Chapter 4 - Redeemed
Both Malachi and Semelia are quiet for a while as they ride along in the car. Semelia looks at Malachi for a bit studying his face and features. Then as she looks at him she simply asks, "Why? Why did you buy me? You heard those men - I'm a short, stupid, ugly girl." Her eyes drop down and she stares at the floor of the car.
Malachi looks down at the small, black girl for a bit then replies "Lift up your head child. You are nothing like those men said. You've been given a very special gift, but you need moved to another place where that gift can be used for God." He pauses, shifting in his seat to face her more and motions with his hands like he's holding something valuable and precious. He continues, "It's like I'm moving a very rare plant from a dry, barren junkyard to a garden with deep, rich, moist soil."
Still confused and incredulous, her only reply is, "Oh..."
At the airport, they board a small black and silver private jet with "BKO&G"* markings. The small jet takes off on a south-west course.
Once they're in the air, Malachi opens his briefcase and pulls out a thin manila folder. He turns to Semelia and says, "Since you're starting a new life, it only makes sense that you need a new name and identity." As he hands her the folder he continues, "These are the documents which confirm your new identity. From now on your name will be Faith... Faith Zacharias."
She thinks for a bit, then repeats it out loud, "Faith... Faith Zacharias... Oh, I love it!" and she begins to cry.
The plane touches down shortly on a beautiful island airstrip. As it taxis to the terminal Faith sees the welcome signs and exclaims, "Antigua! I've heard it's one of the most beautiful islands in the world!"
"I suppose it is," responds Malachi.
Malachi ushers Faith to another waiting car - this time an almost brand-new BMW sedan. The shiny black car pulls out of the airport and heads for the only mountain on the island. About forty minutes later, they're halfway up Boggy Peak when they pull into the driveway of a very old Franciscan monastery. As they exit the vehicle and head toward the wrought-iron gate, Malachi says, "This is Saint Mary's Parish. This will be your new home." They are met at the gate by two kind-faced people - the man is older-looking in his sixties and the woman looks to be about forty.
Malachi introduces Faith to them. "This is Father Benedictine and this is Sister Eunice," Malachi says. "They will be your parents now. Listen to them, learn from them and obey." He bows slightly to Faith, tipping his hat toward her and says, "Now I must bid you good-day."
Sensing this is good-bye, she rushes past his outstretched hands and hugs him tightly around the waist. Looking up at him she says, "Goodbye mister... mister..."
"Malachi... Just Malachi," he says simply.
"A-and thank you," Faith says, her voice a bit shaky with emotion, but more joy than sorrow.
"Don't thank me," he says pointing up. "I'm just doing my job".
With that, he gently hugs her back as if almost afraid he'll break her, then kisses her on top of the head.
Malachi turns to go to the car and Faith turns to go up the sidewalk, arm-in-arm with Eunice and Benedictine. When she hears the car door open, she whirls around and calls out to him, "I'll never forget you, Mr. Malachi!" He smiles, give a brief wave and gets in the car.
Song by Big Daddy Weave "Redeemed" plays:
All my life I have been called unworthy
Named by the voice of my shame and regret
But when I hear You whisper, "Child lift up your head"
I remember, oh God, You're not done with me yet
As the three continue on up toward the monastery, Sister Eunice tells Faith, "You can go anywhere you like on the grounds, but you mustn't leave the grounds alone until we say so, okay?"
Faith nods in agreement, "Okay".
Later that evening right before bedtime, with Father Benedictine and Sister Eunice watching and smiling from a window, Faith, clad only in her new cotton nightgown and slippers, dances and spins for joy out into the courtyard.
The rest of "Redeemed" by Big Daddy Weave plays:
I am redeemed, You set me free
So I'll shake off these heavy chains
Wipe away every stain, yeah, I'm not who I used to be
Oh, God, I'm not who I used to be
Jesus, I'm not who I used to be
'Cause I am redeemed
Thank God, redeemed
Several nights later, Faith watches as a scene unfolds in front of her. A family is on the run. Something is after the man, his daughter and his son. They're all very scared. She calls to them, "Run! Don't look back! Keep running!"
"Wait, something's wrong..." She says to herself "Something I'm not seeing yet. What is it? Ohh, the boy isn't scared at all! The boy is the one they should be running from!"
She calls out to them, "It's the boy! It's your son! He's the demon!"
Suddenly Faith awakes to find herself in her new bed in the monastery. It was a dream! She looks around her room and there just a few feet away is Sister Eunice clad in her nightwear, sitting in a simple wooden rocking chair with a laptop on her lap typing away. She reaches over to Faith and gently wipes the perspiration from her forehead with a soft, wet cloth. "There, there, dear Faith, it was just a dream. You've had dreams like this before?"
"Yes Mum, many times," she answers.
"And they're all vivid dreams like this one?" Sister Eunice asks.
"Yes Mum."
"Okay, good. You're using your gift now, dear. Now you must start from the beginning of the dream and tell me all the details you can remember from the dream, okay?" Sister Eunice asks.
"Yes Mum," Faith answers.
"All of the things you saw will happen to a family someday," says Sister Eunice. "And we'll get this information to Jonah so he can find them and help them."
"To who...?" Faiths asks.
"Jonah... He's the warrior whom you're helping. You're his eyes into the spirit realm," says Sister Eunice.
Faith smiles and sighs a sigh on contentment. Sitting up in her bed she begins, "Well, it looked a small town in the country, in America for sure. I saw a sign that read...."
