You Mad?
Patrick leaned his head on Pete's shoulder as they sat in Dallon and Breezy's backyard. The toddlers were blocked from the pool by a gate that kept them confined to the grass area of the space. They were waiting for the others to arrive. Dallon was actually cooking some food up on the barbeque as Breezy went back and forth between the house, checking on the kids, and sparking conversation with Patrick and Pete.
"Are you still mad?" Pete asked, softly. Breezy had just ran off from another short conversation.
Patrick took Pete's hand. "I'm not mad." He replied in a equally hushed voice, "I'm just quiet."
"You seem mad." Pete said.
Patrick turned his head, hiding his face in Pete's shoulder. "I'm not..."
Pete draped and arm around Patrick's shoulder. "I love you."
Patrick smiled against Pete's shirt. "I love you too." He mumbled. He meant it, he was still just unsure what to say. He still felt a bit of hurt over what happened, but he didn't want Pete to feel bad. He hated seeing Pete feel bad. Sometimes their relationship was complicated, but the fact that Patrick loved him always remained true.
Slowly, the others all arrived.
Ryan sat shivering in the grass next to Brendon, refusing his apology towel after being shoved into the pool. Spencer and Jon stood beside the barbeque, talking with Dallon as they sipped on beers. Alex was floating across the pool on a unicorn float that Jack kept running around the edge to push from side to side. Hayley sat in the grass with Max and Steven, placing blades of grass on top of Max's head.
Breezy came out of the house, looking slightly frazzled, but happy. She kissed Dallon on the cheek before walking across the yard to check on the toddlers.
"Eezy!" Natasha exclaimed, making a grabby hand motion towards her.
"Aw, she likes you." Pete laughed as Breezy picked her up.
"She's such a sweetheart." Breezy laughed. She kissed Natasha's cheek before setting her back down. Immediately, Natasha hurried over to where Ryan and Brendon sat just outside of her perimeter. Breezy turned to her own daughter, gesturing her over to lift her up. "You too, baby."
"You're such a good mom." Patrick smiled, "Not just to your baby, but ours too. I can't thank you enough for all the times you've watched her."
Breezy smiled. "Of course. I love kids and I'm always happy to help." She walked over, ruffled Patrick's hair, and made her way back towards Dallon.
Patrick shifted to look behind him. Ryan was holding Natasha up in the air, making faces as she giggled wildly. "I'm so glad I met you." He whispered, grabbing hold of Pete's hand. "I never would have imagined I could have had anything like this."
"Same, Punk." Pete smiled at him, "I don't want to picture my life without you."
Patrick turned to Pete. The look in his eyes just propelled Patrick to lean forward and connect their lips for the briefest moment. It would have been longer, but Dallon was calling for everyone's attention.
"Food's done!" He called, earning a cheer. "First, though, Breezy and I have something to say."
"Is it extra dessert?"
"No, Ryan."
"Carry on."
"We have some exciting news that we've been waiting to share with you." Breezy grinned. She grabbed Dallon's wrist and placed his hand over her stomach.
"Shut the hell up!" Hayley exclaimed, dropping the grass blades she was retrieving from Max's head right back onto his hair.
"Oh my god!" Ryan pulled Natasha close, earning giggles from the toddler.
"It's a boy!" Dallon added, absolutely beaming with the news.
"Finally!" Spencer held his beer up. "Dude, congrats!"
Everyone else also shared their congratulations, walking over to hug the couple and oodle over Breezy's stomach. Pete held back, waiting for the crowd to die down. Natasha hurried to him, grabbing his fingers. "Ada."
He smiled down at her. "Hey, Nat." He scooped her into his arms. She leaned against his shoulder with a yawn. "You tired?"
The toddler mumbled, loosely gripping his shirt. Pete just smiled, rocking from side to side. He watched Patrick excitedly congratulate Dallon and Breezy, remembering how he has been the first time they knew they were going to adopt Natasha.
It was like falling in love all over again.
