I was not sick but he was.
What did he even do to received this kind of sickness?
Destiny sure was cruel.
He does not deserve that.
He deserves a much happier life while playing soccer with the other children, running around without a single care in the world.
Yet here he was, stuck in a hospital, looking at the same scenery every single day.
"Hey Chiaki!" the heaviness of her heart dispersed hearing his voice was like a medication that could help the one who takes it.
Except, it really felt like it was some medicine. Even if it serves to help, it still contributes to the likeness of the sickness coming back with a stronger endurance to the medicine. Just like the tearful memories of him once he vanished in the world.
It was as if it done more harm than good. Chiaki couldn't think of a world without him. Because of this, she knew that she has to be ready of that fateful day.
"Soraru-chan to Earth? Hellooooo?" his face was practically inches away from her's.
"T-Taiyou-kun...!" she gasped and distanced herself from him. She could feel the blood rushing directly to her cheeks as she tried the best of her ability to look at other way than the one in front of her.
"Aw, why are you looking really red?" he laughed and crouched down, looking as if he was going to get something under his bed.
"Wh-what are you doing?" she took a few steps near him to get a sight of what he was trying to do under the hospital bed.
"Soccer ball!" he exclaimed with starry eyes as he stared at it.
"It looks...dirty?" her voice trailed off when she saw he was holding the ball in his hands. He really was a genius, going as far as to outsmart her.
"Taiyou-kun, please don't overwork yourself," she spoke with worry evident in her voice. Hearing this coming from Soraru seemed more reassuring than the people surrounding him in the hospital. Maybe because he could hear how sincere she voiced out her worry.
"Alright, alright, I won't get too tired, Soraru-chan," he placed a hand over her head and grinned affectionately.
"Come on, let's play soccer!" he took a hold of her hand and slowly opened the door, placing his hear over to the gap of the opened door. He scanned the area just to be extra careful not to get caught. He already knew the daily routine of the staff in the hospital, he just wanted to have an assurance that there was no unexpected schedule of at least one of the staff that might ruin his fun.
"Here is my happy place!" even if he kept on saying that this was his escape, she knew it must have felt suffocating. There were still walls that hinder him from seeing the bigger picture of the beautiful world.
"Don't think too much, Soraru-chan! All we need is soccer and all our worries will all be gone!" hearing this, she was alerted and quickly took ahold of his soccer ball. He scrunched his nose in slight annoyance.
'How did I not notice that? I must work harder!' he thought.
"Give the ball back, I get the first kick-off!" he reasoned and tried to reach for the ball but the white haired girl dodged his attempt rather easily.
"You have to promise that you won't overwork, Taiyou-kun."
"I can't promise you anything," the girl choked hearing this from her best friend. Numerous thoughts began to cloud her mind. The "What If's" and the "What If Not's" were always a hinder. Because of these thoughts, tears were forming by the lower corner of her beautiful sapphire eyes. Her lips quivered as she kept on being succumbed to darkness, her inner monster kept on feeding off from her overthinking.
"Soraru-chan?" his voice rang through the darkness of her conscious. Slowly, the dark abyss were draining away.
"Please don't overthink, I'll try my best to stop overworking myself, I promise," he crouched down to her vulnerable position and hugged her as tight as he could.
He kept of forgetting that his best friend was fighting her inner demon and it made his heart break into countless of pieces. To think he was trying to improve at the cost of his health deteriorating also costed for her to lose herself in the hands of overthinking.
"I'm sorry, Soraru-chan."
He did not realize he was Chiaki's only sun. The one who shone brightly so she may portray her greatest potentials. Without him, how could Chiaki be seen in the crowd full of people with more potential? She could not help but be dependent of the genius soccer player.
"N-no...it's my fault for causing you another useless problem, we were supposed to play soccer using this time but instead, I wasted your time and made a problem that doesn't have to exist!" she wept. Tears were still continuously flowing out from her eyes. She tried her best to stop but just the thought of actually causing yet another problem just frustrates her so much.
"It's okay, Soraru-chan. I understand what you're going through and I'm always here to listen to all your problems and I'll do the best my ability to take the burden from you."
