakes his head and walks over to the bed. "Not my thing." I frown. How can a festival not be his thing?
"Come on Gavin you have to go! It's a festival." He sighs and runs his hand through his sexy bed head. Did I just say sexy? Oh man...
"This festival isn't something I would go to. I'm fine here. I should probably go train in the woods or something anyway." I look at him shocked.
"But Gavin..." He stops me.
"You will be fine you're going with Kenneth." He says.
I look down at my feet. I kind of wanted Gavin to come. What's the point of him coming here all the way from America and he's not even willing to go to a festival? What a party pooper.
"It's a good thing he will be there too. It's not like you can protect yourself anyway, weakling." He says. I frown and look up at his smirking face. He laughs. What a jerk! I know he's kidding but he needs to pay for being a meany.
Then an idea hits me. I smirk and run at him. I tackle him in hopes of finally pinning him down. We roll onto the bed. Unfortunately, it didn't end up going how I planned, and once again Gavin is on top of me. His face is close to mine and his legs straddle my hips. I sigh.
"Alright you win... One of these days though I'm going to get you." I say. Then I look up into his gray eyes. "Why do you tease me so much?" I ask. He laughs.
"You're a fun person to get mad." I roll my eyes.
"Jason says that same thing." I add.
I see something flash in his eyes then suddenly he is off of me. He looks at my clock and walks toward the balcony window.
"I need to get back to my room before they search the whole place and can't find me anywhere." I look at him. Sadness creeps onto my face for a moment but I quickly shake off the feeling. I nod in understanding and lean up on the bed.
"Okay..." I say. Then just like that, he is gone and I'm alone in my room.
****
"This is what they wear to festivals?" I ask astonished.
I look down at the creation Stacey has put on me. I mean it's pretty but I've never worn anything like it. It's a white dress that needs a corset. The rest of it is a form of flat material that lies straight on me. The sleeves are made of the same material but cut off at my wrists. The material flows out a little at the cut off point there. The back of the dress is beautiful, it shows a little bit of my shoulders and upper back, but has lace that ties it together. It looks like an old fashioned dress made modern. It's so pretty.
"This is what they wear to this festival." Stacey says as she ties the back up. I give her an odd look.
"Why just this festival?" I ask.
"Because this festival is all about dancing, walking through the haunted house, the lanterns, and being with that special someone." Marla adds in a dreamy tone behind me. She's doing my hair. I roll my eyes.
"Marla you will find your special someone, just give it time." I say. She sighs. "Are you guys coming to the festival?" I ask. Stacey looks at me and shakes her head.
"Oh no, we have to stay here. We will probably just clean your room or something." I look around me and see that my room is perfectly clean.
"That's none sense." I say. Marla lets go of my hair and looks at me with a smile.
"You look beautiful." She says and I laugh.
"Thanks but that doesn't help this situation! Guys, go get ready, I'm taking you with me to the festival." Marla looks at Stacey with happiness in her eyes. Stacey shakes her head.
"We can't Marla. We have to stay here." I shoo my hand at her.
"I will go talk to the council. Go get ready and I will meet you downstairs with the rest of us." Stacey looks at me shocked. "Go on." I say with a smile.
Marla grabs Stacey's hand and excitedly pulls her out of the room. As soon as they exit I decide I should go talk to the council. I make my way out of my room and wander down to the familiar council room. I open up the huge double doors. All five of the councilmen are sitting down and talking.
Oh, hope I'm bot interrupting anything too important.
The one who seems to be the leader, quiets them down and turns to me. He stands and the rest of them follow suit. He smiles at me.
"What brings you here Evelyn?" He asks and I give them a genuine smile.
"I would like to have Marla and Stacey accompany me to the festival with some of the male candidates. Would that be possible?" I ask. He thinks for a moment.
"It's a rule for the maids of the house to stay here on festivals."
"Well it would make me feel a lot more comfortable to have them with me. They have helped me so much and I don't want to be the only girl..." I say and look at my hands. This better work... I already told them they could come.
I hear him sigh. "I suppose this could be an exception." I look up at him and smile.
"Thank you so much sir." I say. I bow down to show my respect.
"You're welcome Evelyn. Enjoy your time." he says.
"I shall." I say and turn. I leave the room with a shining smile on my face.
This is awesome. Marla and Stacey will be so happy! I wonder if they ever leave this mansion? And I wonder if the five council men ever leave that room... This is a really weird place.
I turn the corner and I see Kenneth, Leonardo, and Wesley standing there dressed in old fashioned tuxedos. I wonder if they are even called tuxedos? But it's what I see in fairy tails. What they are wearing is similar to what Prince Charming would wear. They look so cute!
Kenneth turns in my direction and a huge smile crosses over his face. He approaches me and grabs my hand gently.
"You look absolutely splendid tonight Evelyn." He says. He laces my arm through his own and leads me to the others.
"You don't look so bad yourself." I say. He laughs.
"Well this is the attire for the men. It's quite different but I rather like it." Kenneth says.
"Same, I think we look dashing." Wesley says and checks himself out. Leonardo frowns at him and whacks him on the head. Wesley looks at him with a frown. "What was that for?"
"You were being a nitwit." Leonardo says and rolls his eyes. Wesley walks up to him and grabs his jacket.
"I'll show you how much of a nitwi-"
"Could you guys try not to fight for this one night?" I hear Gavin say. I look up and see Gavin coming down the steps dressed in a cream colored suit that matches the others.
A smile creeps onto my face. He's coming. I thought he said that festivals weren't his thing?
Kenneth holds my arm tighter in his. "So Gavin, you decided to show up?" Gavin reaches the floor and walks up to Kenneth.
"Yeah, I did. I guess I wanted to re-live my childhood." He turns to Wesley and Leonardo. "You guys need to get over your problems. You're bickering is starting to get annoying."
After a moment of thinking, Wesley slowly lets go of Leonardo's jacket. He nods slowly and looks at Leonardo. "He is right..."
Leonardo rolls his eyes and brushes the wrinkles out of his jacket. "I guess we can keep it under control for this one night."
Marla and Stacey appear at the top of the stairs in dresses similar to the one I'm wearing. Marla is in a sparkly pink dress while Stacey is in a green one. They both look beautiful. Marla has her hair in a pretty up-do and Stacey is wearing her's down.
Marla hurries down the stairs and looks at me excitedly. "Are we going to be going soon?" She asks. I laugh.
"Yes, we can leave now. Is everyone okay with that?" I ask.
Everyone nods and Kenneth says, "Our ride is right outside." He looks me in the eyes. "Please allow me to escort you." He says with a smile.
I blink twice and blush a little. Did he really just ask to escort me out to our ride? That's so, prince like of him...
"Sure." I say.
He tugs my arm lightly and I follow him out the door. I see Marla and Stacey follow behind me quickly and the rest of the boys follow behind them.
When we get outside, there is a beautiful carriage waiting for us. There are four white horses strapped to the front. One man is sitting at the front of the carriage with the reigns in his hands.
Kenneth brings me to the steps of the carriage and helps me up. I proceed in and sit on the middle seat in the back of the carriage.
I cannot believe I am in a horse and carriage right now. This is magical! I feel like I'm in a fairy tale. I've always dreamed of this.
Marla and Stacey sit across from me with Wesley next to Marla and Leonardo next to Stacey. Kenneth sits to my right and Gavin on my left.
"Everyone all set back there?" The driver asks. We nod our heads in unison. "Then off we go."
