Chapter 10 - I've Got Your Back

Olivia POV

For a while, we were silent as we lay together on a small sofa. He held me, and I was happy, though still so conflicted inside. I really felt truly happy when I was with him and it was a relief from all the stress of being a princess. I knew we met not that long ago, but it didn't seem to bother either of us. I was still cautious but I could feel something genuine coming from him.

"We're going to have to figure this out soon, you know," I whisper into the dimly lit room.

I can feel him tense as he replies, "I know."

"I don't know what to do," I can't help a few tears streaming down my cheeks. I sniffle and he turns my head to face him, wiping underneath my eyes.

"I won't rush you," he tells me as he cradles my head into his chest. I took a moment to breathe in his scent, which calmed me down a little.

"I don't want to lose anyone," I can't help but cry.

"You won't. We'll figure something out," he kisses the top of my head.

"Do we have to tell them? Our families?"

"Not if you don't want to, but eventually we will, secrets don't last forever," he sighs.

"Are you really willing to do that? If we do there's a good chance we won't see each other again, I'm worried something bad will happen," I frown as I realise the truth.

"Don't worry. I won't let anything bad happen to you," he kisses the top of my head again.

"Wouldn't it be hard keeping this a secret?" I look up at him.

"I'm sure we'll manage," he smiles at me and I return it.

"So," he trails off, "now that we're officially keeping things secret, would you like to officially be my secret girlfriend?"

I can't help but laugh, "I would be honoured."

He pulls me into a cuddle and I laugh again. We spend a little while longer together before sneaking back out of the building. Thankfully, we were manage to convince the guards at the front doors that I lost something and Logan went to help me find it so I don't think that they'll mention it to anyone. Hopefully.

He goes his way, and I go mine. Did I really just do that?

My speed-walk turns into a jog and I yank up my dress as the sun begins to slowly set. I don't enter through the main doors this time and sneak through the door to the kitchen as to try and not be seen. I make my way through the busy staff, keeping my head down and yanking up my dress.

"Liv!" I hear Lewis's voice call to me from the hall. I try to avoid him but he jogs to catch up with me.

"Hey, how was it? When you didn't come back with the rest of them I was worried!" He told me.

"Did anyone else notice?" I ask him worriedly.

"Not really, our uncles were too busy talking about something to do with building more villages, cleaning outside of the wall, stuff like that," he tells me and I sigh with relief.

"Good," I say as I hurry up the stairs.

He follows me, "what's going on? Are you okay?"

"Yeah, fine," I tell him, "I'd just like some time to myself please."

He sighs and eventually gives up. That night we all decided to have dinner together, because Uncle Felix apparently wanted to talk to us. As we sit down, he makes a toast.

"I would like to thank Olivia, Luke and Theo for their participation today. I know it couldn't have been easy but I'm very proud to call you my family," he smiles and seems genuinely happy.

He goes on, "I know we've all made some mistakes, but so long as we admit to them we can get through them as a family."

My glass slightly shakes in my hand. He's hitting way too close to home, but there's no way he could know, is there? I'm brought back by the sound of chatter and glasses clinking. I'm being too paranoid.

But then again, even if he doesn't know exactly what, I know I've not been entirely sneaky on my adventures to the wall. Felix is very clever, I need to be more careful.

As we finish dinner, Lydia immediately pulls me away from the table by my arm.

"Okay, okay, I'm coming," I giggle as we make our way up the stairs.

"Tell me everything! Was he there?" She says in a more hushed tone.

I nod my head and her face lights up, "tell me!"

"We kind of kissed, again," I feel my face heat up, "and he asked me to be his girlfriend," I almost whisper, terrified that someone else will hear.

"What? Seriously? Livvy if anyone found out it would end so, so badly," she frowns.

"They won't!" I assure her.

"Wait, so it's like, a secret relationship?" She lowers her voice even more.

I nod my head again as her eyes widen, "wow, Olivia! I didn't think you would do something like that."

"Neither did I. I don't want to lose anyone for it but I don't exactly want to get rid of him, either. It's weird," I tell her.

"Did you tell him that?"

"Yes. He seems to understand," I shrug.

"He'll be going through the same thing you know," she reminds me.

"I just can't believe how weird this is," I tell her as we reach her room, "I'm being so stupid but I can't help it!"

"You can't help who you fall for," she reassures me as she enters her room, "goodnight!"

"Goodnight," I smile as she closes the door.

I check Lewis's room and find that he's not back yet. I walk along to Liam's room and knock on the door quietly. I hear him tell me to come in and I enter.

"Hey, I just wanted to check up on you. Everything okay?" I ask as I sit on his bed beside him.

He looks up at the ceiling as he is lying down, "yeah, of course. You?"

I nod, "I'm okay."

We sit in silence for a while longer before I speak up, "I'm sorry if you feel like I'm not spending enough time with you. I feel bad."

He sits up and looks at me curiously, "why would you think that?"

"I don't know," I sigh, "do you think I'm a bad person?"

"Why did you kill someone or something?" He asks jokingly.

It feels like it.

"No," I laugh, "I guess I've just been having a bad day."

I fall back onto the bed and sigh.

"Well, I don't think you're a bad person if that makes you feel better. I'm sorry for being mean to you a few days ago too," he smiles sadly.

I laugh, "you're sweet."

For once.

He shakes his head vigorously, "do not call me that."

"Okay. Sorry. Just promise you'll never hate me," I say.

"I've always hated you."

I laugh, he and I were definitely on good terms.

"What's gotten you all nice and stuff?" He asks seriously, sitting up.

"I just need to make sure that we've always got each others backs," I tell him more seriously.

"Yeah, sure," he says and we look at each other in silence before bursting out laughing.

"You're honestly starting to scare me now, Liv," he laughs.

"Sorry," I stand up and walk over to the door, "goodnight."

"By the way, Liv?" He calls after me and I turn around.

"Have you shrunk?"

Oh, brothers.
