Day 1

Erza's POV - SATURDAY

It was late afternoon when I arrived. The manor was in a secluded area within Magnolia, it was surrounded by tall oak trees and a large blue river. Picturesque if you ask me.

My uncle had left me his manor in his will, I was his only niece and since he never married, I was also the closest thing he had to a daughter.

In all honesty, I'd never heard of him before let alone met him. They found out about me through a letter he had left on his writing desk in his study, it said something about how he had left me at an orphanage when I was younger because when my parents passed away he felt that he was too irresponsible of a person to care for a child. They were able to identify me because he'd given my full name and the orphanage I was left at.

He had died from blood loss due to an accident, the crime scene investigators said that it looked like he'd fallen from a window in the attic, he was painting then the ladder gave way and he fell out the window. It seemed too crazy to be true; I felt like it could have been on purpose, that he was actually murdered... but what would I know? I'd never met him so how could I know that he'd have enemies who wanted to get rid of him.

Plus he had no close family members, other than myself, who could have been a suspect. In fact, the police informed me that he had no contact with anyone at all. A couple of years back he had been diagnosed with borderline insanity but somehow managed to squirm his way out of being sent to solitary confinement. How? I have no idea. He was rich so I assume that money had an important role to play in that story.

"It was an unfortunate accident for him, but a golden opportunity for you." An officer had told me, after explaining that everything my uncle owned, the manor, the money, the land around the manor and his belongings were now mine.

I left that officer alone as quickly as I could, being around someone who could overlook a death for riches disgusted me. My uncles death hit me hard, although I never truly knew him I lost the last blood relative I had left.

Who wouldn't feel distraught by that fact?

Letting out a small sigh, I took my suitcase out of the small taxi and paid the driver for the journey.

"Keep the change," I added before making my way up to the front door. The key was in my left hand, it didn't help that I was shaking slightly. After a small struggle I managed to insert the key into the door and twist it, there was a loud clink sound and then the door swung open.

The hallway was incredibly long and made a sharp left turn about 7 metres down. There was a cost rack to the right side of the door which I was thankful for. I hung up my coat and dragged my suitcase along the floor, examining the walls as I moved.

The floor was a dark brown oak and the walls were covered in burgundy wallpaper with floral patterns. The windows overlooked the lake and the forest, other than that there was nothing interesting... No paintings, no pictures... Nothing.

I looked around the house for a bit, exploring the main rooms on the ground floor first then slowly making my way upstairs. I had been told that there were 4 floors, the ground floor, first floor, second floor and the attic. The attic didn't sound appealing and back at the orphanage I lived on the first floor, so I found an untouched room and claimed it as my own.

Inside the room was a queen-sized bed with plain red covers and a white blanket. At the far right wall was a brown desk, covered in a thin layer of dust and pieces of paper were scattered around.

I picked one up, coughing as I got rid of the dust. My uncle's handwriting was difficult to read at first, but I was able to make out one or two phrases here and there.

'Dangerous man........... Game to ............ Life and ............'

Maybe he was writing a story? There weren't any neighbours to ask, so I had no clue as to whether he was a cheerful, loud man or one who remained indoors and shut away from society.

I continued to read through the papers, upon further inspection I thought that they could have been ripped out from a journal of some sort since the sides of the papers were jagged. Thinking nothing of it, I turned over the page I was currently holding and was about to read it when I froze.

I should probably explain this.

Ever since I was a little girl, I could sense other people around me. Thanks to this strange gift, I was one of the best students at the karate class I attended. No one else had this thing so I guessed that it was a family thing, that my parents were good fighters and needed this sixth sense.

But of course most people just waved it off and said I was pulling on their leg.

I wish they were right.

Anyway, I froze because I sensed someone else in the house with me. I didn't make a sound as I placed the paper back on the desk and made my way to the door of the room. The person was down the hallway. There was only one person as far as I could tell, when they moved there was one pair of footsteps and one pair alone. Trying my best not to make a sound, I tip-toed my way towards them and held my breath.

When I got close enough, I was able to hear their breathing. Just as I was about to turn the corner and see who was there, I realised that there was no one. The breathing I heard must have been my own, I thought.

The whole 'sensing someone' thing didn't really work for me that day. I mean, I'd feel someone's presence but then find that I was alone.

I wish that it wasn't doing this to me. Especially when I tried to get to sleep.

***

My dinner mainly consisted of the cake I had bought from the local bakers when I was travelling to the manor and some microwave ready meal which tasted awful.

The dining room table was made for about fifteen people, but that night it was only meant for one. I sat at the side rather than the head, I didn't like thinking that I was the leader. In my eyes I saw everyone as equal and hardly ever sat near the ends of tables; but when I was at school I sat at the head of the table so I had some space.

The candles were lit an let off an ominous glow, I couldn't help but shudder after a while. There was a majestic looking chandelier above me which felt like it was going to fall at any moment. After shaking off the jitters, I finished my meal and cleaned up the plates in the kitchen. I left the washed cutlery and plates in their places and dragged myself up the stairs and off to bed.

My pyjamas were comfy and smelt of strawberries, something which the manor didn't have. I'm buying strawberry spray, it'll help make the place feel more like my old room and will improve the smell one hundred percent. I smiled after thinking out my plan and went to the en suite bathroom. Inside was a large bathtub and a separate shower, the toilet was beside the sink and above the sink was a large mirror. My reflection showed a tired red head who needed some sleep.

It also showed a zombie.

I needed sleep desperately.

I washed my face and tied up my long hair before brushing my teeth and shooting the mirror-me a toothy grin.

"Erza Scarlet you are one fine looking girl."

Then I dragged my feet across the floor and threw myself into bed.

It wasn't difficult to find a nice position to sleep in, but it was tricky to actually fall asleep. I was so used to sharing a room with people that the silence was deafening. It was like you would have to cut it with a sharp knife because it was so thick. What freaked me out was when I was about to fall asleep at eleven and an owl hooted. Because of that, I couldn't sleep for another hour.

Midnight is not the best hour to be awake at in an empty manor.

I listened to music on my phone for a bit, tried to calm down and tried to feel at peace so sleep would be easier to get. It worked for a while, after six songs I yawned.

Yawning is good.

Do you know what isn't good?

Hearing something fall from the roof and a sickening splat sound outside your window.

Leaping out from my bed, I put on my dressing gown ran down the hallway making my way to the stairs and after putting on my shoes, I threw open the door and hurried over to the area which my room overlooked.

My hand slapped over my mouth to stop me from screaming.

There, surrounded by a pool of dark red blood, was a body of a man who I did not recognise. He had what looked like blue hair and his face was in the dirt. It wasn't easy to see for sure what he looked like because it was so dark and I forgot to grab a light on the way out. Probably because I was too busy rushing outside to see whether or not a person had thrown them self off of my roof.

I made the decision to rush back inside, light a candle and go back outside. When I got back, the body was gone. A horrifying chill ran down my spine, the man had vanished, but the blood was still there so I knew that I wasn't imagining things.

"I-I'm just dreaming... Yes, that's it." Shaking my head, I tried my best to laugh it all off. "What do you do when you're dreaming and you know it...? Oh right, you pinch yourself."

My arm ached after I tried waking up. Turns out that pinching won't work, most likely because I wasn't dreaming.

"You could also try wiping your eyes, I've found that helpful nine out of ten times."

"Hm? Oh thanks-," My blood ran cold and goosebumps covered my skin. To explain more about how scared I was, the hairs on the back of my neck stood to attention. I didn't know that voice, and I didn't know where this person came from.

"What's wrong sweetheart? You seem, scared." The voice was a man's and damn it sounded sexy, but I was unable to appreciate that at the time because A) I was scared out of my mind, B) I had seen and witnessed a body disappearing and C) there was someone standing behind me who I didn't know.

"I-I...." I don't remember what I said next, but I do remember fainting.

***

I awoke in my bed, it was just past one in the morning and I was covered in sweat.

"That, was the strangest dream ever."

"Oh really? What happened?"

A scream escaped my lips as I turned to face the owner of the voice. He placed his hand over my mouth and placed a finger over his, motioning for me to be silent.

"I never knew the old man had a daughter, especially one so-,"

"Man! This place is huge!" My eyes travelled over to the door of the room and fell upon a salmon haired boy around my age who was looking around the room in awe. "Who knew the old fart was hiding all of these rooms from the outside world?" As soon as he saw me his mouth formed the shape of an O.

"Mmfh." I tried to speak but the blue haired boy's hand prevented any words from forming properly.

"She's new." The salmon boy nodded at me. "Hey there girlie, whatcha doin' here?"

"Don't be stupid Natsu," blue boy said, rolling his eyes. "It's obvious that she was staying here." He gestured to my suitcase with his free hand. "Plus my hand is over her mouth so it's not like she'll be talking right -,"

Rude.

"Yowch!" He cried out, "She bit me!" Yanking his hand away, he held it close to his chest and looked at me with big eyes.

"You really shouldn't have done that." I said, forgetting how freaked out I was for a moment.

The boy called Natsu laughed. "Isn't it usually the other way around?"

"Huh?"

"Never mind." He shook his head. "So lovely lady who bites people, what's your name?"

"Why do you care?"

"Oh, feisty. She's got guts talking to us like this."

"Shut it," the blue haired boy snapped. "Just tell us your name."

"Why?"

He sighed then looked at Natsu. "Do you think we should?"

"By we do you mean you?"

"I guess."

"You use your seductive powers oh great one." Natsu snickered. "Take it easy, she did just y'know... Faint after your little fiasco."

"I told you not to push me," He growled. Suddenly, he grabbed my chin and forced me to look at him.

"Hey! What're you-!"

"So," he kept eye-contact with me and smiled. "I'll ask you again, what's your name?"

"E-Erza Scarlet." The words were out before I could stop myself. Something about his look made me wonder if that was how he was getting me to talk, but those thoughts turned to mush as he asked me other questions.

"Well then, Erza," He grinned even more. "How old are you?"

"Seventeen."

"How are you attached to this place?"

"My uncle was living here, then he died and everything he owned was entrusted to me in his will." I couldn't stop talking, but I couldn't fight the control this stranger had over me. His gaze made me feel funny, my heart was pounding so loudly that I feared they could hear it.

"Your uncle?" The two boys shared a glance. "Do you know how he died?"

"Blood loss due to an accident, I wasn't told what."

"Course you weren't." Natsu giggled. "Bet none of them knew what caused his blood loss."

"Shush Natsu. Let me finish with Erza."

I gulped and closed my eyes as blue boy looked at salmon.

That was when whatever grip blue boy had on me faded. He must have realised this too because he yelled at me to open my eyes. Of course I refused and I yanked my head backwards out of his grip.

I'd taken a couple of steps back before I spoke, "Get out of my home."

"Your home? C'mon we've been lurking for the past-," Natsu's voice started to speak but it was muffled, probably by blue boy's bitten hand.

"Yes, my home. Now leave before I call the police." I tried to sound as threatening as I could, to my friends the voice I was speaking with now was scary enough; but it felt like blue boy wasn't phased by anything.

"What will they do?"

"Arrest you, what else?"

"That won't be enough."

I opened one of my eyes and saw the two boys looking at me, Natsu was looking grumpy but blue boy was smiling.

"I like this one."

"Really Jellal?"

Jellal. So that's his name. I thought.

Jellal laughed and folded his arms. "You know what, Erza Scarlet? I'll let you live."

"Huh?"

"You don't really believe that your uncle died to blood loss by accident do you?"

"W-Well it's not impossible."

"How we all love a dreamer." He sighed.

"Jellal can't we just drink her blood now?"

"What!?" I shouted.

"Shush sweetheart, I'm trying to speak." Jellal hushed me. "I'm going to make a deal you can't refuse. Literally."

"Why is that?"

"Because if you do refuse, I'll let Natsu here drink your blood."

"What, is he a vampire?" I laughed.

"Bingo." Natsu winked.

What.

"My deal is that I'll give you one month. If you can resist me for that time, then you're free to go. Live here until your human days are over and then your children can live here ya-dah-ya-dah." He waved his arms around at the last phrase, then he stopped and flashed me a devilishly handsome smile. "However, if you fail and fall for my seductive powers then I get to call you mine and do whatever I want with you. Which also leads to me killing you by drinking all of your blood and leaving you for the authorities to find. Another awful 'accident'."

"Seductive powers? Isn't that cheating?"

"What do you mean?"

"Well, you already proved to me earlier that you guys have some weird sort of mind control. That's how you got me to answer your questions," the boys nodded, following what I was saying. "So you already have an advantage. You could win the deal at any moment."

"You're smart. I made a similar deal with your uncle, but his was if he told me a secret I wanted to know. He lost, obviously."

"Dick." I mumbled under my breath.

"I'm going to ignore that comment and improve this game," Jellal put his hand out for me to shake. "I'll only use my seductive powers at night, and I won't force you to open your eyes or to look at me eye-to-eye. See? I'm being generous."

I looked at his hand then back at his face, not making eye contact though.

Natsu piped up, "Scarlet, you should take this deal. This is him being nice."

"...Alright then." I shook his hand then felt a horrid sinking feeling. At best I could last a week... Hopefully.

"Brilliant, oh and just so you are aware Miss Scarlet we are vampires and to seal this deal, I'm just going to drink a bit of your blood..."

W-What?!

"...From your fingertip," His grin now revealed his fangs. "I won't bite your neck until you fall for me."

Reluctantly I gave him my hand and looked away. I felt a tiny prick as he drank some blood, his fang felt cold and my finger began to ache. When he was done, a thought popped into my head.

"This is another little add-on I'd like to share with you, Jellal." He looked up, interest showed on his pale face. "The rules you've given are as good as they'll get I believe, but if you fall for me... Then just know that you will leave me alone for eternity."

He chuckled, "As you wish. Natsu, let's get going."

"Bye Erza."

The two vampires left me alone in my room, and when they were out of earshot I fell back onto my bed and closed my eyes.

What had I gotten myself in to?
