December's Sway
Warm day in December
Started with clouds of gray
Rain stops and sun peeks out
And brightens my pathway
Hear young squeals of laughter
As hide and seek ensues
Sun streams through my windows
Chasing my winter blues
Step out to feel warm breeze
Lay peanuts on deck rail
Whistle to call critters
Feel lungs do quick exhale
Dry leaves start to rustle
Squirrels race for nutty treat
Hear loud calls of blue jays
Arrival not discreet
Sharp trill of chickadee
Followed by cardinal's tweet
Titmouse first to fly in
To land on tiny feet
Hopping along bare branch
Woodpecker catches eye
But she does not fly in
Often, she is too shy
Squirrels squabble in backyard
With each peanut I throw
When all mouths are nibbling
Peace now reigns below
Sun falls behind bare trees
A chill creeps through my shirt
Time to fix my dinner
Cranberries for dessert
