Chapter 16

"Excuse me, do you know where cabin 24 is?" I ask the manager of the Morris Woodberry Cabin's resort. He is sitting behind the check in counter.

"Well of course I know, but may I ask why you would like to know that? That cabin is currently occupied at the moment." I smile at him sweetly.

"I know, my aunt Gloria is staying there. She wanted me to stop and visit her for a little bit." He nods his head then looks behind me at Gavin, he gives Gavin a questioning look.

"Is this your brother then?" The man asks. I look to Gavin. Gavin smirks and walks up to me and puts an arm around my shoulders.

"No she's my girlfriend. Her aunt wanted to meet me for the first time." I smile and look to the manager. See my cover did come in handy!

"Oh, okay. Gloria is a very nice woman. I'm sure she will be happy to see you then. The cabins are back behind the main building. Cabin twenty four is the twelfth cabin on the left. it is the most secluded. You know how she doesn't like noises." I nod like I understand.

"Of course. Sounds just like her. Thank you!" I say. Gavin removes his arm from my shoulder and I lead him through the lobby and out the back door into the pouring rain.

I put my hood back on and follow the managers directions. As I pass by all the other cabins I notice how similar they are to the one in my vision. This is definitely the right place.

In the distance I see a small light shine from deep in the woods. That looks familiar.

Bang.

I freeze in my place as thunder booms around me. So that really was thunder in my vision... I feel something touch my shoulder and I jump. I turn and see Gavin with his hand where my shoulder once was. He's giving me a serious look.

"Are you okay?" He asks me. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and nod. Jesus he scared the crap out of me!

"Yeah I'm fine, just a little jumpy is all..." I look toward the light on the cabin and take in a shaky breath. Okay, I've got this. "Come on." I say.

We walk towards the light. Every step closer reveals a little bit more of the cabin.

"So this is where Kari is?" Gavin asks me. I shake my head.

"No she's in the woods behind the cabin. She's about to have quite the conflict with Gloria. We need to hurry." I say. I rush toward the woods. Crap, which way did I go in my vision... I remember something happened that lead me to Kari... What was it?

A loud voice screeches through the trees like someone is yelling.

Oh right! I could hear their fighting... I rush over to where I hear the voices coming from. Gavin is right behind me. As I get closer I see Kari's and Gloria's figures appear. This time Kari is already on the ground and Gloria is hovering over her.

"Stop!" I scream and continue to run through the trees. Gloria looks up and sees Gavin and me coming. She jumps up and begins to shift.

She lands on the ground with her four paws and stares at us for a moment. Then she runs off. So many parts of my body are telling me to run after her and make her pay for what she did, but I know I need to help Kari.

I run to Kari's side and lift her head and place it on my lap. She's definitely still alive. She is only knocked out. I hope this spell isn't permanent....

I look up and notice that Gavin isn't next to me. I look around quickly. I find him standing at the woods where I just came from. He's looking in the direction in which Gloria just left. He looks stunned.

"Gavin!" I shout. No reply. "Gavin!" I scream. He jumps out of his little daze and looks at me. "A little help?" I yell at him. He jogs over to my side and bends down to pick Kari up.

"What just happened..." He says. "I'm so confused..."

I sigh and stand to my feet. "I guess I do owe you an explanation..." The rain is already lightened so I can clearly see Gavin's expecting face. "That's Gloria, she's a witch. She put a spell on Kari and now I don't know if she's going to wake up... I mean I pray it's not permanent but the only way to know for sure is to bring her back to the pack doctor and have her take a look..." He looks at me shocked.

"But Gloria is a werewolf... She just turned into one." I shake my head.

"She isn't one... Can I just explain this after you bring Kari back? I can't keep her here anymore she could be getting sick..." I look him in the eyes. "You have enough energy to make it back right?" he takes in a deep breath and nods.

"I think so... This far distance was a lot more than I expected... Evelyn, what if I don't have enough energy to come back for you?" I smile and touch his arm lightly.

"That's fine. You don't have to come back until you gain enough energy. As long as you get Kari to Jason then I will be happy. Thank you so much Gavin. I will be around here. Just come back when you can." He nods his head.

In the next second he is gone and so is Kari. I'm alone. I turn around and look at where Gloria left to. I have to go after her. I turn and run in that direction. I need to find her. She has to pay for what happened.

A wolf howls from my left. That has to be her. I follow the sound. It leads me to a river. I hear a shuffling of leaves behind me. I turn around and see a little wolf head with red eyes staring at me.

So she knows I came after her.

"Shift back." I command her. She rolls her eyes but obeys. Soon she is a human in front of me and naked. Ew.

"I will never give you your ability to shift back." She states. I frown.

"You had no right to take it from me." I say and shake my head frustratedly. "That's not why I'm here though. That spell that you used on Kari. What is it?" I ask angrily.

"Oh that? It's a simple spell that will make her sleep for a few hours, maybe a day depending on her." I sigh in relief.

"So she will be okay." I state to myself. I glare at her. "You could have hurt her or her children. Why risk it when you could have easily gotten away without touching her?" I ask. She rolls her eyes and takes a few steps out of the bushes.

"Yes but it's no fun when I'm not using magic. What good is a witch who never uses her magic?" She asks plainly.

"You're a bitch." I state.

"And you're a useless human." I frown even harder.

"I want to kill you so bad right now." I say angrily. She smirks.

"But you can't. Because you have no power and you're weak." She approaches me and pushes me to the ground. I fall easily because she has the power of my wolf.

She reaches down and pins me to the floor.

"I could so easily kill you right now." She adds and grabs my face in one of her hands.

I don't even struggle because I know how easily she could hurt me. I just sit there and glare at her.

"Let go of her." A voice shouts.

I look to my left and see Gavin standing in the tree line. Gloria looks at me and smirks.

"Well isn't he a cutie." I roll my eyes. She lets go of me and strides over to him. He glares at her.

"Hey handsome." She says in a flirty tone.

"Take another step closer and I will rip you to shreds." He says. She holds her hands up defensively and stops walking.

"Okay okay. Calm down. I guess I will just be going then." She turns to me. "Until next time Evelyn." She shifts and runs away.

I get up from the ground and dust myself off. I look at Gavin but he is once again staring off at where Gloria just left. What's his deal?

"Gavin?" I say gently. He runs a hand through his hair and turns to me with a flustered look. "You came back?" He looks weak and confused.

"Yeah." He pauses then looks back to where Gloria left. He turns back to me. "I had enough energy to come back. I didn't want to leave you alone all night."

I smile happily. Suddenly Gavin stumbles, I reach out and try to steady him but he's so heavy I practically fall myself. Curse not having werewolf strength...

I help him lean against a tree. Once I realize he can hold himself up, I let go of him and take a step back.

"Are you okay?" I ask concerned. He nods his head and stands up straight.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little tired is all." he looks at me. "Why didn't you push her off you? Shes just a witch after all... Even though she can shift... Everything about that woman confuses me right now." He says and runs a hand through his hair.

I sigh. "I couldn't push her off because she's stronger than me." He looks at me funny.

"But you're a werewolf... You should be ten times stronger than her." I sigh and look down.

"I guess I should tell you."

"Tell me what?"

"I'm not a werewolf." He looks up at me shocked. "I was, but I had my ability to shift taken from me..."

"That can happen?" he asks seriously. I nod.

"There's a spell that can be used to steal the ability from one body and transport it to another... That's what Gloria did to me." His eyes go wide.

"So that's your wolf?" I nod. "What does that mean for you then?" I sigh then lean against the same tree as him.

"For one, it means that I can't shift. But besides that, I don't know if I can find my mate and I don't have the strength of a werewolf..." I sigh. "Basically I'm a human..."

"But you're not hurt? She just took your wolf?" I nod. I look up at the sky and feel the water drip down onto my face. "We should get somewhere dry." He says to me.

"Yeah." I say.

I follow Gavin all the way back to the main lobby. He walks up to the manager and talks to him for a while. When he comes back to me he is holding a key in his hand.

"I got a room. He only had two available. One with a queen bed and one with a king. I got the king room, I hope you don't mind." I shake my head and water sprits everywhere. A drop land on Gavin's cheek and I laugh. I reach up and wipe it off for him.

"Sorry about that." And for the first time in forever, Gavin smiles.

"It's fine." He says. I sit there and look at him stunned. He has a really nice smile.... He frowns. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"You have a really nice smile. You should do it more often." I say. Oh boy... Did I say that out loud? He smirks.

"You trying to hit on me Evelyn Brewer?" I feel my face blush and my jaw drops.

"Absolutely not!" I slap him gently on the chest. "Way to ruin a good moment we had there." I laugh and swipe the key from his hand. "Which room are we in?"

"Thirty seven."

I lead him around the building and manage to find our room with no problem. I open the door and my mouth gaps open. It's so nice! That bed looks so comfortable and there is even a couch! I run in. As I'm about to jump in the bed Gavin's voice stops me.

"Don't jump in the bed all wet!" he shouts. I frown and turn.

"What am I supposed to do? This is all I have to wear." I say and pout. He rolls his eyes.

"Don't give me that look. Here." He says and pulls his backpack off his back. Wait when did he get a backpack?

He takes out a sweatshirt and a pair of gym shorts and tosses them to me. I catch them. Wow they are nice and dry.

"Thanks Gavin, that's really thoughtful of you." He nods and pulls out more clothes from his bag. I'm assuming those are for himself.

"I'm going to change." I say and skip to the bathroom. I open the door and quickly shut it. I strip off my gross wet clothes. After using the bathroom I put on Gavin's sweatshirt and gym shorts. I'm going commando... Judge me, my underwear was soaked.

I open the bathroom door and step out into the room. I stop when I realize Gavin's in the process of putting on a new shirt. I stare for a moment then turn around and block my eyes.

"I am so sorry." I squeal. I hear Gavin laugh. It's a sweet laugh and I smile.

"It's fine. I'm done now, you can turn around" I turn around. I can feel the blush burnt onto my face. Wow this is embarrassing. He walks past me and into the bathroom. I sigh. Well I guess I should get into bed. I look at the king size bed then suddenly worry flushes through me.

There's only one bed... This means we are going to have to share the same bed...

My heart beat quickens. It's fine right? I mean I've shared a bed with Jason before. It doesn't mean anything. It will be fine. I crawl onto the bed and pick the side I like better.

Okay, it will turn out just fine. It's only one night. Just then the door to the bathroom opens and Gavin comes out. He looks at me and laughs.

"Looks like someone's tired." I nod my head and yawn. Wow I guess I didn't realize just how exhausted I was. "Ready for bed then?" My heart races. But I nod anyway. Why am I so nervous?

Gavin makes his way over to the light then turns it off. I wait for him to get into bed. But the bed never moves. Huh?

I hear movement near the couch area and then silence... Wait so he doesn't want to sleep in the bed. My heart drops and I get sad. Wait, I shouldn't be saddened by this, right? I should be happy, yes?

Ugh, nope I'm sad... Maybe I should say something?

"Um Gavin?" I ask quietly. I hear him grunt showing that he heard me. "You don't want to stay in the bed?"

I hear a little movement then Gavin says, "I figured you wouldn't want to share. I'm fine on the couch." He says. I frown. Well I'm not fine with you on the couch... that's what I wanted to say but maybe I shouldn't say that...

"I don't mind sharing. Plus you've helped me out a lot today. Just come on the bed, the couch can't be comfortable." I say quietly. I hear a sigh then movement.

I smile to myself as the bed dips down.

"Fine, I will sleep on the bed." He says. His voice now so close his whisper seams like a scream.

"Thanks again for helping me today." I say.

"No problem." He's silent for a moment then he says, "How did you know exactly where Kari was?" Oh right... Maybe I should tell him about that too... I mean he has done so much to help me, plus I know about his power... It's only fair...

I let out a sigh. "Well you know how you can teleport?" I say.

"Yeah."

"Well instead of being able to teleport I can predict the future." I say quietly.

Silence. He doesn't answer me. Is he weirded out or something? I mean he can teleport, how is being able to predict the future any weirder than that?

"Who else knows?" he asks suddenly.

"About my ability?" I ask.

"Yeah." Why does he want to know that?

"Just Kari, Bryce, a few of their friends and Jason. Why?"

"Keep it that way. Don't tell anyone else." Um... okay this is weird...

"But Gavin-"

"No." He says and takes a deep breath. "Please Evelyn, just don't tell anyone else. Especially not Tori or Seth."

"Why not Tori or Seth?" I ask. This is weird, those are his closest friends... Did I make a mistake by telling him?

"Just don't tell anyone else." I frown. I hate when people tell me what I can and can't do. Something about his tone of voice tells me he's serious though...

"Fine." I say. Silence fills the air and all the worries of the day begin to fade as I slip into the darkness of sleep.
