Jungkook couldn't contact or meet Taehyung after that since Taehyung changed his number and neither did he have any idea of where Taehyung could possibly be. They hadn't even talked properly in the short amount of time they spent with each other and now Jungkook was totally in the dark regarding the whereabouts of the younger.

As soon as Taehyung reached Seoul he talked himself into forgetting about Jungkook and kept himself occupied with excessive working so that he doesn't have a single spare second to think about anything other than work.

The next time Jungkook and Taehyung came across each other was the biggest test of Taehyung's patience. After all that time of keeping himself away from the thoughts of Jungkook, Taehyung once again ran into the older after a few months at a hospital.

Taehyung had bruised himself slightly on his arm when he was moving a few things in his room. After getting his arm bandaged and taking some painkillers he was on his way out when some people rushed past him, taking someone on a stretcher. Taehyung moved back immediately leaving the area clear for them to move as he watched the woman on the stretcher screaming in pain. It was obvious she was in labor.

Taehyung watched them run into the ward and turned around to leave but stopped in his tracks. The woman looked somewhat familiar but he wasn't sure.

/It can't be./

Taehyung turned back around slowly and watched the people standing outside the surgery. The two men standing there didn't seem familiar to him at all. But he thought that maybe he couldn't tell from the back. So Taehyung walked past them to see them up close.

/Nope. Not him./

Taehyung walked back to leave when a man came running in and passed Taehyung.

"Where is she? Is she okay?" He asked the men Taehyung had just checked and they just pointed towards the surgery.

"She's inside."

And after that they left him. Taehyung just stood there watching the guy who just came in as he paced in front of the door of the surgery and all that effort of the previous months vanished when the same pain of the past came back to him.

/Jungkook?/

Taehyung smiled sadly as he realized what he just witnessed. Jungkook was going to be a father soon and Taehyung could only stand to watch it from the side line.

/I guess I did lose, after all./

Taehyung wanted to turn away and leave but he couldn't. He couldn't stop staring at the guy he finally fell for worrying about someone else. The true feeling of defeat washed over him and Taehyung felt weak. There were no tears in his eyes this time when he felt the pain. He just became numb. The taste of losing was new to him and he didn't expect it to be so bitter that it would leave him frozen.

Taehyung was lost in his thoughts when the doctor came out and Jungkook rushed over to him.

"What happened?"

The doctor looked at him sternly as he talked.
"Are you her guardian?"

Jungkook nodded.

"Yes. I'm her husband, Jeon Jungkook."

"Well, you have to make decision now, Mr. Jeon. We can only save one of them. So please tell us quickly."

Jungkook's shoulders slumped at the words of the doctor and he immediately shook his head.

"No. Save both of them. Not one. Both of them."

Jungkook was freaking out and his hands were shaking so visibly that even Taehyung could see them.

"I know how hard it is but you must understand we can't save both of them. Please decide quickly. There isn't much time."

Jungkook tugged at his hair in frustration as he breathed raggedly while arguing with the doctor.

Taehyung couldn't stand it anymore and walked over to him. He gestured the doctor to a side and told him to do his best with both but if need be then save the woman. The doctor nodded and went inside without another word.

Taehyung waited for the doctor to leave and when he did, Taehyung turned Jungkook around and pulled him in a hug. Jungkook was yet unaware of the person hugging him but he still welcomed the warmth as he wrapped his arms around him and buried his face in the other's neck.

Taehyung didn't know what he was supposed to say so he kept silent as he rubbed Jungkook's back in circles while Jungkook shivered in his embrace. When he calmed down a bit, Jungkook pulled back to thank the stranger but froze at the sight of Taehyung smiling at him softly.

"Tae?"

Taehyung's chest tightened at the nick but he didn't try to push the feeling away. He had already lost so there was no point in fighting anymore.

"It's okay. Don't worry. Everything will be alright." Taehyung completely dropped the words he wanted to actually say and instead said what Jungkook needed to hear.

Jungkook couldn't decide what to feel about it. He was happy to see Taehyung, he was worried about his wife and his child, he was feeling guilty about having Taehyung to comfort him about it when he knew Taehyung loved him. All those mixed emotions were making him confused and he couldn't find the next words.

Taehyung didn't make him more confused as he tried to change the topic.

"Do you want to eat something?" Jungkook shook his head but said nothing. Taehyung nodded at him as he sat him down and turned to get something anyway. Even if Jungkook said he didn't want anything, he still wanted to get him something.

Jungkook thought Taehyung was leaving him again so he immediately grabbed the younger's arm to stop him making Taehyung hiss as he turned.

"Ah-sssss."

Jungkook let go instantly and apologized as he stood up in panic.

"I'm sorry. Are you hurt?"

Taehyung smiled at him as he waved his hand in dismissal.

"It's nothing serious."

Taehyung rubbed his arm slightly as he started walking again but Jungkook stopped him once again.

"Please don't leave."

Taehyung hurt at his heart again but he still smiled back at Jungkook.

"I'm just getting something to eat for us."

/Us? There's no 'us'./

Jungkook 'oh-ed' and sat back down after nodding and Taehyung left. He came back after a while and Jungkook stood up immediately when he saw him.

"I thought you weren't coming back."

Taehyung felt pain again but he smiled again as well as he came up and sat next to Jungkook.

Taehyung didn't want to engage Jungkook in any sort of talk about the past so he stayed quiet. While Jungkook had so many things to ask him but he couldn't decide what to ask first. Plus the tension about his wife was overwhelming him greatly.

After sitting silently for about ten minutes, Taehyung spoke up.

"You look like you haven't slept for days. Why don't you take a nap for a while?" Jungkook shook his head immediately.

"No I can't go home. I can't leave her li-" He stopped himself when he realized who he was saying that to but Taehyung didn't let him feel the pain it caused him as he quickly retorted seemingly unfazed by Jungkook's words.

"Just rest your eyes, here, for while. You already have bags under them."

Jungkook looked at Taehyung for a second and then at the door of the surgery before nodding. He sank a little in his seat and folded his arms on his chest as he closed his eyes. Taehyung sneaked a glance at him and saw how peaceful Jungkook looked.

/So close yet so far./

Taehyung wanted to caress his face but just smiled to himself and looked back ahead.

"Don't leave me, please."

Taehyung turned aside when he heard Jungkook's words and saw his eyes still closed.

"I won't."

/I can't./

Jungkook fell asleep soon after, obviously because he was tired. When Taehyung was sure Jungkook was sound asleep he pulled his head towards him to put it on his shoulder. Jungkook shifted slightly and moved closer to Taehyung making the younger bite his lip.

The warmth of Jungkook on Taehyung's shoulder lasted for about half an hour or so before the surgery door opened and Taehyung tapped Jungkook's cheek slightly as he mumbled.

"The doctor's here." Jungkook immediately shot up and rubbed his face as he reached the doctor who looked very somber.

"Can I see her now?"

Taehyung walked up and stood beside Jungkook as they waited for the doctor to speak up.

"I'm sorry. We tried our best but she couldn't make it."

Jungkook froze there so Taehyung asked the next question in his place instead.

"And the child?"

The doctor sighed as he shook his head.

"He only survived for a few minutes but he was too weak to make it further. I'm really sorry for your loss."

With that the doctor left and Jungkook almost dropped to his feet but Taehyung caught him just in time.

"They are.. gone?"
