chapter one
Day one
LILIANA AND TORY SAT SIDE BY SIDE AS THEY listened to the sensei's of Cobra Kai speak. From what she could tell, most of the people that were there could fight well but, they didn't have the aggressiveness that her or Tory had in fights. They didn't have the power, or drive.
She figured if she tried hard enough, she could kick any of their asses.
"Which one of you has the balls to take on the champ?" The man, named Sensei Lawrence asked, looking around the room.
Liliana was about to stand up but, instead, her best friend did, and she was more than okay with letting her go first.
Tory always put up a good fight, the best fights really.
"I'll take him on." The blonde spoke, everyone turning around to look at her, obviously surprised.
"Oh, you will, huh?" Sensei Lawrence asked in disbelief.
"We uh, we saw your little demo at valley fest. You guys can put on a show." Lilliana got up as her best friend spoke, the girls standing side by side. "Can you actually fight?"
"Something tells me no." The Anderson girl added on, folding her arms over her chest.
"That sounds like a challenge." The blonde man narrowed his eyes at the girl. "Mr.Diaz, you'll take on blondie, and after, Hawk, you'll go against curly here. I'm sure you'll show them what Cobra Kai was about."
What they didn't know was, this pair loved a challenge.
The group all spread out, allowing Tory and Miguel to walk to the middle of the floor. Liliana, cool as a cucumber, leaned against the wall with her arms folded across her chest. She knew this would be an entertaining fight, and she was intrigued to see how Tory and "the champ" matched up to each other.
"Are you sure you want to—" the Diaz boy didn't even get to finish his sentence before the blonde kicked him in the stomach and made him stumble back.
The pair continued to go toe to toe for a few more seconds, each gaining a hit or dodge one after the other. Finally, Tory knocked Miguel down to the ground and stepped on his chest lightly but, just as Liliana was about to cheer, Miguel flipped her onto the ground too. The Anderson girl sighed and placed her hand on her face, knowing "sensei" was probably gonna make some side comment about how they talked shit without backing it up.
Then, catching everyone by surprise yet again, Tory flipped him onto the ground and held him down.
"That's my girl!" Lil yelled, everyone else in the room clapping for her.
The blonde walked over to the wall, giving Liliana a quick high five, obviously proud of herself.
"Alright, Hawk, Curly, on the mats." Sensei Lawrence instructed, both teens following orders. "Bow."
Liliana made direct eye contact with Hawk, and still didn't understand everyone at school's mixed feelings for him. By the look in his eyes, he was a scared boy, trying not to be scared. She could handle that, she's handled much worse before.
"You're going down." He spoke, cracking his neck and stretching his back in the most awkward manor.
Lils nose scrunched up at the way it looked and rolled her eyes, sticking a middle finger up at him before she got into fighting stance.
"Go!" Johnny yelled.
Hawk was the first to lunge forward, Liliana bending backwards to dodge his hit. She then leapt forward and kicked him directly in the stomach, launching him back. It seemed to make him angry, cause this time he came back, running directly at her.
He landed a punch to her arm, then swept her leg making her fall to the ground.
"I told you i'd beat you." The boy said confidently, reaching down to help her up. "You're kinda cute, by the way."
"Thank you." Liliana spoke, wearing the fakest smile she could as she took his hand tightly, and pulled him to the ground.
She flipped over, and landed directly on top of him, punching him in the chest.
"Now who beat who, Hawky?" She grinned and pat him on the chest before getting up to her feet, everyone around her clapping.
From across the room, she made eye contact with Tory, both of them grinning at each other.
They knew they made an impression.
AFTER CLASS HAD ENDED THE GIRLS WENT TO THE convenient store for a few snacks. Liliana planned to pick some up for Rebekah, who she knew was probably hungry. The little girl reminded her so much of herself, it was insane, and she swore she'd always protect her.
No matter what it took.
"Lemme guess, dick pic?" Tory questioned as she spoke to Aisha, one of the girls from Cobra Kai who looked extremely frustrated.
"No, my mom wants me to go to the beach club with her." The girl explained, almost as if that was a bad thing.
"Oh my god, i'd just die." Lil turned around as she went to grab a drink and lightly rolled her eyes.
"Sounds miserable." Tory added on but, she was joking, it was obvious her friend wasn't.
"No, it's just... this girl Sam's probably gonna be there, and she and I are not on the best terms. Whatever, i'm Aisha by the way." The Robinson girl explained as Liliana busied herself with finding snacks.
"I'm Tory, this is Lil." The blonde introduced, a light smile on her face.
The Anderson girl simply nodded her head at the girl as an introduction, she made a lot harder for people to get to know her, it was easier for her that way, no need to get close, no need to explain how awfully miserable her life is.
"Cool bracelets." Aisha pointed to the matching spiked bracelets the girls had on their wrists. Lil had given one to Tory for her birthday when she turned 15, and ever since then it had been used to protect each other from anyone who tried to het near them.
"Oh, this? It isn't just for show. Some creepy guy at the mall tried to grab me once, but, I managed to block him, and give him a new gift he'd never forget." The blonde motioned her hand exactly how if had happened, leaving the other girl in awe:
"What Tory is trying to say is, she's a badass." Liliana put everything she needed onto the counter with a sigh, as they all kept talking.
She had a limit when talking to other people, and she was currently reaching it.
"What about you? Are you a badass?" Aisha asked, holding onto the strap of her book bag.
"Are you questioning me, b—" Tory stopped Lil from stepping forward as she placed a hand on her chest.
"I'm just asking, I think you're both pretty cool." The girl explained with a smile, automatically making the Anderson girl feel bad.
0 to 100 was her only setting.
"Sorry, I just get kinda defensive." Lilliana smiled lightly. "and no, i'm not a badass."
"She's being modest, Lil is totally a badass." Tory confirmed with a grin.
"Well, it seems like you are both good at fighting, why do you need Cobra Kai?" Aisha questioned with the tilt of her head.
"I think Cobra Kai needs us more than we need them." Liliana spoke confidently as she paid for her snacks.
"Do you guys maybe wanna like... come to the beach club with me?" The Robinson girl asked nervously.
"I guess I could suffer from a day at the beach." Tory answered with a grin.
"I'd love to but I can't, got someone at home I gotta check in on." Lil smiled at her best friend.
"You have fun, i'll check on everyone at your place too."
Liliana knew Tory deserved some time off, and she was happy to give it to her.
LIL SIGHED AS SHE EXITED THE DOJO, ANNOYED that she had forgotten her duffle bag and had to walk all the way back. She was half way home by the time she realized her mistake, and it took forever to walk home from the dojo. If she could've, she would have ordered an uber but, it costed far too much.
"Piece of shit bag." She mumbled, stuffing be bag of snacks she had bought earlier into it.
The red duffle was years old, worn, and torn with a few holes but, it was all she had, and it seemed to be the only one she was ever going to be able to use.
"Hey, you. What the hell are you doing back here?" Hawk called out as he walked out of one of the stores in the strip mall.
"You mean, this dojo? After I kicked your ass?" Liliana shrugged, "I came to get my bag, and i'm going now, Hawky. No need to worry about getting hurt again."
"Hey, I went easy on you cause you're a girl, don't let it go to your head." The Hawked boy explained with a shrug. "I'm way better than you at karate, and I always will be."
Lil took in a deep breath and stepped as close as she could to the boy, narrowing her eyes.
"I've been through hell and back, and i've fought my whole life. While you are busy bullying a girl, instead of working on your karate, she's gonna get better than you." She laughed, in almost an evil way. "But, whatever helps you sleep at night, Hawky. I'm sure you'll always be better."
She placed a hand on his face, and patted it lightly, making the Moskowitz boy grit his teeth.
"You have a nice night, now." Liliana smiled at him and turned on her heel, carefully throwing her bag over her shoulder.
Nobody was going to fuck with her, not even "Hawk".
