"Guys I can't believe how nice Fiona has been lately." Lauren says to Rosie, Peyton, and me as we walk into the school. I give her a weird look.

"Fiona, nice? Are you sure you're thinking of the right person?" I say. She laughs.

"Yeah I know, I sound crazy but it's true. Fiona hasn't done one mean thing since last week. I don't know why." Images of Gavin angrily telling her to leave flashes through my head and I smirk. That's probably why she's being so nice. Someone finally got through to her head.

We make it into the front lobby and join a few other girls including Jill.

"Guess what? Apparently Ralf and Tanya are dating now." A girl says. Rosie looks at her with a shocked expression.

"No way? Where did you hear that from?" She asks.

"Tanya told Gretchen who told me. I was shocked but apparently they have been dating in secret for a while, Tanya didn't want to tell anyone so they just made it look like they were hook up buddies. But it's official now, they are starting to tell people." Rosie frowns at this and turns to me.

"Can you believe that boy? He has gone this long without telling us he is dating Tanya? What an ass. He is going to get a piece of my mind when I see him second block." She says angrily. I laugh.

"Don't be too hard on him Rosie. Most the reason why he has kept it a secret for so long is because of you. You get mad at him so easily. If he's happy with her, let him be happy." I say. She sighs.

"I know I know. It's just so weird because it's Tanya... And the fact that Ralf is like a brother to me so I just get protective over him..." I laugh. It's true Ralf and his brother Ryan have been like brothers to Rosie. Ryan left a couple of years ago to go into the army. He's only a couple of years older than us but we haven't seen him in so long.

Ring.

The warning bell sounds and kids begin to disperse to their first classes. Rosie looks at me and smiles.

"See you third block." She says. I pat her on the shoulder.

"Go easy on Ralf okay?" I say pleadingly. She laughs.

"Fine, just for you Ev."

We part our separate ways and I go straight to Anatomy. Time to face Gavin. I'm going to pull him aside after class and talk to him because I'm still pissed from last night. What the hell is wrong with him. Why would he do such a thing?

I get into class and see Tori in her seat. I walk back and sit next to her. I look around and confirm the fact that Gavin and Seth aren't in the room.

"Where are they?" I ask and turn to Tori.

"Who?" I give her a serious look and she giggles. "I'm kidding. They decided to stay home today. They have had enough of school. Probably won't be here tomorrow either." she says with a shrug.

Ugh. What a jerk. Well if he isn't going to come to school then I'm just going to have to go to him at his house. Although I don't want Tori or the rest of them to be there... I guess I will have to go next block. This sucks because I don't have a car or my wolf so the only way I can get to their house is by foot or cab... Yeah I'm not calling a cab so it looks like I will be walking. Yay.

Class flies by quickly and soon the bell for second block rings. I say goodbye to Tori and act like I'm heading to my second period class. But instead of going up the stairs to the second floor I walk out the exit that's near the staircase.

It's a good thing I paid attention to the route that Tori and them drove when they took me to their house because now I know exactly how to get there. Although its going to take me about twenty minutes to walk there instead of five minutes by car.

I pass by the familiar roads that lead to their house. Finally I come to their street and turn down the road. I walk up their nicely decorated lawn and onto their steps. I knock on the door hard and wait for them to answer.

Nothing. I frown. I know Seth and Gavin are home because the car is still in the driveway. I ring the doorbell and wait. Suddenly the door opens and I see Seth.

He looks at me shocked. "Where is Gavin?" I say. he doesn't answer so I walk into the house.

"Ev, wait." Seth says. I make my way to the basement door and open it wide. "Evelyn don't go down there!"

I ignore him. I need to give Gavin a piece of my mind. I couldn't yell last night because we were in Kari's room, but he better bet he is going to get his ass yelled at right now.

I walk down the stairs and I see Gavin asleep. I frown and walk right up to his side of the bed. I'm about to shake him awake when I stop. I notice something odd. There is a dark bruise on his cheek that leads down to his neck. What the hell?

I slowly remove his covers and I see bruises all over his body along with cuts. His left arm is all wrapped up in a gauze and a little bit of blood is seeping through it. Oh my god.

A hand touches my shoulder and I look back at Seth shocked. He sighs.

"Please let him rest. He told me how you caught him last night. I will explain everything to you if you let him be." I stare at him stunned for a moment. "Come on." He says. I nod and look back down at Gavin. I pull the covers back over him then follow Seth up the stairs.

He motions for me to sit on the couch as he goes into the kitchen and pours me a coffee from their Kurig. He comes back with the coffee mug and hands it to me. He sits down and sighs.

"Where should I start?" He asks. I look at him shocked.

"The beginning sounds like a good place." I add hastily. He slowly nods.

"Well it all started back in the Netherlands. That's where Gavin and I are from... Gavin's family was pretty high up on the chain. People idled them. Gavin's father was the most well known teleporter. He had the most power and could do so many things that seem unimaginable. One day, tragedy struck their family, and Gavin's mother died, leaving Gavin's father to take care of their two kids. He couldn't handle it, well more like he couldn't handle them. He never really took care of the kids and soon his dad just disappeared. He left them in the hands of his partner. The teleporter, Froam. Froam was in America at this time and knew nothing about the disappearance of his friend. When he was informed he gladly accepted them and they were scheduled to be shipped to America.

"At this point I was an orphan who went to school with Gavin. We were always best friends, and he told me he was leaving. So I packed my bags and left with them. We got to America together, Froam was pretty upset that I showed up too. He would have sent me back to the Netherlands if it wasn't for my speed ability. Because of that he allowed me to stay.

"He started training Gavin at a young age to teleport long distances. At first he was slow with teleporting but he quickly increased his speed and ability. The more he used it the more powerful he became.

"Tori is Froam's neice. Her parents died when she was young and Froam took her in as his own. She always grew up thinking that Froam was trying to become the savior. She still thinks that now. She idolizes Froam and she will do anything to help him...

"As for Ariana, Gavin's sister... She's hidden away somewhere and only Froam knows where she is. See, it got to a point when we got older that Gavin realized Froam's beliefs were crazy. One day Gavin took Ariana and went to run away. Before they could escape, Froam took Ariana. He has had her ever since and uses her to get Gavin to do his dirty work."

I look at him shocked. The name Froam sounds so familiar... Where do I know it from? This is crazy... But I still don't understand.

"Wait Seth." I say and look at him. "I don't get it, what would Froam want with Kari's kids?" I ask. He sighs.

"Froam had this idea..." He shakes his head, "I guess you will need some back story... So there are two main packs back in the Netherlands, the Thorn Pack who can teleport and have a speed ability and the Mist Pack who have the ability to heal and read the future. They have been at war and against each other for centuries. Almost nothing can make them get along. Well the one thing about these abilities is that they are always past down to the first child.

"So since I have the speed ability, my first child will automatically have the ability of speed. Froam took this and thought, if we were to combine the powers of a teleporter or someone with the speed ability with someone who has the healing or future reading ability then we could get the two packs to come together..."

My eyes widen. "So Kari's kids will have the healing ability because they are twins and they are her first born?" I ask. He nods. "So he is taking her kids to eventually force them to have children with someone with power? Are you kidding? They were just born, how can he even think like that!" I shout.

"I don't know Evelyn. But you can't be mad at Gavin. He is trying his best to get his sister back... He doesn't want to do these things." I look at him surprised.

"Why is he like that? Why is he all bruised and cut?" I suddenly ask worriedly.

"Froam sent him on a mission last night... Somehow Froam lost his ability to teleport so Gavin is his only way to get the kids. The mission was to get her children and bring them back. When he returned with nothing Froam lost his temper..." Seth says.

So that bruise on him that I saw when we returned from South Carolina wasn't from him running into the table... He's been putting up with all of this shit for years.

"Will Froam give Ariana back?" I ask.

He shakes his head. "No, not until he has Kari's kids in his possession." He sighs and runs his hand through his hair. "Evelyn, Gavin seems to have grown attached to you. He doesn't usually get along with anyone that well... He's stuck. He wants his sister back but he won't try to hurt you. He doesn't know what to do."

Oh my god... This Froam guy needs to pay for what he is doing. Who does this? I can't believe this. So he wants Kari's kids because of their ability? He is one sick bastard.

"Will Gavin be okay?" I ask worriedly.

Seth nods. "He should be fine in a couple of hours. He usually heals pretty quick... By tonight he should be walking around..."

Suddenly I hear the front door nob start to wiggle. Seth looks up at me with worried eyes.

"You can't be here. Come on." he takes the coffee from me and puts it down. He runs me to the basement door and pushes me down the stairs. "Leave. Go through the basement door. You will see us in school soon. Don't tell anyone I talked to you. Go." he says. I stumble down the stairs into the dark basement. Seth shuts the door and I practically fall onto the wall.

Shit. I turn the corner and see Gavin still asleep on his bed. I walk over to him and glance down. His bruises look bad. I reach down and run my fingers gently over the bruise on his cheek. That's when I notice a scar on his forehead. I push away his hair and see that the scar stretches into his hair line. Crap that looks like it must have hurt...

Gavin suddenly starts to stir. I freeze. Shit, did I wake him? He reaches up and grabs my hand and pulls it next to his head on his pillow. He keeps my hand in his as he continues his steady breathing. I look at his hurt face one more time and sigh. I slowly untangle my hand from his and walk to the door. I turn around one more time.

I can't believe everything he has been through... Has he really put up with this Froam character for over half his life?

One thing is for sure. I need to help him get out of this mess. Now that I know about this, I can't sit around and do nothing.
