Untitled Part 27
I run. I keep running until the terrain becomes familiar. I know what I have to do. I know why both the silver and black Dragon chose me. I run to the place I saw in the flashback. There I feel both the temperature of the cave drop and I feel the glow of the hearts shrink.
The rock! My mind screams at me.
Run! Logic screams in reply
The hearts only whimper at the sight
I follow the feeling in my gut that this is what I should do and walk to the rock. The hearts become almost painful in my chest the further I go but I ignore them in order to not think. I make better decisions when I don't think. I save the world when I act on impulse.
I trace the cross that thedragon painted painted to symbolize herself. Under my finger the white residue becomes hot and starts glowing. I gasp but keep my finger on the rock. Tracing the dot with delicacy. As soon as I touch my finger to it, the dot glows silver and the glow leaves my chest. I make a small pleased sound and trace the spiral with urgency, wanting the invading hearts gone. The dragon does not disappoint and leaves my chest, the white spiral now gone and replaced by what looks like a painted black spiral.
The only thing left is the line and I trace it. A slight jump in the rock at the point added to an otherwise smooth rock. My finger leaves behind a trail of red and when I finish I check my finger for cuts only to find it with a trace of a line of red from where the bump on the rock had cut me. The lines on the rock sit there for a second before all 4 sketches glow warningly and then dim. A small smile appears on my face as the rock drains of all sketches with a sigh. A second later the mark appears on my wrist and the world explodes in pain.
Soon I lie on the floor, looking at the ceiling as 3 distinct, a live dragons appear and watch me. The white dragon looks at me in pity as the black Dragon fumbles to help me. I hear a voice say "nothing ends. It's just an endless cycle. Someone will find him dead and blame someone else. It will be a repeat of our story for all eternity". I clench my teeth though and say "this is your fate, not mine", that earns me a soft laugh from all three of them.
"Fate? Fate is for humans and gods. We are above that" the silver dragon says with what I guess is what's supposed to be a reassuring tone. I shake my head with a laugh "I will not end like you did. I refuse to. I will not curse anyone on my deathbed" I say. At that their eyes widen and the black Dragon smiles slightly "you are better than us" they say with their eyes sympathetic.
As the last breath drains from my lungs I understand that nobody will ever know of the deed I committed on my deathbed. I feel sad for my friends and family that I am leaving them once again but I have hope that I will turn up in Elysium.
With that I close my eyes, feeling like I made the difference that I had wanted to make since childhood
