Playing With Matches

Fallon waited by the back of the gas station for her rival. The time was 5:47pm, so her rival would be getting off work soon. By Fallon's feet stood a bucket filled with gasoline. In her hoodie pocket was the box of matches, ready just to pull out and watch her victim burn. Fallon was wearing a white plastic mask, gloves and the hoodie with black leggings so her identity was hidden. The hood was up, covering her hair. All she had to do now was play the waiting game.

10 minutes later, Fallon could hear a voice getting nearer. The voice belonged to Katie. Fallon had hid herself behind the bins to avoid being spotted. Katie approached the bins and put something inside. As she was turning to head back, Fallon stood up, making her presence known.
"Who are you?" Katie asked. Fallon remained silent. She bent down and picked up the bucket. She emptied the contents of the bucket onto Katie. "What did you just throw at me? It smells like... gasoline?" Fallon dropped the bucket and took the box out of her pocket. She lit a match, and with a psychotic smile, flicked the match at Katie. She screamed, pain burning through her body. Fallon put the box back into her pocket and ran. She got to a distance where she could still see Katie burn, but far enough to avoid suspicion.

The fire was spreading through the gas station. Any minute now it would explode. Fallon kept on running as far away as she could. She would hear on the news if it blew up. She wanted to stay and see for herself, but she might get hit. That couldn't happen. She wouldn't be able to stop rivals from a hospital bed. Someone could steal her senpai from her without her even knowing. All she had to do was keep running. She took off the mask and threw it into a nearby bin, then carried on to her house.

At her house, she took a sigh of relief. No one had seen her. She went upstairs to her room to see if the gas station had caught fire.
Upstairs, Fallon could barely see the gas station from the window in the darkness. She could see the faint outline of smoke fading into the night. She assumed that they'd put out the fire she'd caused before the gas station caught fire and exploded. Fallon hadn't cared either way if it had exploded or not. It wasn't her senpai. She picked up the phone next to her and saw she had a message from Isabel. The message was a photo of her next rival. She put down her phone and looked out the window. She couldn't see any stars in the sky, all she could see was darkness. She thought of Noah. She wished she could see the stars with him. He had made stars in her cold, black sky, and she was determined to keep them there at all costs.
