"What are we gonna do with the kid?"
"That villain's going straight to jail and she never even bothered to register the child."
"The father is unknown. The child looks like she was homeschooled and there's no record of relatives anywhere."
"I personally don't agree with sending her to an orphanage. With her background, it'll be a miracle if she gets adopted."
"Yeah... Poor girl."
The voices outside continued in the silence of the night, indiscriminately fueling the already searing mixture of frustration and pain inside the young female. Their tones were low and in whispers, like some pathetic attempt of respect for ruining a 9-year-old girl's birthday and the rest of her life.
"Shut up...", she gritted my teeth, nails digging into the leather seats of the police car they had locked her in. The braids her mother spent half an hour to do had gotten loose and messy, strands of naturally pink hair stuck to a face red from crying for an hour straight. Lilac eyes glared, tear after tear falling and creating small wet patches on the carpeted floor.
They took her... She had her guard down because it was my birthday... I-It's all my fault... Mama...
Her mother had always warned her daughter about this day, the day her baneful past will finally catch up to their family and pull the two apart. The day Aine can no longer see her Mama waiting for her from school with brand new clothes and a warm hug. When she would have to brave the world without her only parent by her side. The pair had cherished everyday together like it was their last... but no one warned the little Miryoku that it would hurt this much.
The sight of her mother forced down on the hard ground and restrained like some wild animal will forever be buried in her nightmares. She would never forget the way this heroes held her back from coming to her mother's aide, daring to look at her with pity after what they have done.
More voices joined outside yet endless sobs drowned out each one. Her own quirk felt the turmoil of emotions within her small body, hints of dark blue dust clouding her vision. She felt like thrashing everything in sight and screaming till her lungs burned. She wanted to yell at everyone for taking away her home. She wanted them to feel the same anguish and heartbreak they had done to their family.
She wanted to make them pay.
Yet the little girl kept everything inside, choking down her sobs and forcing tears to hide. Biting her lip, she silenced the continuous hiccups scratching the back of her throat. She wiped off the tears with the blanket over her shoulders and dried off the stains of her own grief, padding the skirt of her little pink dress and lifting her head. Her Mama had always said that no matter the place or time, a true lady must always be dignified. She must never let her crown fall.
"Always hold your head high, my princess."
'I will.', Aine promised both herself and her mother. 'Always.'
The older female had always wanted her only daughter, the light of her life and the reason she kept on fighting, to be strong, brave and someone who will not yield to anyone. She wanted Aine to stay firm for her ideals, standing for what she believes in and for what she deserves.
She wanted her little girl to be a woman ─
And that's exactly what she'll be.
