Chapter 2
Nightmares, every damn night. They never go away.
I unlocked my phone, a text from Shavo, asking to stop by his house later today. Why not, he could help me get back to my feet.
It was past noon, I usually wake up around 2 or 3 pm, my sleep schedule is pretty messed up. I picked up my pants and slipped them on, a black shirt to match and my hat to top it off. I headed to the bathroom to do the normal things everyone does, brush my teeth, put some cologne. Same cycle every day. My keys, phone and cigarettes all in my pocket, I set off for Shavo's house. He lived about 25 minutes away, maybe I'll get some inspiration while on the road.
-
I knocked on Shavo's door, he answered fairly quickly. The house was empty, his family must be gone.
"Hey bro, How's it going?" He said patting my back, Shavo always treated me like his younger brother. I am the youngest in the band, but Shavo has always actually felt like a brother.
"It's alright, nothing much has been happening. How about you?" I said sitting down on his couch.
"Ah nothing going on here either. Same old. Sonia is out with the kids, I didn't know what to do. Glad you're here though" He crossed his leg over.
"I appreciate it, I needed to get outta the house." My voice went quiet.
"Have you heard anything from Serj recently? He's coming to LA this weekend right?" Shavo asked.
"Yeah, I got plans with him" My arm twitched.
"Written anything new recently?" Shavo got up and grabbed a couple beers popping the caps and handing one to me.
"Um no not really... I've been kinda, outta ideas... No inspiration. How about you?" I took a sip.
"Yeah I have a couple songs actually, I still have yet to record them and stuff" Shavo pointed at his recording room.
"I can help you, if you'd like." I offered.
"Sweet, yeah." Shavo stood up sipping his beer and walked towards his recording room.
I walked into the room with him and grabbed his guitar, not the first time I've borrowed it. I plugged it into the amp and he started running over the songs we wrote and picked up his bass. After I strummed the first string, chills rushed up my body. This studio is my home away from home.
It felt good to be doing something I love with someone I appreciate. Shavos songs were very up beat and had an Armenian zest to it all, another song we went over was very futuristic sounding, minimal sound that filled in the void and made the song sound busy. Shavo truly has a talent for creating music and other forms of art.
Hopefully we can release these some day.
Maybe the world will enjoy it.
