{31} DID MIA WRITE ON THE WALL?
[Later that evening, Mia is doing her detention with Lockhart.]
Lockhart: Mia, Mia, Mia. Can you possibly imagine a better way to serve detention than by helping me to answer my fan mail?
"Bastard!" Hemrione and Ron simultaneously voiced their disdain, shooting a disapproving look at the screen.
"You know," Mia began, turning to her friends, "despite being a complete idiot, he did have a sense of humor."
Ron and Hermione exchanged puzzled glances, uncertain about Mia's sudden change of opinion.
Leaning towards Hermione, Ron whispered, "I don't think she got enough sleep last night."
Hermione nodded in agreement, attributing Mia's unusual sentiment to fatigue.
Mia playfully swatted at them. "Oh, come on, you two."
Mia: Not really.
Lockhart: Fame is a fickle friend, Mia. Celebrity is as celebrity does. Remember that. [As Lockhart picks up another fan letter]
"Was he really that bad?" Molly inquired, her curiosity piqued by the intense reactions from Mia, Ron, and Hermione.
"I don't hate people for no reason," Mia explained firmly, catching Sirius's attention with her serious tone.
Molly, attempting to understand the animosity towards the character in question, voiced her thoughts. "I doubt that he's a bad guy."
Ron, recalling past events, warned his mother, "Trust me, Mum, you'll hate him before this movie even ends."
Concerned and eager to comprehend the situation, Molly urged Ron to explain the source of his distress with the character. "What do you mean? What happened, Ron?" she probed, desperate for clarity.
"It'll be better to watch it. That way, it'll probably be easier for you to believe and understand why we're so angry at him," Mia suggested, endeavoring to find common ground between Ron and his mother.
"Okay," Molly relented, pausing her questioning for the time being. She squeezed Arthur's hand, feeling a rising sense of unease in her stomach. The adults, still perplexed, turned their attention back to the screen, eager to witness the unfolding events for themselves.
[Mia begins to hear an ominous, inhuman voice.]
Ominous Voice: Come... [Mia looks up] come... come to me... come to me...
The room fell into a tense hush as a voice reverberated around them, a haunting reminder that they were mere spectators to events that had already transpired.
Amidst the unease, the question lingered whether Lockhart had heard the voice as well. Concerned for Mia, Sirius broke the silence, prompting every gaze to converge on her.
"What was that?" Remus inquired, mirroring Sirius's care and apprehension.
Mia responded cautiously, unsure of how her truth would be received by those around her. With a shrug, she briefly conveyed the weight of the situation, leaving a solemn air to settle over the room as everyone grappled with the implications of her words.
Mia: What?
Lockhart: [looking up] Sorry? [glances at Mia]
Mia: That voice.
Lockhart: Voice?
Mia: Did you hear it?
Lockhart: What are you talking about, Mia?
"Did he not hear it?" Luna asked, her unease palpable in the air.
"I was the only one who heard it," Mia said solemnly, reinforcing the isolated nature of the haunting voice.
"Did you ever discover what it was?" Draco inquired cautiously, his curiosity tinged with concern.
"Yes, but it wasn't anything good," Mia responded, her words hanging heavily in the charged atmosphere.
Her response brought a collective reaction of shock and worry from those around her. Her words carried a weight that left the others searching for answers amid the unsettling unease that had settled over them.
In the midst of it all, Umbridge and Fudge remained frozen in their seats, gripped by fear of the voice, while Amelia found herself torn between her own trepidation and the compulsion to meticulously document every detail of the unfolding events.
Lockhart: I think you're getting a bit... uh, drowsy. And great scot! No wonder. Look at the time, we've been here nearly four hours. Spooky how the time flies when one's having fun. [chuckles]
Mia: [glances up, still thinking about the creepy voice she just heard] Spooky.
"Spooky it is."
[Mia is walking into the corridor when she suddenly hears the ominous voice again]
Ominous Voice: Blood. I smell blood. Let me rip you... Let me kill you. Kill... kill... kill!
"What?" echoed a chorus of bewildered voices, their expressions twisting with a mix of disbelief and concern as the weight of the revelation settled in.
"The voice you heard is telling you that it smells blood?" Madam Pomfrey inquired, her concern mirroring the uncertainty that hung heavily in the room, hesitant to comprehend the implications of Mia's haunting experience.
"Yes," Mia confirmed solemnly, her voice betraying the gravity of the situation, sending a shiver through the assembled group.
The younger students trembled visibly, their fearful expressions a haunting reflection of the terror that had gripped them. Meanwhile, the teachers, older students, and onlookers sat frozen, their own fear and helplessness mirroring the plight of those in their care, each caught in the suffocating grip of the unsettling revelation.
Hermione: [she and Ron just appear out of nowhere] Mia...
"Merlin, Hermione!" Dean exclaimed, jolted from his movie-induced trance by Hermione's sudden appearance.
Hermione's sudden interruption startled everyone in the Hall. They had been listening to a chilling voice uttering the word 'kill' when Hermione and Ron's abrupt entrance shocked them all.
"Don't do that again," scolded Blaise, clutching his heart as he tried to calm the rapid beat. The sinister backdrop of the eerie disembodied voice only heightened the tension in the room.
Mia: Did you hear it?
Ron: [concerned and confused] Hear what?
Mia: That voice.
Hermione: [getting concerned as well] Voice? What voice?
"You two didn't hear it?" Remus asked the pair, his concern evident in his tone.
"No. We didn't," Ron confirmed, as Hermione adamantly shook her head in agreement. The tension in the room swelled, with the disconcerting realization that the haunting voice had selectively targeted its audience.
Mia: I heard it first in Lockhart's office, and then, again, just-- [she hears the voice once more]
Ominous Voice: It's time.
Mia: [getting tense] It's moving. I think it's going to kill.
Ron: [as Mia runs past them down the corridor] "Kill"?
Hermione: [she and Ron run after her] Mia, wait! Not so fast!
"You want her to slow down, when there's something on the loose that wants to kill?!" Charlie asked incredulously, shaking his head in disbelief at the suggestion.
"You don't want her to slow down, when there's something on the loose that wants to kill?" Seamus retorted, He vehemently rejected the notion that Mia's life should be put at risk for the safety of others, his impassioned defense underscoring the gravity of the situation.
[Mia stops in the middle of the corridor, then looks down to see the floor is wet before walking to the right. Ron and Hermione run to catch up with her; they stop abruptly as they see numerous spiders scurrying away through a crack in the window.]
Ron shivered involuntarily, his eyes clouded with a haunting memory that gripped him with a visceral fear. Witnessing his distress, a pang of guilt tugged at Fred and George, the realization sinking in that their past pranks had inadvertently sown the seeds of unease in their younger sibling.
Mia: Strange... I've never seen spiders act like that.
Ron: I don't like spiders. [they then glance at something else on the floor] What's that?
Hermione: [they gaze at a puddle of water, where they can see what appears to be bloody writing, then look up at the wall to see foreboding words written in blood which Hermione reads] "The Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Enemies of the Heir, beware." It's written in blood.
Many stiffened even further at the unsettling mention of words written in blood, their apprehension heightening as the weight of the situation intensified.
"Lies! There is no such thing as the Chamber of Secrets. It's just an old legend, a scary story. It doesn't exist," Umbridge asserted, her voice tinged with righteous indignation as she vehemently rejected the notion.
Mia was about to confront Umbridge when she felt Sirius grasp her arm, the urgency in his and Remus's expressions urging her to reconsider her stance.
"There really isn't a Chamber of Secrets, is there, Prongslet?" Sirius asked desperately, a note of apprehension lacing his words as he grappled with the possibility of Mia being in further danger. Despite his words, an underlying unease gnawed at him.
Mia sighed, realizing she didn't want to spoil the experience for the others. "I'll spoil the fun part," she said with a knowing smile before turning back to the screen. A shared look with Hermione and Ron affirmed their decision not to reveal the movie's secrets, allowing others to experience the unfolding mystery for themselves.
Molly held a tight grip on Ron and Hermione as the scene played out before her. As the legend of the Chamber of Secrets loomed ominously, everyone present grappled with a mix of apprehension and hope that it remained a mere legend.
She couldn't help but hope that Mia was mistaken this time. The Slytherins' excitement about the Chamber only served to magnify the collective sense of dread. Did it truly exist, and if so, would they dare to seek it out?
Mia: [looks to the left] Oh, no. [Hermione follows Mia's gaze and gasps when she sees what she is seeing; she walks toward a torch on the wall, tied to the torch is Mrs. Norris, frozen and seemingly scared by something] It's Filch's cat. It's Mrs. Norris. [behind them, Percy walks into the corridor, leading the other Gryffindor house students]
"Always at the wrong place in the wrong time," George remarked, his tone reflecting a touch of exasperation.
"Oh, you have the worst luck ever!" Fred chimed in, his words laced with a mix of amusement and sympathy. Their lighthearted exchange offered a brief respite from the prevailing tension, drawing a knowing smile from the others in the group. Even in the midst of uncertainty, the pair's camaraderie offered a fleeting moment of levity.
[Soon enough, the corridor fills with students, who gaze at the bloody writing and Mrs. Norris, Madame Pomfrey expresses horror and shock; Colin gets his camera ready, but Percy stops her.]
Draco: "Enemies of the Heir, beware." [glances at the Gryffindor house students] You'll be next, Mudbloods. [Ron scowls and glares at him]
The tense and absorbing atmosphere surrounding the discussion of the Chamber of Secrets kept everyone spellbound, rendering Draco's behavior unnoticed. The mounting tension and unease had ensnared the attention of all present, leaving no room to address Draco's actions.
The collective unease of the group held steadfast, with the air heavy with apprehension over the unfolding events in the movie. In the midst of this heightened tension, Draco's actions seemed to slip by, overshadowed by the pressing mystery and uncertainty that commanded everyone's focus.
Filch: What's going on here? [pushing his way through the crowd] Go on, make way, make way. [glares at Mia] Potter... what are you...? [gazes past Mia at the frozen form of his cat and trembles] Mrs. Norris? [glares at Mia again] You murdered my cat.
"Oh, no," murmured a student, capturing the sense of apprehension that seemed to permeate the gathering. The unsettling mention of the Chamber of Secrets had cast a shadow over the group, intensifying the unease and trepidation shared by both students and outsiders alike. A palpable sense of foreboding seemed to weave its way through the room, leaving everyone feeling on edge as the weight of the unfolding mystery continued to settle in.
Mia: No. No.
Filch: [as Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle grin] I'll kill you. [smiles wickedly at Mia then grabs her by the shirt] I'll kill you!
"Get the bloody hell away from her, you BASTARD!" Sirius bellowed at the screen, the intensity of his voice echoing the protective ferocity as he reacted to the unfolding scene. The palpable concern in Sirius's outburst resonated with everyone in the room, his fierce protectiveness striking a chord with the shared sentiment of anxiety and unease.
Dumbledore: Argus?
"Oh, thank Merlin," echoed the collective sigh of relief that seemed to ripple through the room.
[Filch lets go of Mia; the students step aside as Professors Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Snape arrive on the scene] Argus, I... [he glances at the writing on the wall] Everyone will proceed to their dormitories immediately. [the students turn to leave; Mia, Ron, and Hermione follow] Everyone except [Mia, Ron, and Hermione stop] you three. [they turn to face him]
"You three have bad luck," Charlie remarked.
"You have no idea," Mia replied, her tone tinged with a hint of resignation, while Ron and Hermione nodded in unison, acknowledging the string of unfortunate incidents that seemed to trail them..
Ravenclaw Prefect: [the other students all depart] Ravenclaws, follow me.
Dumbledore: She's not dead, Argus. [Filch trembles, presumably from relief and confusion] She has been petrified.
"Petrified?" Charlie inquired with a quizzical expression, the mention of such a phenomenon stirring his curiosity.
"What kind of creature Petrifies people?" Sirius directed the question to Remus, who simply shrugged.
The revelation sparked contemplation among everyone present, except those directly involved, as they began to ponder the nature of the creature responsible. The new perspective shifted their focus from the attacks and the individuals behind them to the enigmatic creature that had caused them.
Lockhart: Ah. Thought so. So unlucky I wasn't there. I know exactly the countercurse that could've spared her.
"Is there such a thing?" a year student queried, voicing the collective uncertainty that lingered in the air.
"Not to my knowledge, I'm afraid." Dumbledore responded, his tone carrying a sense of authority and assurance, as the other teachers murmured their agreements.
Dumbledore: [smiles and nods] But how she has been petrified I cannot say.
Filch: [gesturing towards Mia] Ask her. It's her that done it. You saw what she wrote on the wall.
"You foul man!" Molly exclaimed, her voice trembling with a mix of fury and disgust that reverberated through the room.
Mia: It's not true, sir. I swear. I never touched Mrs. Norris.
Filch: Rubbish.
Snape: If I might, headmaster. Perhaps Potter and her friends were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, the circumstances are suspicious. I for one don't recall seeing Potter at dinner.
"I guess this movie just cleared our names in this case, Professor?" Mia suggested, casting a pointed gaze at Snape.
"So it would seem," McGonagall concurred, in tacit agreement with her student. Snape, however, sneered at them both, but abruptly stopped when McGonagall fixed him with a hard, uncompromising glare. The unspoken tension between the two adults added an undercurrent of conflict to the uneasy atmosphere.
Lockhart: I'm afraid that's my doing, Severus. You see, Mia was helping me answer my fanmail.
Hermione: That's why Ron and I went looking for her, Professor. We just found her when she said... [looks at Mia]
Snape: Yes, Ms. Granger?
Mia: When I said I wasn't hungry.
"Why didn't you tell them, Mia?" Colin inquired, his voice tinged with confusion and concern.
"You'll see really soon why I didn't, Colin," Mia replied cryptically, a note of solemnity in her voice, hinting at the weight of the knowledge she carried. Her response deepened the air of anticipation and unease, leaving a sense of foreboding that seemed to hang heavily in the room.
[Snape turns towards her] We were heading back to the common room when we found Mrs. Norris. [Ron nods; Snape turns towards Professor Dumbledore]
Dumbledore: Innocent until proven guilty, Severus.
Filch: [as Snape smiles slightly] My cat has been petrified. I want to see some punishment!
Dumbledore: We will be able to cure her, Argus. As I understand it, Madame Sprout has a very healthy growth of Mandrakes. When matured, a potion will be made, which will revive Mrs. Norris. [Filch trembles] And in the meantime, I strongly recommend caution... to all. [Mia, Ron, and Hermione nod.]
The trio couldn't help but snort in wry amusement at their seemingly perpetual entanglement in trouble,
[Moments later, they are walking along the Grand Staircase, as the numerous staircases change.]
Hermione: [as they ascend the stairs] It's a bit strange isn't it?
Mia: "Strange"?
Hermione: [turns to face her] You hear this voice, a voice only you can hear, and then Mrs. Norris turns up petrified. It's just... strange.
"It is very strange," Luna mused softly, her serene demeanor belying the depth of her curiosity and concern.
Ginny shivered, a flicker of uncertainty and determination dancing in her eyes as she contemplated the implications of the unfolding mystery. Her unresolved questions from her first year cast a shadow of unease, and the hope that the current revelations might hold the answers she sought added a palpable sense of urgency to her thoughts.
Ginny sensed someone staring at her, so she turned and locked eyes with Mia, who flashed her a comforting smile, silently assuring her that everything would be alright. In response, Ginny offered a small, uneasy smile, trying to convey her uncertainty without saying a word.
Mia: You think I should've told them, Dumbledore and the others, I mean?
Ron: Are you mad?
Hermione: No, Mia. Even in the wizarding world, hearing voices isn't a good sign. [turns and walks along]
"And that's why I didn't tell them," Mia stated, her voice carrying a mixture of solemnity and resolve.
Man in Painting: She's right, you know. [Mia and Ron glance at him, then walk along]
