part nine
yes, i realize that is fanart of Tim, but ignore that pls and pretend it is Jason bc that is what his suit looks like.
"Oh, my god. It is perfect!" Jason cheered, pulling his suit out of the tailor box.
"Go try it on." Selina ushered Jason to his bedroom, waiting patiently on the couch as Jason got changed.
Jason came out a moment later in his suit, goggles up on top of his head. He twirled for Selina. "Well? What do you think?"
Selina smiled at Jason, standing up. "I think we are going to make quite the thieving duo, kitten."
Jason beamed back. "Does that mean - "
"Yes, Jason. You get to come with me on tonight's heist. Although, I still can't believe you already have a best friend after being at school for a week." Selina joked.
"Hey! I am very likable." Jason shot back.
"I am just teasing. Though I would like to meet this...what was their name again?"
"Tim Drake." Jason watched something flash across Selina's eyes. "Do you know him?"
"I know his custodian." Selina hummed, heading towards her bedroom.
"You know Bruce Wayne?" Jason called through the closed door. "Is he as pompous of an ass as he looks?"
Selina emerged from the room in her Catwoman costume. "Jay, don't judge people before you meet them." She walked towards the balcony, opening the door and stepping out. "Now come on, we have some jewels to steal."
"Woohoo!" Jason yelled, following after Selina as she made her way to the rooftop.
The duo raced across the rooftops, the smile never leaving Jason's face as he chased after Selina. He did a flip from one roof to a lower roof, causing Selina to shake her head fondly. They continued on their way towards their destination, reaching the roof of the appraiser's office in no time.
Selina turned to Jason, motioning to the fire escape. "This way."
Jason followed after Selina as she slunk down the fire escape, crouching in front of the window. Raising one of her hands, claws extended out from the fingertips and she got to work cutting the glass on the window, making a hole big enough for the duo to make their way in.
Stepping inside the appraiser's office, she nodded to one half of the room and Jason got the hint, making his way over there. He began rummaging through the file drawers, hearing Selina take a seat. Turning around with a curious expression, he saw Selina sitting in the appraiser's chair, arms crossed behind her head as she watched Jason. He gawked at her. "Are you not going to help me?"
She shrugged. "It is your first mission. I figured I'd let you have the fun."
Jason smiled. "I'm touched, really." Selina grinned back, motioning with her hands for him to get back to work. Jason turned back to the cabinets and continued his rummaging. "You know, I've been thinking -"
"Thought I smelt something burning." Selina snickered when Jason glared at him. "Sorry, kitten, you left yourself wide open for that one."
"It's true." Jason shrugged. "Anyways, about my name."
"You mean Jason? What's wrong with it?" Selina furrowed her brow, taking her feet off the desk.
"No, I mean...you know how you are Catwoman when dressed like this?" Selina nodded. "I've been thinking about my name."
"Ooh, do tell."
Jason smiled, closing one drawer and going to the next. "I think I want to go by Magpie."
Selina nodded again, standing up. "Wasn't there already a Magpie?"
"Yeah, they died." Jason said bluntly. "I checked."
"Morbid, but okay."
"It serves a double purpose, you see? I am a thief and here I am stealing another thief's name." Selina raised a brow. "And also, I figured it would get on Robin's nerves."
"Why do you want to get on Robin's nerves?"
"He is an asshat." Jason mumbled.
Selina slunk up next to Jason. "When did you meet Robin, kitten?" Jason mumbled something. "Sorry, I couldn't quite catch that."
Jason sighed. "Remember that time I went out on my own while you were heisting?" Selina stared at him. "I ran into Robin...while I was in the middle of almost being mugged."
Selina gaped at Jason. "Why didn't you tell me? Are you alright?"
Jason nodded. "Yeah, m'fine."
Selina wrapped her arms around him, pulling him in for a hug. "Good. I don't know what I'd do if I were to lose you."
Jason hugged back. "You're not going to lose me, you adopted me. You are now stuck with me, whether you like it or not."
Selina chuckled at that. "Well, I like Magpie, but it doesn't really go with the cat theme I have going. What about Sphynx?"
Jason rolled it around in his mouth for a moment. "Hm. not bad."
"There it is!" Selina exclaimed, pulling out a jewel from one of the drawers compartments. She looked to Jason with a wide grin. "What do you say we get home with this, yeah? We can discuss your name on the way?"
Jason nodded, taking the jewel from Selina and slipping it in his pocket before following Selina out the window once more. They made their way to the roof, stopping in their tracks when they saw Batman and Robin standing on the roof.
Jason snorted. "Were you two waiting up here the entire time? Stalkers."
Robin narrowed his eyes at Jason. "Who are you supposed to be?"
Selina smirked at Jason. "This is my partner, Magpie."
Robin instantly bristled. "Wasn't there already a Magpie?"
"Wasn't there already a Robin?" Jason shot back. "Looks like we are both thieves."
Batman stared at Selina. "Put whatever you took back."
She pursed her lips. "Mm, I don't think so." She turned to Jason and winked. "Just like we met?"
He got the message instantly. "You know it."
Selina pulled out her whip and sharpened her claws, running at Batman and Robin. Jason instantly ducked off the roof and down the fire escape, running through the streets of Gotham while Selina fought with the dynamic duo.
"Dragging innocent children into your way of life? Really Catwoman?" Robin snarled.
"You're just jealous I chose him and you got stuck with such a stick in the mud." Selina shot back, ducking under Batman's swing.
"Speaking of Magpie, where'd he go?" Robin asked, jumping out of the way of Catwoman's whip.
"I told him to head home, just like when we first met." Selina slashed Batman across the face, jumping back to the edge of the roof. "Speaking of home, I really should go check on my son, make sure he is okay."
Batman faltered in his step. "S-son?"
Selina winked, leaping off the roof to head in the opposite direction of her home. Robin went to pursue, only for Batman to stop him. "Batman, why? We can easily get her!"
Batman narrowed his eyes after the feline thief. "Let's call it a night."
"But B - "
"That's an order." Batman growled.
Back at the Kyle apartment, Jason was pacing back and forth, waiting for Selina to return home. After twenty minutes of waiting, she finally stepped in through the balcony. Jason ran up to her. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine, kitten." She smiled at him. "So, how was your first heist?"
He beamed at her. "It was so cool! I mean, the rush of fighting against Batman and Robin and coming out on top? It was such a thrill, mom!"
Selina watched Jason freeze and she smiled at him once more, pulling him into a hug and kissing his head. "It is such a thrill, isn't it? Don't worry, Jason, there will be more to come."
Jason nodded against her, hugging her back tightly. He couldn't believe how lucky he had gotten.
