July 29, 1882 - Lucius
I have assured my brother's loyalty once more. He is headstrong and defiant, but he is loyal to me and he is loyal to my cause. Our cause.
He relayed everything he has learned of Miss Holbrook to me. He is clever—I shall give him that. He has convinced the girl that he is on her side and that he is trying to protect her from me. In this endeavor, he has managed to grow closer to her. Close enough to have not only learned of her strange ability, but to have experienced it for himself. As the daughter of Gressil indicated, Leviathan was injured in Hyde Park this past Friday and it was, perhaps by accident, that Miss Holbrook did take the pain from him.
He has also solidified the identity of her guardians—archangels. Gabriel was obvious enough as he was foolish enough to keep his own name, but the other two with him were eluding me. I searched what notes I had on them, but am still unsure exactly which of the angels they are. Leviathan believes it is—Uriel and Sariel.
Uriel because she is the keeper of human deaths—she, I am certain, has been disrupted because of our possession of live human bodies. I cannot help but be pleased at the discomfort this must cause her, as it is here job to tend to the bodies and souls of the deceased, we have created a problem. The souls are displaced but the body is still living. Oh, how complicated this must be for her.
And as for Sariel, she was given the pitiful job of watching us. Since the fall it has been her job to keep us in check and make sure we do not cause too much havoc. I have encountered her many times, as has Leviathan, and she is easy enough to deal with. I take her presence as further proof of what I initially assumed: this is a plot of heaven.
If Miss Holbrook has come to end our reign on earth, it would make sense that she would have these three with her. I only wonder where the warrior angel is. Seems unlike him to miss such an interesting gathering.
It was quite clever of Leviathan to ease his way into her trust—or at least into her home. I do not know if she actually told him any of this. In fact, I believe he just slowly pieced it together on his own—how incredibly splendid. He had no thoughts on who exactly he believed our angel turned human could be. Either way, the soul Miss Holbrook bartered for will be wasted for I shall send her back to her maker in due time. She is in my kingdom—and so she is mine now.
