"Thanks, Appa. They surely will be amazed by this." Woojin smiled at the Karaoke machine his Dad had rented for his birthday party. "I only rented this under the condition that you go back to school on Monday. You had a long break now and I want you to do your KSATs. Don't forget that." Mr. Park spoke and Woojin nodded, while glancing at his wrist watch.
His friends were supposed to turn up in two hours. But Woojin only managed to install the Karaoke machine so far. He hadn't prepared any food nor (the secret alcohol and) fizzy drinks. His Dad would leave for a meeting with his friends in an hour so Woojin could snuck in some of the wine and beer his Father was hiding in the basement. But until then he had to prepare the snacks and fizzy drinks.
Woojin was excited.
He was excited to celebrate his birthday with his friends and especially with his crush, Gong Minjae. He couldn't wait to see her stupid cute face again and talk to her. But Hyeongseop had been weird whenever Woojin had asked about the cute classmate. He had cut him off with sentences like "She had been busy" or "I haven't actually seen her a lot". And Woojin was confused. Did something happen?
"Minjae?" Jinhye Gong yelled but her daughter didn't respond at all. "Minjae-ah!" Jinhye tried again, but Minjae still didn't reply. The student was sitting on her bed. Her legs crossed and a nicely wrapped present sitting on her lap. Her eyes were filled with tears, just thinking about Woojin's birthday.
Minjae was heartbroken.
Ever since Choa and Hyeongseop had told her that Woojin was living her dream of being a member of the Drama Club she hasn't been able to sleep properly. On one hand she had realised that it was true. Woojin was a Drama Club member but a tiny piece of her was hoping it was a lie.
But the way Hyeongseop had reacted and was towards her ever since the confession proved that it was true. Woojin had lied to her.
She sighed and set the present next to her before standing up from her bed and walking over to the mirror. If she was going to confront Woojin with the truth and her opinion about it, she wanted to at least, look hella fine. "Eomma!" She called and opened her door for her mother. "Mind helping me get ready for Woojin's party?" She asked with a fake smile on her lips and her mother nodded, knowing her daughter wasn't being as happy as she looked like.
Woojin grinned at Jihoon's words when the doorbell rang. "Those must be the others." Jinyoung, who was munching on a wiener, mumbled and Woojin nodded, a big smile spreading on his lips with the thought of Minjae coming over. Jihoon and Jinyoung exchanged a glance, knowing of what had happened between Minjae and Hyeongseop.
But even those two gaped their mouths open when they opened the door and saw Gong Minjae standing in front of them.
And she looked ... hot.
"Whoa, Minjae!" Jinyoung gulped when she looked down and moved her wavy hair out of her face, showing the boys her pretty blue contact lenses. "I went a little over the top with the make-up I guess." She chuckled before looking at Woojin and stopped smiling.
She handed him the present. "Happy Birthday", she said and Woojin nodded, still strucked by her appearance. "C-Come in?" He stuttered and Minjae entered the house, kicking off her boots and following the boys into Woojins bedroom.
Minjae bit her lip. How was she supposed to start talking about what had happened? Woojin seemed geniously happy that she was there. And how often are you supposed to become eighteen? Was it stupid of her to come to his party when she actually was super sad because of him?
Was she able to destroy his birthday because she was sad?
Halfway up the stairs she stopped in her tracks and looked at her socks. She couldn't ruin his birthday. She wasn't that type of person. But she wanted to clear things between her and Woojin so she put her own feelings down and looked up. "Woojin, I need to talk to you."
Woojin looked down to Minjae, realising she hadn't walked up the stairs like he, Jinyoung and Jihoon did. Jihoon looked at Minjae, aware of what she wanted to talk about. "Sure?" Woojin smiled and jumped down to Minjae. "You guys can already go to my room." Woojin smiled and walked back downstairs with Minjae.
"What is it?" He asked with a smile. "Why didn't you tell me you were a Drama Club member?"
Woojin expected everything. But not that. He looked down. "How did you?" - "I was fighting with Choa and she got angry and told me. Then she called over Hyeongseop who confirmed it. Why didn't you tell me?" She asked again, more fierce this time. Woojin gulped.
"I thought you'd be sad that I-" - "Of course I am sad! And I am angry that you lied to me about it!" Her voice was becoming louder and Woojin couldn't concentrate. She looked stunning, but tears were running down her cheeks. He wanted to comfort her but he knew it wasn't allowed.
"The stage!" Minjae yelled. "That's where I should stand! You are taking the only thing I love away from me!" Minjae crossed her arms in front of her chest and Woojin blew up his cheeks. It wasn't his choice! Minjae should understand this. But she couldn't. She was way too angry. "It's not my fault I ended up on the freaking stage!" Woojin yelled back and earned a hard push from Minjae that almost send him flying on the floor.
He somehow caught himself and looked at Minjae with widened eyes. "Get yourself together, Minjae!" He screamed and walked back to her, grabbing her shoulders. "I know you are angry at me for hiding the truth but I was embarrased that I got casted because I pushed Hyeongseop and you tried so so hard. I am sorry that I did that." Woojin forced Minjae to look at him.
She still tried to look away, but Woojin caught her attention with his following words. "Truthfully, today I planned on confessing my love to you."
