Chapter 34 Right place right time
“Wait, you two know each other?” The green eyed men asked and the two of us nodded, not sure what to made of the situation. I felt like my world had been turned upside down in a matter of days; it was as though my journey to find Katerina had somehow triggered a series of events that led my past back to me. It’s as though the world was telling me that I was meant to do this like the prophecy had foretold.
“We were in the same school.” Viktor responded after it was clear that I wasn’t going to say anything, though his eyes still locked to my face as he talked to his friends.
“She’s the girl you…” The only female in the group started excitedly before stopping mid-sentence as Viktor shot her a glare. She had short, preppy auburn hair in a pixie cut and warm brown eyes that were now eyeing me with interest. What did she wanted to say?
“They said you got a scholarship to the School of Medicine and Science,” Viktor started, taking a step forward to address me properly and I was taken aback by the intensity in his eyes. “You just disappeared after the attack and when I joined the school there was no record of you whatsoever. It was like you just vanished into thin air.”
Casey was now throwing me looks and I knew she was wondering what happened between Viktor and I; the truth was nothing. His memories was altered after the incident, Nigel had told me that and we had never really crossed path before then. That’s why I could not make sense of why he had been trying to find me. Unless…
“You remember?” I asked vaguely, hoping to receive a clueless answer. Instead my suspicion was met when Viktor gave me an incredulous look.
“Of course I do!” He raised his hands to emphasis the point and I could feel the wide eye look from Casey as she had obviously thought about this in a completely different direction. “You saved our lives, you saved my life. I would have been dead if it wasn’t for you and you think that I would just drop the issue when you disappeared?”
“You are not meant to remember.” I said, a little embarrassed from his outburst. What happened then had more to do with a split second decision than my bravery to save everyone and it was fluttering to know that Viktor had taken this so seriously. However the real question to me remained as to how he managed to retain that information. I had written to Lizzie and she didn’t have any memories of the event. She thought we had escaped into the manhole just in time.
“Why do you keep saying that?” Viktor threw his hands up again, agitated. “Why can’t you just answer my questions?”
Crooking my head to one side I pondered over our situation. None of us were familiar with this level of technology and whilst we could probably overwhelm them by force who’s to say they didn’t have some kind of secret controller that would disable the plane or at least mess with it. Peering at Viktor’s face I knew that this had been bothering him for a long time, most likely for the past three years and the least I could give him was so kind of explanation. A half-truth.
“I will answer your questions if you answer mine first.” I compromised, which seemed to pacify him. “And that we will all sit down and talk civilly.”
Viktor’s glance flickered over the guy who first spoke which solidified my assumption that he was the one in charge. Giving me a calculating glance the man crossed his arms over his chest and nodded and I sighed inside. I would hate to see this all come down to a fight. Especially three thousand feet above ground.
“After you have fainted we were immediately surrounded by a group of military.” Viktor started and I nodded; this part I did know. “I was so exhausted I lost consciousness too and when I woke up I was at the hospital with this strange man sitting next to me.”
I could see the girl in the group had already heard of the story but the green eyed man and the other guy who had black hair and blue eyes were listening with interest too. “As soon as I woke up he asked me what I remembered and I told him. Then he just grabbed my shoulders and looked me right in the eyes and told me that I was to forget it and not mention it to anyone else.”
That must be the guy in charge of altering memories. I thought and then wondered why it hadn’t work with Viktor. Maybe he was too tired and was having an off day? Surely not, he had been doing this for a long time I would assume. If it wasn’t him that it must be Viktor. Maybe he was somehow immune to mental abilities; with all the crazy mutations going on I wouldn’t be surprised if someone is.
“When I got back to school a few weeks later it seemed like everyone had moved on from the incident.” Viktor continued, his eyes sparkling as though retelling the story had somehow helped him made sense of it. “When I asked where you were they told me that you had gotten a scholarship to School of Medicine and Science and I felt like an ass for not seeking you out earlier and thanking you.”
“Then an idea came to me; I had already applied for the School of Medicine and Science, if I worked hard and get the grades I could thank you personally when I arrive.” Viktor said, chuckling as though it was the most naïve thing and I couldn’t help but felt warm by his effort to just say thanks to me. Saving his life or not, he wasn’t in debt to me. I was in debt to him; if I hadn’t have the powers he would have died trying to save us all. I only did what I did because his bravery inspired me.
“And I did it.” He smiled proudly and I smiled too; School of Medicine and Science are notoriously difficult to get in. I knew because I had wanted to go, too. “But when I arrived it turns out that you were never there.”
“That’s because I never had a scholarship.” I answered and Viktor’s eyebrows shot up. He must had been expecting it though. “If you remembered what happened then you should remember what I could do.”
Frowning, Viktor seemed confuse for a while before comprehension dawned on his face. “So you weren’t using some kind of weapons?” He asked and I tried not to laugh at what his assumption had been.
“No.” I shook my head and lifted a loose piece of metal that had detached itself during the crush. I noticed that their leader didn’t seemed too shocked by the news; he probably knew about it already as I couldn’t imagine core members in the School of Medicine and Science being oblivious to POEs’ existence.
“You are like a mutant?” the red-head gushed and look at me with a star-struck expression. I tried not to snort at the term that was obviously taken from X-men and nodded. Technically that was what we are.
“Something like that.” I answered and gently returned the scrape onto the floor.
“Where were you all these time then?” Viktor asked and I hesitated for a second. If I was to tell him a full story since the day we had last seen each other it would take hours.
“I was taken to a special school.” I answered in the end, “And long story short, something happened and we need to go and see someone who might be able to fix it all.”
“So you hijacked our plane.” The man with green eyes said and I tensed for a second before he broke into a smile. “My name is Caleb.”
“Nice to meet you.” I answered and he snort-laughed.
“I could think of better way.” He said good-naturedly and I was glad that he seemed to be an easy going person. Imagine what it would be like if he turned out to be like Gerald – we would single handedly start World War IV.
“This is Tristan and Gina.” He introduced the other members of his team and I quickly did the same.
“And I am really sorry about this, we will return this to you as soon as we reach our destination.” I appologised and hoped that he would be okay with it. God knows if it was me I would be livid. Instead however he laughed and waved his hand as though it was no big deal.
“We will be happy to go along with the ride.” Caleb said; surely it wouldn’t be this easy. “But only if you be honest to us and tell us everything.”
There’s the catch. I thought to myself. This wasn’t just my secret to tell, well, it is mostly I guess.
“What do you want to know?” I asked, “But there are some things that I can’t tell you but I promise to tell you as much as I can.” I quickly added in case he started digging too deep.
“Fair dos.” He replied, then made his way towards the chairs. “We might as well get comfortable then.”
Sending a mental message to Gerald, whom by the way did not seemed to care that the owner of the aircraft had managed to get back on before we take off so he knew what was happening. Settling down I could still sense the tension in the room but it was not a palpable as before.
“What do you want to know?” I asked warily. Liam, Vanessa and Casey had sat down at the row behind me so I was directly facing Caleb. I took a deep breath to calm my fraying nerves and reminded myself that I could handle this.
“Exactly why and how are you looking for?” Caleb asked, not bothering to start off with smaller questions and going straight for the heart. It was also a question that I couldn’t answer without going into everything,
“Like I said, it’s a long story.” I sighed again, this was becoming like a habit. Caleb laughed as though I cracked a joke.
“We have got all the time in the world.” He said glancing to the direction of the cockpit. Trying to formulate the string of events in my head, I knew there was no point in holding back and somehow, I felt like I could trust these people.
“So your ancestor from three hundred years ago sent you a video to save the world?” Gina asked, wide-eyed and summing everything up pretty accurately.
“Yes.” I answered, my lips pressing together from nerves as I waited for their reaction. Caleb was still smiling and Tristan looked like he was having a hard time processing everything in. Gina, as you could tell was very excited about my life story and continued to look at me like I jumped out of a comic book. Viktor’s face was unreadable and I knew that if I was in his shoes I would be equally as shocked. I bet this reality was a thousand times wilder than any scenarios he ever thought up.
“And you are going to meet a three hundred year old woman.” Gina fired another questions and I nodded. I could hear Casey trying not to giggle behind me and the strangled breathings from Liam told me that he was in the same boat. At least Vanessa got my back.
“And she’s probably friends with your dead ancestor.” Gina added and I nodded again, not sure why she was reiterating everything that I just told her.
“This is so cool!” she exclaimed and Tristan threw her a not-again expression. “Can we come with you to meet her?”
“I guess?” I replied uncertainly. To be honest I hadn’t given much thoughts about things after landing in Romania. Surely she would have guards, or some kind of security measure in place to stop people wondering in by accident. How were we going to get to her?
“How long would it take for us to get to Romania?” I asked Caleb. The first step of gaining control of the situation is gathering as much information as you can before make decisions.”
“That depends.” Caleb answered and leaned back in his chair, looking relaxed. I was a little jealous of his calm at such a situation; if my plane got hijacked I would be kicking some serious butt right now.
“On what?” I prompted, knowing he was just building up suspends. He studied the wreckage for a few more seconds before speaking again.
“I don’t know how good a pilot your friend is, but if you can clear this and let me fly, it wouldn’t take more than two hours.”
I raised my eyebrow at him and smiled. We might be getting along just fine right now, but who knew what he would do once he gain control.
“You don’t trust me do you?” Caleb laughed heartily and stood up, turning to face Viktor who was sitting behind him staring quietly outside the window. “I guess you two have a lot to catch up on. I will leave you to it.”

So it turned out I lied, this isn't the penultimate chapter, I somehow thought I was already on chapter 34 but this is the REAL chapter 34.
Sometimes I do hate putting new characters in but the truth is that if Abigail is going around different places, she will meet different people because it's a different circle. Simple as.
A lot of you ask me how I keep up with the characters I created - to be honest I don't remember them all, but there's a few that I had plans for right from the start.
Anyway, hope you guys are excited about the ending of it. Some of you have asked about Tom; he is still an important character but he has his own battles to fight. And you know these two, they are too independent for the clingy crap that most contempoary romance novels love. Urgh.
Remember to comment and vote! I feel like less and less people are reading this :(
