Chapter - 3
Zayn's Pov:
Life is different.
It is different for everyone.
But one thing about life is the same for everyone and that is life is Challenging!!
Some may have fewer challenges while some might have to deal with a whole lot of them. The only different thing is the way you deal with them.
I always wondered why it has to be like that. I mean why can't things be as simple as the way we breathe?
" Mr Ahmed?! Mr Ahmed?!" my assistant's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Yes."
"Your father called and told me to remind you about the meeting with the new clients. He told me to, um.."
"Told you what?" I asked him.
"Um, sir, he told me to warn you on his behalf to be extra careful and not to mess up anything." My assistant said nervously.
I rolled my eyes not at him but at my father and his words.
My father, Ayub Ahmed is the owner of Ahmed Industries. He is one hell of a ruthless man who can never trust anyone for his life. Not even his children.
People around me have this huge misconception that being the son of such a successful and famous industrialist, I might be one hell of a lucky guy and that I can get whatever I want and lead a very happy, privileged life with no worries at all.
But the reality of my life is quite different. Yeah, sure, I have certain privileges that others might even die to get. I own a private jet, a lavish bungalow, sports cars, the latest gadgets, and whatnot.
But what they don't understand is that nothing is free in life. Everything in life comes at a cost. I don't have to pay for any of the materialistic things in my life with money because the cost I'm paying for them is much higher. All these privileges are given to at the cost of my freedom!
My father doesn't see me as his son. He sees me as an asset. Someone who is supposed to take over his company and run it successfully after him.
He has never shown any kind of paternal emotions towards us. My little sister is a bit lucky when it comes to witnessing the softer side of our father though.
No matter how hard and efficiently I work, he is never impressed with me. He never praised me.
You need to do better!
Don't be a crybaby, Zayn!!
I was far better at this age.
My ears are dying to hear words of appreciation from him.
Hell, forget about the appreciation, I wish he could just simply trust for once.
"Sir? Are you okay?" My assistant called me worriedly.
"Yeah. Umm, did you get the list of the interior designers for my penthouse?" I asked him dusting off all the thoughts away from my mind.
"Yes, I filtered and picked the best for you, sir. I have already emailed their names and samples of their work along with their contact details to you. I will arrange a meeting with them whenever you want to meet them."
Dismissing him I opened my email to check the list. I went through the list. I went through their work and noticed that all of them were quite talented but there was one particular person that caught my attention or shall I say one particular name?
Seher!! My Sunshine!!
As soon as I saw the name, my heart skipped a beat.
Is she the one?!
If yes, then my search for her will finally come to an end.
Desperate to find out if this person was my Seher or not I looked up her company on Google. I silently prayed to find her images as well but I couldn't find anything except for the tremendous work she has done. She seems to be the CEO of this company. Even though it is a startup company, her team and herself have done some big projects and have executed their work with perfection.
"Fuck. Why is there no single image of her?" I cursed.
I need to personally go to her office and meet her.
Every time I come across the name Seher my expectations rise only to be disappointed at the end. But this time I have a strong feeling that my wait will finally come to an end.
I won't give up until I find you, Seher. No matter where you're I will find you.
Thinking this, I laid my head back on the headrest and closed my eyes. Memories from the past flashed in my mind.
A set of beautiful, brown and big doe eyes with the brightest smile that can light up anyone's world flashed in my eyes causing butterflies to erupt in my stomach.
Her name matches her personality so well. Her smile is just as bright as the sun's rays. She is a very optimistic person. Her energy is contagious just like her smile.
If I start talking about her then I don't think there would be an end to it.
I didn't want to waste another minute, so I emailed her assistant expressing my interest in working with them. I also mentioned that I would be visiting the office tomorrow to meet her boss. Shortly after, I received an email from her expressing their excitement about meeting and working with me.
Next day:
Last night, I couldn't even sleep a wink. I was just waiting for the night to pass by as quickly as possible. The mere thought, no, the mere possibility of finding my Seher tomorrow made my heart race.
As soon as the clock struck 7 am, I jumped out of bed and got ready at lightning speed.
I quickly had my breakfast and directly headed towards her office. I reached her office by 8:30 am and I was pretty much aware of the fact that I reached there ahead of time.
I was embarrassed at first when I was received by her assistant who looked quite puzzled by my untimely arrival but again I couldn't care less. All that matters to me is my Seher.
I sat in the meeting room. Her assistant excused herself after bringing me a cup of coffee.
I sat there in the room alone, eagerly waiting for the arrival of Seher, hopefully, my Seher. I took a sip of the coffee and its taste immediately reminded me of my university's cafeteria where I met Seher for the first time.
Zayn's Flashback:
The wind hit my face as I raced my way towards the university.
The air was strong yet fresh, and without my helmet, I wouldn't have been able to keep my eyes open. The alarm on my bike beeped incessantly as I crossed the speed limit that was set on it. I was riding my bike with such speed that it was scary. If someone had been riding a pillion, they would have had a heart attack just thinking about the possibility of crashing.
Is this dangerous? Yes.
Does this risk my life? Yes.
Am I scared? Hell no!!
I love racing. I love performing dangerous stunts. I love risking my life. I love chasing death. People might think that I am either depressed or a madman. But that's not true. I'm simply a dare-devil. That's who I am.
I was the first to reach the university, winning the race as usual. I removed my helmet and adjusted my hair. My friends arrived after a while.
"Dude I don't think anyone can defeat you in bike racing in this lifetime." One of my mates said.
I smirked at him.
We parked our bikes at the parking space provided by the University and headed in.
"Zayn! Thank God, you're here. We were waiting for you." One of my classmates said while panting heavily. It was evident that she hurried towards me as soon as she caught sight of me.
"Why? What happened?" I asked her.
"There is a scene going on in the cafeteria. Someone was sitting in your booth and when Asad objected, she started arguing with him."
Who the hell has the guts to sit in my booth?! I asked myself.
The whole university knows that the corner booth in the cafeteria is always reserved for me and my friends. No one dares to even glance towards it.
We arrived at the cafeteria and noticed people had gathered around the booth. I saw that Asad, my best friend was talking with someone. I stopped at a distance and observed the situation.
"Why?! Did he pay any special fee for this table? I heard someone. Her tone was firm yet it was sweet. Even a nightingale would be jealous of her voice.
I was slightly distracted by her sweet voice but her words rang in my mind.
Rahul intervened and apologised on her behalf, pulling her out of the booth. But she jerked her hand off and stood with her back facing towards me.
"You can't bully him like that." She said.
At this point I was furious.
How dare she talk like that? What does she think of herself?
"What is happening here?" I asked standing right behind her.
I could feel her body stiffening. She was turning around when her leg twisted and was about to fall. Instinctively, I grabbed her by her waist and pulled her towards me. Her face was hidden as she hit my torso. I could smell her hair, it smelt as fresh as a breeze with a slight hint of smell of rose flowers.
Her hair was all over her face. I moved them away to get a clear look at her face.
"Wow! She is beautiful!" I said to myself.
Standing in front of me was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my whole life. She looked like someone who had just dropped directly from heaven.
Her eyes were almond-shaped and big. She had a small yet straight nose which was slightly red. She had a small mouth with full lips which were pink in color. Those are the most perfect-shaped lips I have ever seen. Her skin was flawless and supple. She had thick long jet black hair that flowed with the breeze covering her face repeatedly as if it was trying to hide her beauty from me. I had to resist the urge to tuck her hair behind her ear.
I was simply awe-struck by her beauty. All my fury vanished into thin air. I even forgot where I was standing and what was happening around me.
I let my gaze slide past her face towards her lips. I slowly ran my thumb over her lips. They were extremely soft just like baby lips. I want to taste her lips. I want to experience the feeling of her lips over mine. I want to bite her lips.
"What the hell are you doing, you pervert?" Her voice snapped me out of my lustful thoughts.
It was then I realised what I was doing. I immediately dropped my hands and stepped back. I noticed that the students gathered around us were gaping at us in shock.
Kiss?!
What the hell is wrong with me? Why am I thinking about kissing her?
I cleared my throat and composed myself.
"Who are you?" I asked her ignoring her question.
But instead of answering my question, she counter-questioned me.
I chuckled at her childish behaviour.
"I'm Zayn Ahmed." I introduced myself.
I waited for her to introduce herself but she didn't reply.
"You've got my name and now it's only fair that I get yours." He said.
She turned red in embarrassment but once again she tried to cover it up.
"I'm Seher." She replied.
"What is the meaning of your name, Seher?"
"It means Sunshine."
"Hmm... not just sunshine but a beautiful sunshine." I said slowly.
"Excuse me, what did you say?" She asked.
"Nothing. You've got a beautiful name."
"Umm.. thanks?!"
I'm someone who never compliments anyone. But I just don't know what is wrong with me today.
From the corner of my eye, I can see that my best friend had a smug grin plastered on his face which means that the motherfucker is going to tease me till my death.
Even I don't know why I complimented her for fuck's sake. I cursed myself internally.
"So, can you tell me what was happening here?" He asked me.
"First of all, your friends are being mean. They bullied my friend. Second, they are not letting anyone sit here. They say this place is reserved for you. Did you buy this spot or something? No, right? Then why are they being so biased? You're not a VIP; you're just a student like the rest of us. Don't you think it's wrong to mistreat other students like this?" She asked me.
Bully?! I looked towards Asad, my best friend and he was looking at me with guilt. It is clearly written on his face that he had done something fishy in my absence.
I could feel the rise in tension in the room. Students around us are beyond shocked. And why wouldn't they be? Because no one has ever dared to even look at me with a spiteful gaze let alone speak to me, no, question me in this tone.
If it were someone else then they would have been buried six feet under the ground before they could even finish the sentence.
But with this girl, I don't know why, I don't feel any anger. I don't feel any disrespect.
Seher simply amazes me.
Have you ever seen a kitten? They are cute but fierce. They are tiny but act like they dare to conquer the world. They are angry monsters that can scare the shit out of the mighty tiger with their one hiss. They are not scared to use their claws when needed.
Seher is just like a kitten. She is tiny and cute. She is fierce and speaks her mind. She is ready to use her claws when needed. She is courageous but deep down she is scared.
For instance, I can see her white knuckles which means that she is scared and anxious about the situation but when you look at her face she looks like a courageous lady with her chin held up and straight shoulders and stiff back.
Before I could even stop myself, I grinned at her which annoyed her even more. She folded her hands and huffed looking at me.
"Do you like to sit here?" I asked her pointing towards our booth where she was seated before.
"Yeah, it looks cosy." She replied.
"Okay, you can sit there." I said without thinking twice.
"What?! Zayn, what is wrong with you? You are letting an outsider that to a lower standard girl sit in our booth? I mean, just, look at her clothes, not even one single thing she has on her is branded. She looks so cheap. I don't know why this University gives admission to this kind of people. It is insulting to people like us who come from a higher class family background." Tasha sneered at Seher
After listening to Tasha's words, I noticed that, indeed, Seher was wearing a simple white kurti and blue jeans underneath. She had a black leather strap watch on her left wrist and a white pearl bracelet on her right hand.
No branded clothes. No fancy jewellery. No makeup. I had no idea that someone could look so beautiful without making any effort.
This kitten is adorable.
"What the hell?! How can you insult someone like this? How can you judge a person based on what she is wearing? Yes, I might not be loaded like you guys, but, at least I have got manners. Yes, I got admission I got admitted into this University because everyone has the right to Education and everyone can study in whichever University they want to if they are talented enough. Unlike you, I was admitted to this university based solely on my talent and skills, not because my father pays a large donation to the university.." Seher said firmly to Tasha.
Wow!! My kitten not only has claws but she also knows when to use them. I said to myself.
Wait?!
What?!
My kitten?!
What the fuck?! Get your act together, Zayn. I said to myself.
Few of the students sneakered behind Tasha. To say that she was fuming with anger would be an understatement.
"You bitch.." Tasha charged towards Seher.
Immediately, I grabbed Seher's wrist and pulled her behind me so that I was standing right ahead of her to protect her from Tasha's rage.
"Enough Tasha," I said to her with a deep and firm voice so that she could understand that I was in no mood to watch this drama further.
"This bitch insulted me.."
"Language Tasha!!" I warned her.
"You're protecting her?! You're taking her side?! Wow! It's her first day at the University and she has already grabbed your attention. Well done, bitch." Tasha kept going despite warning her.
"Stop it." I tried to warn her again.
"Oh, okay, I got it now. Congrats, Zayn. You found your new fling." Tasha said clapping her hands.
That's it. It was the final straw for me.
"I said enough is enough. Just get the hell out of her." I shouted at her. Seher jumped behind me and took a few steps back but I did not let her go.
Tasha looked hurt. But I couldn't care less. If one thing I could never tolerate is insulting someone innocent especially because of their social status. Yes, I am proud of the background I come from. But I am not arrogant. Just because I come from an influential family doesn't mean I have the right to look down on someone who doesn't reach my social standing. I greatly respect those who have only paved their way up through hard work.
"I won't let this slide away so easily," Tasha warned Seher while glaring at her
I tightened my hold on Seher's wrist.
"One more word Tasha, you will be done," I warned her.
She rolled her eyes and stomped her way out of the cafeteria.
"Don't you all have classes to attend?" I asked the students standing around us.
All of them dispersed immediately leaving me alone with Seher.
I turned around to look at her. She looked pale and her hand was cold with fear. I could tell that she was shaken to bits.
"Are you okay?" I asked her.
She simply nodded her head.
"I'm sorry you had to witness all of this. I'm sure you wanted a peaceful, normal and first day at the university. I'm especially sorry for what Tasha has said. Don't take her words to heart. Forget all of it and have a good time." I apologised to her while scratching the back of my head. I didn't know if I was doing it the right way or not because I'm not used to saying sorry to anyone.
She looked like she would break down in tears at any moment but as I said earlier she can pretend well to be strong.
"You should go now, the classes are about to start," I said so that she could breathe freely.
I asked Rahul to Seher to her classroom. I felt bad for her. No one wishes to be the centre of attention on their very first day. She will be the topic of gossip in the college for a while because of which it is going to be hard for her to mingle with others.
"Seher!" I called her out as she was about to step out of the cafe.
"You can sit in the booth whenever you like. No one will stop you. Also, if you need help then I will always be there for you, I promise." I told her. She nodded smiling weakly and went off.
My poor kitten.
There's one thing I can agree with Tasha is that the cool dude of the Deccan University is smitten by Seher.
Present Day:
My cheeks were hurting suddenly and it was then I realised that I was smiling like a fool. Thank god, no one was here, otherwise they would have thought that I was possessed.
Now that I reminisce about the day I met her, I realize that it was love at first sight for me. I regret not confessing my feelings to her sooner, but I won't make the same mistake again. This time, I will not only confess my feelings to her, but I will also make her mine!
