The inevitable

It was an early morning and a month has passed, Zarkon woke up and expected her to be ok since she only had another month left. He saw she asleep and decided to leave her alone this time. About an hour went by and he knew she should be awake by now since she sleeps for a certain amount of hours before she muster up the strength to wake herself up due to her weakened state, but his heart stopped when he she was nowhere near awake and she looked super pale. He was terrified that she had gone in her sleep, all alone, but to wake her up, he gently shook her and she slowly woke up, her breathing was slow and her vision was foggy as she blinked multiple times.

"Zarkon?" She asked. He couldn't usher a word to her at all, he panicked and left the room, she couldn't get up at all. As he went to search for Ulaz he found him with everyone else. Delilah was the first to speak.

"What's wrong? You look as if you've seen a ghost." She said.

Ouch

"It's your mother. She can't get up." Zarkon explained.

Everyone's blood ran cold, Ulaz followed Zarkon to Elara and confirmed she was passing sooner than expected. Ulaz saw her as a good friend and this was hard for him since he knew Vetza would also be hit hard. He looked at Zarkon with a sad face.

"She's not going to last for much longer, it's time." Ulaz said sadly.

Ulaz left Zarkon alone with her so that he could have a moment with her before letting everyone else say goodbye. She knelt down at her side and painfully looked her in the eyes.

"I don't know what to say..." he mumbled.

"You don't have to say anything. It's written all over your face, I'm going to miss you too." Elara said, knowing exactly what he wanted to say.

"I didn't think you go like this, I never wanted you to go this way." Zarkon said sadly.

"The choice isn't in our hands. As much as I want to have more time, I can't. In the centuries we've been together, we did a lot for eachother. We gave each other family, managed each other's anger issues, and we've made each other happy. When I'm gone I want you to find somebody who will love you just as much as I do, I want you to be happy." Elara said, weakly smiling at him.

"I can't do that. Where would I ever find another you?" Zarkon said.

"In the end it's your choice. I just want to know that you'll be happy even without me being here with you, if you do fall in love again, I won't be upset, as long as your happy I'm happy." Elara said.

"Shush, I'm done remarrying, The first one was a psychopath and you are the real soulmate, I'm done searching." He said, feeling himself getting emotional, Elara saw his eyes welling up with tears and she started getting emotional.

After they cried together, everyone else, even the dogs were allowed in, Kosmo and Venus were there too. All six of Zarkon and Elara's children were the first ones to speak with mother. Zarkon held her hand and couldn't bring himself to let it go.

"Mom I- I don't what to say..." Bellatrix sniffled, already fighting back tears.

"It's ok. I know what you all would say." Elara said, her voice cracked a little.

"We love you mommy..." Delilah sniffled, she let her tears go a while ago.

"I love you all too, more than you'll ever know." Elara said and the kids carefully hugged her and backed off to let Sendak, Cressida, Capella, and Latzea have their turn.

"You four were always a group of pains in the ass. But I tolerated you. One of you is the closest friend I've had in a long time, the other is my knucklehead twin brother, and the other two are the best nieces I could ever ask for." Elara said.

"You made my life hell. Now that it won't be as chaotic, it'll ever feel the same again." Sendak said, his one real eye shedding some tears.

"Times like this really do bring out the Sendak I grew up with." Elara said, weakly chuckling.

"I don't know what I'll do without you Elara... Who's going to piss him off with me?" Cressida said, shedding tears like she never has before.

"I think your daughters will help you out with that for me." Elara said, looking at her nieces. Latzea and Capella nodded to their aunt as they silently cried. Elara shared a hug with them before looking at Vetza, Kryro, Shiro, and Keith.

"I can see that my kids love you guys dearly but if you hurt them I will haunt you for the rest of your lives, this is not a threat, this is a promise." Elara said seriously.

"We won't." Shiro said.

"We promise." Keith said.

"Never would I ever." Vetza said, a teary mess.

"I'd never hurt Delilah." Kryro said sadly.

"Good." Elara said and turned to Kolivan, Krolia, Antok, Ulaz, Thace, and Regris.

"You six are practically family as well, bring it in." Elara said, her voice a little quieter now. The blades for once couldn't muster up the courage to speak and hugged her instead.

The last remaining to say goodbye were the cosmic wolves and the two great danes. They sat by her and whined sadly understanding she would soon pass.

"You four better be good. Don't make anybody's lives difficult. You guys are the goodest boys and girls, without a doubt." Elara said, petting them each.

Now that everybody had their turn to say goodbye, she was starting to slip away even faster. Within another 5 minutes her breathing continued to slow. She couldn't hold on for much longer. Her golden eyes slowly shut and her breathing stopped. After 10,000 years of laughing, hardships, and endless love, Elara passed away peacefully.
