Chapter 9 - No One Can Save You Now

Olivia POV

The room is filled with more people than I'd expect. There is a light buzz of chatter and I can already see some people staring at us.

"Why are they looking at us?" I whisper to my brother.

"Because we're such a good looking family," he responds and I laugh, feeling slightly more relaxed. I squeeze his arm again to try and calm my nerves.

"Should we go in?" He whispers. Again, Luke usually hid his feelings and pretended to be tough, but no one knew him better than me, and I knew that he was also nervous.

I swallow the lump in my throat and nod. We slowly walk in and I let go of his arm, bringing mine together in front of me. The doors are closed quietly behind us and I quickly scan the room for a familiar face.

"Hey!" Theo pops up from out of nowhere, "we were waiting for you!"

"Sorry, we, uh-" I decide not to tell him we were too nervous to leave, "got held behind."

"Come on, come on," he ushers us to a large, round table.

"This is unreal," I whisper as I look at all the important- looking faces.

"I feel like proper royalty now," my twin laughs to himself.

"Well you are going to be King," Theo slaps him on the back, both of them laughing.

"Who is all here?" I ask my cousin.

"Both the royal families, and some of the other powerful people I think- like rich people, owners of large amounts of land, that kind of thing. We need other people to help run the place too," he says and I nod.

"Keeps it a little calmer," I sigh "it feels less intense when it's not just our families."

Thankfully, I didn't see a certain blonde-headed boy seated around the table.

I remember Uncle Felix telling me why it was round- something about how if it was a rectangular table there would be two people at either end who would seem in charge. This sort of table makes everyone in the room equal, and being able to hear each other, or something like that. I kind of zoned out at that part.

But, of course, we weren't really here to talk, just to make our family look strong in numbers.

Just as we are about to start, the doors fly open.

"Sorry we're late!" A blonde haired girl enters the room, followed by- Logan?

"It-" he puts his hands on his knees, panting, "was Betty's fault."

"Was not!" The girl snaps back at him.

"Logan, Elizabeth. Sit down now," the same man sends them a stare look.

I quickly turn round as I accidentally make eye contact with him. My back is facing the door, but of course, with my luck, he is sitting a few seats away from being directly across from me. I see who I remembered was his sister look at me strangely and then whispers to him. They both look at me and he looks at her and shakes his head.

"Now that we're all here, let's begin," the man announces.

Stop it, I mouth to him as he continues to stare at me, smirking. I completely zone out of the ongoing conversation. He simply shrugs, glances away for a few moments and then glancing back at me.

You're going to get us in trouble, I try and tell him.

What? He scrunches up his eyebrows.

You are go-ing to get us in trou-ble, I try to spell out.

He simple shrugs his shoulders and continues to smirk, and I can't help but smile back.

I feel a sharp kick on my left leg and turn to see Theo, narrowing his eyes at me.

"Pay attention," he whispers in my ear, eyeing Logan, "and don't look at the Daltons."

"I didn't know, I'm sorry," I lie and lower my head.

I turn to see Theo giving him a death glare, and him continuing to smirk, looking between my cousin and I.

"Bastard," I can hear him mumble under his breath. To be fair, why is he doing that? Obviously it's going to make him angry.

"Theo, I'm sure he doesn't mean any harm," I try and calm him down.

"Why are you sticking up for him?" He hisses in my ear.

"I'm not, I'm just trying not to start a fight which ends up in us embarrassing our family," I tell him which seems to calm him down.

Please don't tell Luke. Please don't tell Luke. I knew that Theo could probably control himself, but Luke is another story.

"Stay away from him," he whispers in my ear and we both turn our attention back to the main conversation.

Yet I can't seem to focus on the serious discussion about outside of the wall. I should be, but I can shake the pair of eyes constantly on me. Is he serious?

Before I know it, chairs begin to scrape on the floor and my head shoots up. Three o'clock? No way have I zoned out for two whole hours. Uncle Felix is going to kill me. I stand up and look around as everyone starts to leave.

I feel someone's hand on mine. Logan turns his head away from me but places something into my hand. He walks away quickly. I look down at a folded piece of paper. I need to apologise about what happened a while ago, I found an unused office space on the floor above us. I'll see you there.

I don't completely trust him, but decide to hear him out. I'd feel guilty if I didn't. I manage to sneak away from my family and climb the stairs to the floor above. Most of the place is unused anyway. People only really come here for meetings like today. I hear voices behind a few doors, but eventually find what I think is the right one.

"Hello?" I whisper with my head poking through the door.

"Get in before someone sees you!" He quickly pulls me in and close the door.

"Wow. Sorry," I fix my dress as he turns back around.

"I'm sorry, I had to see you," he runs a hand through his hair. Something was clearly bothering him. The entire meeting he was so chill about it all but the second we were alone he seemed- different. His face was a little flushed and noticing it made my heart race.

"What?" I'm taken aback a little.

"This-" he sighs, "I really can't stop thinking about you. I'm sorry, I really tried but I- I can't."

I realise that I've been the same way. He looks at me nervously, waiting for an answer.

Is he telling the truth?

"Me too, but you know how wrong this is, our families would be furious if they found out we ever met," I try and reason with him.

"I don't care! I want to be with you!" His voice raises.

"You- what?" I stutter in disbelief. We spend a few moments in silence, trying to read the other's facial expression.

"What the hell," he begins to walk towards me.

"What are y-"

Then he kisses me, again, and I almost forgot how good it felt. My hands pulled down his neck, deeper into the kiss, and for once I didn't seem to care about anything. I knew my feelings for him were real now, but it was whether to pursue them any longer that was the question.

Everything was at stake now. My family. My reputation. Everything, and all the while thinking this I couldn't seem to tear myself away from him. I decided to enjoy what little freedom I had. I knew I wanted to be with him but I could never give up my family for it.

I was so conflicted inside it almost distracted me from what was really happening.

As we finally pulled away, breathing heavily, I whispered against his lips, "I want to be with you, too."
