『Act I • Side A』
CHAPTER FIVE

✨🌙🔮🌙✨

The dream doesn't leave June even the night when she figures out the truth. It was the very same: her stranded on a clear full moon night, the starless sky blanketing half her face and in front of her, Scott McCall crouches on both knees, snarling as his ruby red eyes over-shine the moonlight and fear bites at her again. She woke up in the middle of the night that morning, soaking in her own sweat as she breathed heavily, begging for some air into her lungs.

June wouldn't say that she had handled the news of her being a witch (or even the existence of the supernatural) very well. Her first thought is to confront her parents but considering how they never really got together, June stepped back from the idea. The last thing she needs other than being a disappointing daughter is her parents calling her crazy. She isn't overly fond of the word, so she silently climbed upstairs to her room, smiling at her parents like nothing happened.

The ride from home to school was as wordless as ever and June could only think of the same thing. Her anxiety was tripping, she worried her nails with her teeth, getting way too panicky about encountering the gang (as Stiles called it) once again. She knows little to nothing about her own self, let alone werewolves with red eyes, that just got her to wonder how was she supposed to handle it? Lydia mentioned that her superpowers were magic, and June was too off-course in her own mind to ask her the redhead anything else.

Ever-so-anxious, June stands still in front of her locker, staring at it with so much concentration she thinks she can open them with her mind. And shouldn't she be able to do that? Isn't telekinesis a part of witchery? All these questions make June want to bang her own head into the locker. A sudden stir in the stillness next to her causes June to turn, her heart colliding with her throat. Seems like almost everything got June scared  now and she wishes that it wouldn't happen as often as it did. Standing against the locker next to her is a gritty boy who smirks on his jawline, his sienna hair glowing gold in the sunlight. June immediately recognizes him as one of the twins who newly joined this year, but they're both too identical for her to pinpoint which twin he is. She furrows her dark eyebrows questioningly as he eyes her. "Hey," he says flirtatiously, biting his lower lip. June widens her eyes in shock, that definitely isn't what she thought he would say. But at least now she knows which twin she is looking at.

"Aiden," She greets, raising one eyebrow. His twin, Ethan, is gay so it has to be Aiden trying to flirt with him right now.

"You know who I am then." He relaxes his shoulder from the locker, but his eyes are still teasing over her.

June narrows her eyes as she shifts in her position uneasily, "Should I not be knowing who you are?"

Aiden chuckles at her response, a hint of red on his cheek. Somehow, June knows she doesn't like where this is going. All she wants to do is escape but the same emotion is blocking her actions— fear. "Now that you do know me," Aiden starts, licking his bottom lip. June's heart thuds against her chest Please don't say it, please don't say it, she repeats in her mind as though it would stop from what's coming. "How about we get to know each other better?"

"No."

Both June and Aiden snap their necks to the side when a new voice growls. Aiden sighs in annoyance upon seeing Scott McCall, running his hand through his blond hair. June is simply surprised as she raises her eyebrows at him, lips unconsciously curling into a smile. "What do you want?" Aiden snarls, his brown eyes viciously glare at Scott's soft ones. The brunet boy however is unfazed by Aiden's threats. Instead he takes a step forward, eyes piercing into the blond's. "Whatever you have in mind, that won't work."

Aiden scoffs, suddenly forgetting about June's presence. "Haven't you lost enough, Scott? Do you really have to start another fight?" He lowers his voice menacingly in the next statement; "A fight you will lose."

A growl vibrates from Scott's throat and June is afraid once again, her dream replaying in her head. She has never seen him angry before and seeing him angry now isn't helping her at all. She doesn't want to see his ruby eyes in real life— she isn't ready for that.

Before anything can happen, a hand swirls around June's and Scott's necks, pulling them closer. June is unsurprising but thankful for Stiles's entrance at the right moment, grinning at Aiden like they were best buds. "Yeah, I think this is your cue to leave." Stiles says gleefully. Aiden huffs angrily, his chest rises with the movement but he leaves anyway, sending loathsome glares to Scott. June and Stiles both heave a breath when he leaves.

The scrawny boy grabs onto June's shoulders the next second, forcing her chocolate eyes into his oval wide one. "You remember to stay away from him," Stiles warns, "He and his brother can combine into one humongous alpha. You don't want to like them."

June scrunches her eyebrows, "They combine?"

"Yeah, ask Scott."

They both expectantly look at the werewolf next to them but much to their horror, the teen wolf is clenching his jaw, his nose is scrunched as he tries to suppress his anger. June and Stiles gasp as they pull Scott away from the crowd and like though their minds spoke to each other,  they readily toss their friend into the janitor's closet, bolting the door behind them.

"What's happening to him?" June panics as Scott tights his eyes shut, curling his palms into compressed fists. She knows that being a half-wolf means that there are anger management issues, but she didn't know it can happen so out of the blue.

"What does it look like is happening to him? He's getting angry." Stiles says hastily, "Hold him, quick we need to calm him down."

June obeys him without another word, panic brewing as Scott doesn't seem to be calming down. She holds on to his shoulders (that were so attractively strong), biting her lips anxiously. She nudges to Stiles, realising that it isn't working. She informs him the same but he looks at her irritably. "I can see that, June. Thank you for stating the obvious."

"Shut up Stiles! What are we supposed to do now?"

"Allison! Allison," Stiles suddenly screeches, like he had just gotten an idea. "Think of Allison, Scott. She's still your anchor right?"

What June sees next makes her more confused than ever possible. Scott opens his eyes, anger and frustration still present on his, but his eyes aren't red. They aren't even soft brown like they normally are.

They are yellow. And that makes no sense.

He closes his eyes, inhaling deep breaths and June can feel that he has calmed down. He opens his eyes and the umber shade returns.

"What was that?" Stiles demands, accusingly glaring at his best friend. "You were about to turn."

"I know." Scott calmly replies, covering his face with his hands. "I just— I still don't believe it."

"Believe what?" Stiles asks before June can, "That Derek is dead?"

"What?" June yelps, eyes wide with terror. She feels a little guilty for feeling slightly relived over that news and she can't be blamed for that, he did try and scare her. But still, looking at Scott's current state, she realises he must have meant something to him. "So that's what Aiden meant." She recalls: Haven't you lost enough, Scott?

"Whatever, we have to leave." Stiles nudges Scott and turns to June when she confusedly looks at him. "The lacrosse team has a cross-country meet today, so we won't be with you for the rest of the day."

June raises her eyes incredulously. "I just found out I'm a witch and you're gonna abandon me?"

Stiles huffs a breath, rolling his eyes at her dramatically. "You know that's not like that. Stay with Lydia, something tells me she may be a witch too."

"We'll be back tomorrow, don't worry." Scott assures softly, passing his perpetual smile again. June blushes.

They leave the janitor's closet reluctantly, and June sadly waves bye to the boys, her fear grinding her. Alone in school with twins who can combine into a big bad wolf (especially when one tried flirting with her) seems like the most terrible idea she has had in ages. She turns around, deciding to look for Lydia but the same redhead appears in front of her, looking at June with anticipation.

"Hey, I was looking for you." June informs, adjusting the strap of her bag. Lydia doesn't reply as she nervously bites her lips and soon, Allison joins them, widening her eyes upon seeing June. "So. . .witch." The brunette whispers meticulously that causes June to widen her gem-like eyes.

"You know?" She whisper-shouts. Well of course she knows, she dated Scott McCall. "Are you one of them too?"

"A werewolf?" Allison chuckles like the idea itself is stupid, her strawberry lips curve into a smile. "No, no I'm a hunter. A retired one. Until last night, though, I may have used my bow again." She raises her shoulders guiltily, looking at Lydia. June, still learning about supernatural only listens to the first sentence. "A-a hunter?" She clarifies, eyebrows tilted curiously. Allison nods elatedly, her lower lip in between her teeth.

June turns to Lydia, absorbing what Allison just confirmed. "Stiles tells me you may be a witch too?" The redhead tilts her head on this, her face scrunched in dismay. "I'm not a witch."

"What are you then?" It is Allison who asks her this, raising her eyebrows. Lydia exhales deeply, not meeting eyes with any of them. "Something." She mutters.

The honk of a vehicle— the school bus causes Lydia and Allison to turn their heads towards it, looking as though they were forgetting feeling. "Oh no," Lydia groans, grabbing June's hands as all three start walking out of the corridor. "Let's go." She indicates to Allison while June's wrist still remains on her grip.

"Where are we going?" June hurriedly asks as she is dragged towards a raven car, Allison immediately sits on the driver's seat, turning on the engine without another word. "We're bunking school?" She asks again, more stressed.

"Don't say it like that," Lydia implores as she shoves June in the backseat before perching on the passenger's seat. "Think of it as saving the world."

Even if June wants to try to push herself out of the car, Allison starts it without a second thought and it looks like they are following the cross-country team on the bus. All June can think is about Scott. "Saving it from what? The Alphas?"

"Good job, Junes. Looks like you were paying attention." Lydia compliments in a teasing tone.

"Just because I was, doesn't mean I understood it." The dark haired girl whispers back. She looks over at Allison as the brunette intently looks at the bus in front of them, biting her lips in focus. "Is this about Scott?" She asks.

"Good to know you're not just all talk." Lydia smartly remarks, pouting her pink lips at the inexperienced witch. "We're gonna save him."

━━☆⌒.⌒☆━━

"I'm not letting him out of my sight." Allison complains, consciously biting her lips. Currently, Lydia is having her fun whilst claiming that Allison is doing this to stalk Scott more than anything else. The huntress however is adamant on proving the redhead wrong, although she (and June for that matter) believe don't believe it.

"And by the way," the brunette continues, "This all started when he came knocking on my door." She recalls, persistent on convincing the two that she is completely over Scott. As Allison recites the story of how Scott visited her yesterday, June places her hand on her stomach, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Under her hand, she's inflicted with pain. The torment grows  and she groans as a hundred knives stab through her stomach, delicately gashing her skin. Her breaths start to break as she pulls over her shirt slightly, looking over at her stomach where it burns improbably. She grunts in pain, running her fingers through her skin, but there's no wound on it━ it's as clear as day.

Sensing her uneasiness, Lydia turns around, scrunching her eyebrows when she finds June in an awkward position of tracing her own skin. "What are you doing?" She confusedly asks, voice raised in judgement. Curiously, Allison peeks at June through the rear-view mirror with similar confusion on her face. "Are you okay?"

June's breath starts to heave, the pain isn't subsiding but she let down her shirt, biting her lips to suppress the ache. "Yeah— yeah I'm good." June lies. "Just. . . itchy."

Both girls look unconvinced at her response but don't pry on it, their eyes once again on the road and the yellow school bus. June's palm remains on the infected area, uncertainty flooding her mind.

"We're out of fuel," Lydia informs Allison, her eyebrows raised accusingly. The brunette sighs in frustration. "No, no, no." She slaps the wheel irritably, cursing under her breath.

Lydia's phone begins to ring and the ginger-head's azure eyes widen when she looks at the caller ID, looking worriedly at June and Allison. "It's Stiles." She informs before lifting the call. "Hey, Stiles. Yeah we're just about to walk into a movie, um you know, the popcorn and the—"

She cringes as Stiles says something from the other side of the call and June knows it's because he figured out she was lying. "It's a school day, how the hell are we supposed to go to a movie?" June says to Lydia with her brows raised. She ignores it and mutters an 'okay' to Stiles before putting him on speaker.

"Okay, look. Scott's still hurt." Stiles's voice vibrates from Lydia's phone. The girls share a look with each other, frowning at the information they just gathered. June can only understand so much by the statement, she knows that supernatural creatures have the ability to heal incoherently fast, so Scott still being hurt doesn't sound right. Instinctively, June places her hand on the invisible wound, frowning her eyebrows. Could this be related?

"What do you mean still is he not healing?" Allison asks, expressing June's thoughts exactly. "No, he's not healing and I think he's actually getting worse, the blood's turning into a black colour."

"Black?" June asks, voice laced with worry. That definitely isn't a good sign. "June?" Stiles sounds even more distressed now. "June what are you doing here?"

"We need to get him off the bus," Allison instructs, ignoring Stiles's dismay.

"And do what take him to the hospital?" Lydia retorts.

"If he's dying, then yeah." Allison states firmly, clenching her jaw. Lydia nods slowly, biting her bubblegum lips as she turns around to meet a perplexed June. "Now might be a good time to start working on your magic."

"No, no. June, do nothing with your magic okay? It won't make Scott better."

"That's rude." June retorts, taking his statement by offence. Just because she's new, that doesn't mean she's useless. She pouts dishearteningly, although Stiles can't see that.

"No, that's not what I— no I—June!"

"You need to get him off the bus." Allison cries, still not paying attention to the banter between June and Stiles. "Get coach to pull up at the rest stop." With that, the call ends, and all three girls are left worrying their lips with their teeth.

"What did he mean by my magic won't help Scott?" June asks, nibbling her nails. "I don't know," Allison replies pressingly. "It doesn't matter now we'll talk about it later, okay?"

"The bus stopped." Lydia says with a sighing relief. Allison exhales deeply, trying to shake the anxiety off her as she parks the car right behind the bus.

The lacrosse cross-country team haste out of the bus nauseatingly, their hands covering their noses as their entire faces are wrinkled with disgust. As the trio of girls get closer to the bus, June figures out why. She gags a hand over her mouth to surpass the disgusting stench of vomit that is clearly arriving from the bus. If this was Stiles's way of getting the bus to halt, he is even crazier than June remembers.

Allison hurries forward when Stiles arrives with Scott's hand over his shoulder, clearly in immense pain. Upon the sight June feels the pain once again on her abdomen. She hisses in agony as she places a hand over it, trying to establish the reason behind it but like earlier, there is not even a scratch on her pale skin. Holding her lower lip in between her teeth, she realises a dark stain on Scott's shirt, amplifying thickly. The next second she realises that it's in the same area where her skin burns. . . which doesn't make sense. Her starry eyes linger on Scott until he disappears with Allison into the bathroom, feeling the torment on her stomach intensify. She grits her teeth to suppress it, but that doesn't work. June forces herself to believe that the only reason why she feels Scott McCall's distress is her dormant magic trying to tell her that he is hurt. Maybe that's what her powers are? She closes her eyes longingly, passing breaths in and out.

June opens her eyes and meets a familiar. An identical face of a different person. Standing in front of her now is Ethan Steiner, half-smirking with his tight jaw clenched. She feels her heart trembling in fear, running against her chest as though it could escape him. With the knowing rise of his sandy brows, June realises that he hears it— he hears her fear.

"If you're here with them," Ethan indicates to Lydia and Stiles engaging in an intense conversation. "It means you know about everything."

June doesn't reply, mostly because she doesn't know what to say. But her shivering body and her thudding heart spoke for her. "So let me warn you. Deucalion knows who you are, what you are. And he's coming for you."

In all honesty, June has no idea who this Deucalion is but she knows it's someone very bad. Her teeth begin to shudder like the rest of her body as she struggles to stand still. Ethan and Aiden are from an entire pack or Alphas, of murderers. If the Alpha in front of her is talking about someone so highly, it must be the leader of their pack— the Demon Wolf.

"W-what does he— want with me?" June fights to keep her voice steady but it's almost impossible. The Alpha scoffs at her naivety, "Something, obviously. And you don't have to try and play dumb." He takes a charging step forward but it only makes June stumble behind. "We thought we could lure you in, trick you. But looks like Aiden doesn't have to try anymore. Now that you know, you might as well tell this to your little group of baby werwolves and humans who think they are better. You still can't win."

He whispers the next few lines into her ears that sends shivers down her spine. "The thing about the Demon Wolf is, he always gets what he wants. Always."

And he leaves without another word, contended with how shaken he got the girl, the witch. He knows what you are and he's coming for you. Deucalion. Demon Wolf. Always gets what he wants.

June gasps so loudly when a hand holds her shoulder that the entire group of students look over at her in confusion. She shakes her shoulder away from the person's grasp and meets Stiles's startled face. With his eyebrows contorted and lips frowning so largely, June can almost laugh at how absurd her best friend looks. "What the fuck?"

"What? You scared me?" June pouts, wiping the sweat off her face to cover her dismay.

"Since when are you scared of people touching you?"

"Since I've figured out that guys with red scary eyes exist." June retorts. Eyes wide while asking him to just shut up.

Stiles rolls his eyes. "Alphas. And not all werwolves have red eyes. They also have blue or yellow. Like Scott's."

June raises her eyebrows, she didn't know that before now. Although Scott's eyes now have her more intrigued than ever. She knows she didn't overlook his eye colour, those were the most eerie part of her dreams. "Aren't Scott's eyes like. . . red?"

Stiles scoffs, rolling his eyes. "Scott? An Alpha with red eyes? Nah, he'd never kill anyone."

June swallows her saliva. "Kill?"

The lanky boy relieves an oh. "You don't know it yet. See, the thing is to become an Alpha, you need to kill an Alpha. And Scott wouldn't hurt a bee."

The misinformed girl's heart begins to gallop once again, a new truth swallowing her up. If her dreams are some kind of prediction of what's to happen and she has seen Scott with red eyes, the eyes of an Alpha— does that mean that the innocent Beta who wouldn't hurt a bee— is going to kill someone?

As though her day could not have gotten worse, a silvery bright figure from the corner catches her eye. Looking towards it, June becomes so speechless despite wanting to scream her lungs out and run away as fast as she can to as far she can run. She only found out about the supernatural a day ago, and everything has already toppled down. Legends, myths, prophecies, dreams— she is done with them all, and ironically she knows she can't escape it. Scott comes out limping with an arm over Allison's shoulder, looking much better than he did and June can feel the pain tighten on her skin. Watching Scott wearing a fresh shirt now, she knows that it's his pain that she feels even though she doesn't know why. Her eyes meet Scott's that are narrowed down at her like she's still a puzzle that he's been dying to solve. Like she's still something that he wants to figure out.

Following June's beady eyes, Scott sees what she's seeing, what he only half expected to see again. On the sidewalk next to the public bathroom, perched on the pavement like it owns it is a stark white cat, piercing its slitted amber eyes into June's pearly ones in sheer stillness. It doesn't blink at her even as June's heart hammers faster, even as the young witch looks at the tired Beta knowingly. Still with Allison's support, he passes a small smile at her once again, comforting her even in his distress.

God, June really wants to understand this feeling.
