"So," Nicholas speaks, looking up at me from under his dark eyelashes. "How long ago did you and Will break up?"

I choked on the chocolate dessert and spluttered before finally swallowing the honeycomb, washing it down with a long sip of water.

"Break up?" I stuttered breathlessly. "Will and I never dated, so there was nothing to break up from. What on Earth made you think that?"

Nicholas shrugged. "Just the fact that the guy knows practically everything about you," he explained, drinking his water. "And those longing looks are a huge giveaway."

"Am I that transparent?" I ask, the blush working its way onto my cheeks. "Do I really give him longing looks?"

There was a long pause.

"I was talking more about the longing looks he gives you," Nicholas says, leaning back into his chair. He folds his arms across his chest, a smirk trying desperately to hide the sadness in his eyes. "Does someone have a crush on Will Gregory, Evenstar?"
