Between the victors of District 10 was a silent agreement, one that neither would be willing to break upon the honor of their home and friends. They were victors, and now tributes once more. They would stay together, till the end reached them and they were free from the grasp of the Capitol.
Terra and Lux did not need allies, they had told themselves, they did not want to rely on anyone else. Though she wished she could run off and remain with Finnick, she knew that such a thing would be impossible as they had people that were depending on their performance.
She could not see a scenario where she could hold his hand freely without fear of what would happen to those on the outside.
It was why she was silent when she and Lux walked into the training certain, her hair tugged into a bun to proudly display her District number to those that dared forget. She looked tinier in the tight suit that they put her in, her arms appeared frail and gentle. She did not miss the looks that she received from the career pack, those that had the kind those that had the kinds of muscles that bulged in a showing fashion.
Shrugging them off, she scanned the rest of the room- Lux standing close behind her, his own muscles flexing. Katniss and Peeta were held close together trying to distance themselves from the group; Finnick stood with Mags, a grinning Johanna standing close by.
Terra responded with a small smile of her own, pushing past the people in her way and sidled up beside her friend. Their hands linked briefly, a small squeeze of recognition before they released each other and focused on the people that stood up front explaining the rules that they already knew- as though it was something they would forget.
She stood still as they all split, individuals moving off to learn a new skill or show off something that they already knew. Lux remained behind her, quietly urging her to assert herself as a threat to the people that doubted her.
Glancing at the different stations, she saw Johanna playing around with a few axes trying to intimidate a few people; the careers were flashing off their control over their own choice weapons. Katniss was bent over some rope, knot tying with Mags, Finnick was close by, shooting the archer continuous glances.
Envy sparked in her chest, jealously bounding with each increased beat of her heartrate as she grew angrier. This was the kind of man that he was but she did not enjoy seeing him act like this in front of her.
Curling her hands into tight little fists, she made her way across the room to a remote corner that held different herbs to choose categories. She spent most of her time there, occasionally moving over to a place that spoke of different animals- an area where she and Lux excelled with incredible speed.
They were so set on ignoring everyone else that she nearly missed the show that Katniss was putting on with a bow and arrow. The other tributes surrounded her, watching in barely controlled awe at her aim and the way she moved around swiftly.
Her jaw clenched as the girl finished, breathing in soft pants as Finnick gave her his full attention. Terra huffed, spinning away and going straight a section of the room with an assortment of weapons. She hesitated, fingers brushing of the silver whip that was tipped with a dangerous point at the end- the one thing hers at home did not posses. A part of her wanted to use it, to display her lithe and fluent movements with a weapon that most would laugh at, though she knew that she needed something much more harsh and violent.
Turning away, she caught the eye of a few people as she picked up a beautifully crafted square-headed lump hammer. It tugged her arm down as she lifted it and Terra respond with swinging it back and forth to familiarize herself with the weight of the thing. Most of the weight rested in the ends of the large metal piece, leaving the leather strap comfortable to use- fitting perfectly in her hand.
Looking up, she caught the eye of the Gamemaker, a tiny smile on his face that she returned with a smirk knowing they had left this out for her as it was clearly too small for Lux to even consider.
Rolling her wrist, she took off to the small section that set up holographic opponents. The hammer swung at her side- the weapon catching the light a few times.
"Decided to show off then? You're growing for a brutal show," Johanna remarked casually, shouting to her from across the room.
"Lux has been pressuring me since we arrived, the guy doesn't want to go for weapon training unless I do," she called back, a soft lilt to her voice that made her eyes look even larger than they really were. "Plus, I need to send out a message to a few people, I hope they can decipher it though."
The high laughter of Johanna sounded around the room accompanied by the sound of weapons dropping. The District 7 girl quickly standing up front for a good show.
"Do I even wanna know?"
"Probably not, but he might want to pay attention before I take this hammer to his head," Terra mumbled, shooting a glare over at the golden boy at Katniss' side.
"Have fun!"
Punching a few buttons, Terra stood in the center of a pedestal. It grew dark, the area lighting up with a few things she could only determine to be obstacles for her. She flipped the hammer, catching it easily and holding it at the ready.
Images flickered, people running out toward her- one from the back and two from the front. Shifting a foot behind her, she swung the weapon back in an arc, using the momentum of the swing to dodge the orange blade that shot out at her. Kicking out a foot to the one that had been behind her, she smashed the hammer into his head causing him to fall to pieces.
Facing the other two that were directly in front of her now, she swung in an arc directly into its head as it tried to punch, pivoting in time to catch the chest of the other hologram.
Jumping from the pedestal, she slid across the ground and under the legs of a figure preparing to through a spear. She pushed to her feet in a swift movement- remembering ever time she had slid down the hill at home in the same fashion as a kid- and slammed the back of the hammer into its neck, its head shattering and crumbling to the floor.
It continued on, Terra jumping and running around the space as she angrily took out every opponent in the quickest and harshest way possible. Her movement only stilled as she came up to a clear man that a trident at the ready.
She heaved a few breaths, recognizing the size and stature to be that of Finnick. Waiting for him to attack first, moved back with every lunge of the three-pronged weapon. Once a distance was achieved, she waited for him to throw, knowing that her Finnick would never actually miss a shot, she dived towards the ground, her shoulders slamming heavily against the ground as she rolled forward and back onto her feet- hammer swinging up and directly into the chin knocking the head back. He shattered before he hit the ground.
Expecting to have finished already, Terra looked around in confusion until she caught a flicker of orange. Barely dodging the arrow that would have landed in throat.
Each of her opponents were clearly based on one of the tributes present, Katniss coming last as the holographic girl stood a good distance away, up on a ledge that gave her the advantage with her long-range weapon.
Knowing that people were watching her from just outside of the little world, she did not want to be seen losing to one of the youngest people here, more so since Finnick was spending all his times with her.
It was different while in the games, pairing up as a team could be dangerous but it did not mean two perceived friends could not spend what ought to be their final days together.
A small snarl sounded in her chest, similar to that of the wolves they fought to keep out back home. Terra waited for the archer hologram to move from behind a pillar and line up a shot.
Taking a chance, she pushed a few feet forward quickly and launched her hammer through the air- watching it flip as it cut through the arrow and landed in fake-Katniss' chest.
Feeling triumphant, she felt her hair checking if her bun was messed up too much during her moving around. Her face was blank, a childish innocence planted over her features as she looked out to the people the had stopped to watch her.
Johanna was jumping around laughing, patting Finnick hard on the back as he looked to the place that the trident figure once stood. She shot him a glare, turning the icy-look to Katniss.
"That was relaxing," she stated, Johanna snickering as her laughs died down. Together the girls made off to other sections, teasing each other softly and speaking of the things that had occurred since they had last seen one another.
Lux stuck with them, more comfortable now with his knives knowing that the two of them did not want to keep their skill level a secret like a few other were attempting. The man was a silent shadow, sticking by her side giving her the sense that she still had control was not going to crumble under the tortures that her mind occasionally subjected her to.
"They were actually speaking to you then? After all this time?" Johanna whispered, struggling to free her fingers from a horrible knot she created. "You shouldn't have let them. They can only hurt you more when you have someone that you care about."
"I know, but I wasn't just going to say no," Terra's reply was just as soft, a grunt mixing with her words as she tried to pry her friend from the rope.
Despite the girl's blunt nature and firm attitude, Terra didn't mind the rude exterior of her friend, even if the girl tried hard to be softer spoken and consider her words more when together. It was a firm belief among many of the people that knew her, they all believed her to be gentle with fragile emotions - not remembering how violent she could be when she wants to, or how long she's spent on her own.
"I guess I was being selfish, I can see that now but I just wanted to spend time with them," she muttered. "I didn't expect to get sent back here, of all things. I didn't do anything wrong. I followed his dumb rules."
"None of us did anything," her friend bit back. "He just wants to show that he has control over us."
Shooting a glance around her, she leaned in closer to the other girl - ignoring how her fingers started to burn from constantly pulling at the rope.
"Actually, the results of the last games caused a lot of outrage all over. My District had been up in arms and I'm sure the other ones are as well," her voice dropped, lips barely moving as she spoke quickly. "It's because of Katniss and Peeta, the duo is trying to pretend that they're in love - or at least Katniss is and she's not very good at it. It's probably why were all here again, because her poor spectacle didn't work in subduing the nation."
"How do you know that?" Johanna snapped, a few people turning to look at them.
Terra shushed her, pulling the other girl closer. "We shared a meal with her at my district and I gave her a bit of advice but that clearly didn't work. Plus, I know what love looks like. It's how Peeta looks at her, how I look at Finnick, how my brother looks at his wife. She constantly looks frazzled, forced in her movements and jumpy. She at least be comfortable around him but she isn't."
"So, what? it's there fault we're here?"
"Yeah, Jo, I think it is."
