Chapter 47 - Who To Trust?

Logan POV

The angry twin and I had apparently caused quite a scene, because soon we were overrun with guards and whisked off in opposite directions. Apparently any drama was meant to be avoided as much as possible, a year or so too late for that, Your Majesties.

"Your Highness, I've been assigned to take you somewhere more private for the time being," a taller man with dark hair and eyes approaches from one of the hallways to our right, and gives the other two guards that were escorting me a quick flash of some sort of badge before they nod and leave us alone.

"Alright," I shrug, and begin to follow the mysterious new character along the halls. He doesn't say much, so I decide to make conversation to take my mind off of her, "I forgot to ask your name."

"Antonio, Your Highness," he briefly replies, "I'm one of your father's trusted guards."

"Oh? I've never seen you around," I raise my eyebrows, maybe the King has some secret force he hasn't told me about.

"Yes, well, my job is to be discrete and keep the royal family safe," he replies.

"I see," I nod. A silence follows. Antonio seems distracted, and no other guards seem to acknowledge him. We enter hallway after hallway until the sound of others' voices fades away.

"In here, Your Highness," Antonio opens a door for me and I enter, they must really be trying to contain this to take me so far away, probably had guards on-call for situations just like these.

"How long have we to stay here for?"

Silence.

I turned around to realise I was alone in the room. Not only that, but the fucker had locked me in. I was enraged - Father had clearly told them to lock me away until everyone else had left, so I didn't see much point in yelling at the guard. The situation was very strange, though. I had never seen this Antonio character before in my life.

I paced around the room, looked out the window, tried the door a couple more times, looked out the window again.

(Antonio working for organisation - give them a name and a leader)

"We have someone else getting him. They should be here soon, Sir," she responds quickly and he nods.

Who are they talking about? I wonder, shivering at the eerie silence.

The doors which I had entered through swing open again and my heart stops.

"Logan?" I gasp.

"Shut up," the woman next to me squeezes my arm painfully.

Logan looks up and his eyes lock with mine. His expression suddenly changes to anger as he realised that I've also been kidnapped. I almost couldn't believe it, but there he was in front of me. Was I hallucinating? Dreaming? Losing all sanity?

He is led to me and quickly pulls me into a hug.

"I'm going to get us out of this, sweetheart, I promise," he whispers into my ear before we're pulled away from each other.

"Enough!" The gold-masked man yells which causes me to jump.

He walks towards us, "one of you might have gotten away before but I can assure you that won't happen again."

"Why are we here?" Logan spits, clearly unaffected by his intimidating stance. I, on the other hand, was standing as far behind Maria as possible.

"First," the man stands inches away from Logan's face, "you two are going to answer a few questions for us."

My heart feels ready to jump out of chest as he turns to me, "then we'll ask your families for what we want in exchange for the both of you."

I feel dizzy.

He begins to laugh, "then we'll kill you."

Almost at the same time Logan and I begin to struggle against the grip of the people holding us. They're going to kill us! I can't seem to pay attention to anything anymore. I can hear Logan yelling something at them but I can't listen. They're going to kill us. We're going to die.

I feel very dizzy.

"No!" I snap out of my daze when I see one of the people holding Logan inject something into his arm causing him to slowly fall asleep.

"Let him go!" I scream. I then realised that I was hysterically crying out of both fear and anger. I couldn't control it. I didn't want to let Logan out of my sight now that I knew they were going to kill us.

I gasp and turn around to see Maria frowning at me while holding a needle into my arm. My eyes slowly begin to close and the last thing I see is Logan's unconscious body being dragged away.

When I woke up, I saw Logan sitting on the floor next to me. I could tell we were in some sort of cell.

"Logan-" I breathed out, sitting up and feeling slightly dizzy from both the drugs and the shock.

My head was spinning as he began to approach me. I stood still until he wrapped his arms around me, gently at first.

It wasn't until I felt his arms around me, I smelt his familiar scent, his hair, his grip around my waist, that my arms wrapped around his neck and I jumped up, putting my legs around his waist to hug him tighter. The sobs came pouring out of my throat, as he hugged me.

"It's okay," he whispered gently, "you're okay."

"I- t-thought you were-" I tried to form a sentence against his shoulder.

"I know, sweetheart, I'm so sorry," hearing his voice made my cry even harder, I had missed him so much.

He gently placed me back on the ground, and I looked up into his eyes for the first time in a long time. I could tell my eyes were red and glossy from crying, because he frowned and wiped under my eyes with his thumbs.

"I don't understand, they- they told me you died-" I whispered, scared I would start to cry again.

"Of course they did," he scoffed, eyes flashing with anger for a moment before looking back to me lovingly, "your brother almost killed me. A few inches difference and the bullet probably would have."

"I am so sorry Logan. Luke is-" I frowned, clenching my shaking fists on his shirt as I thought of my twin, "I could actually kill him! He shot you and made me believe you were dead! My family, they-" I paused.

"What did they do to you?" An angry flash struck across his eyes once again.

I frowned, "I-I don't want to talk about it," I nuzzled my head into his chest and he stroked my back, "I just- I can't believe it. I thought you were really gone. I'm so happy you're alive, Logan."

"I'm sorry you had to go through that," I could see the sorrow in his eyes, he evidently went through a tough time, too, and I knew for certain that what I felt for him was real. Despite everything my brother had said, it was real.

"I'm just so happy," I cried, before my voice lowered to a whisper, "it was real."

"Hmm-?"

You did love me.

"I still can't believe Luke, he- he-"

Before I had even realised, my knees buckled beneath me and I fell towards the ground, only to be caught by a (very nice) pair of arms.

"Whoa, you okay?" He sits beside me on the floor, a concerned expression on his face.

"Yeah- sorry I think- I got a little overwhelmed-" I shook my head, still feeling a bit dizzy, "-and whatever it was they gave me, it'll pass soon. It's just a lot to take in."

"That's alright," he nods.

"But-" I looked up, only now noticing the guards outside of the room, "-what are we going to do? They're going to kill us!"

"My father wouldn't want to lose his heir, I'm sure he'll find us soon," he rolls his eyes and I remain silent.

There was a few minutes of silence.

"Is- it a stupid question to ask if you're okay?" He asks and I laugh.

"I suppose," I shrug, "but at least now the nightmares and stuff will stop."

"Nightmares?"

"Yeah," I nod, "it was as if I was forced to watch it happen over and over again for months on end. The only reason it was bearable was because I got to see your face."

He frowned wordlessly.

"I was so scared I'd forget your face, or voice, or-"

"Hey, I'm here now, alright? And I'm getting you out of here."
