Chapter 39 - Friends
With both sides suffering losses, the Japanese ghouls and the ghouls of Costa Rica returned to their own bases.
They would celebrate that the Kakuja had died, but Koma had....
....died too.
"Hina.....would feel terrible," Kiori mumbled to herself.
"That traitor was the one that killed the ape, not you," Miyo spoke. "You have nothing to worry about."
Kiori sighed, frustrated. "He just died."
"Everyone dies," Miyo said.
Kiori groaned.
Miyo is an ass sometimes, but what she says is always true.
Kiori glanced at Kaneki.
'Who knows.....what the hell he's thinking right now.'
His head shot up as his eyes widened.
"Kaneki....?"
'This smell.'
His eyes were filled with rage.
'I couldn't remember it....anymore clearer.'
"We're speeding up!" He yelled.
"What, why-" Kiori's eyes widened. "It's.....him."
"Damn, I literally forgot about that bastard!" Ayato growled. 'He better not have....'
"It's not your fault."
Their shoes were stained with blood.
It was a horrifying sight.
No...
It was beyond horrifying.
Even stoic Masaki could only widen his eyes...
There was blood. Everywhere.
They did not know how to react...
And so they stood there frozen.
Ichimi and Jiro's lifeless bodies lying down under a tree, a hole through both of their bodies.
That wound was definitely made by a rinkaku.
Ayato took a step forward. A small stumble slowed him down but he continued to run.
"Ayato, wait!" Kiori yelled, chasing after him.
Kaneki continued to stare at their bodies before his eyes widened, running right behind Ayato.
Even Kiori could see it.
Ayato....didn't bother to hide it.
Tears were flowing down his face.....uncontrollably.
Their steps started to slow down as they checked the tents one by one.
Limbs, torn apart.
She slapped a hand onto her mouth.
Faces ripped to shreds till they were barely recognizable.
Hands trembling, she slowly covered up the tent before walking to the other until she froze.
This red cloth.....was....
She clutched onto the cloth tight, before reluctantly entering it.
She dropped on her knees, heavy pants escaping her lips. "Touka's not here.....Irimi's not here...."
She shakily stood up and exited the tent to find Kaneki and the others gathered by one of the tents.
Heart racing, she ran over to them and froze at the sight.
Her mind went blank as her ears rang.
Tears were gathering at the corner of Kaneki's eyes.
Ayato's eyes were wide in horror and rage.
His sister's detached head......stuck onto the tree trunk with a wooden pole straight through it.
Through all the blood, there was still tear stains on her face.
The blue haired teen slowly walked forward and carressed his sister's cheeks.
"This is all.....your fault."
He slowly turned around, tears flowing down his face. "Your fault....half ass."
"Hey, hey, hold on-" Miyo spoke only to be cut off.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Ayato yelled before pulling Kaneki down by his collar. "My sister, Touka....she died because of you."
Kaneki couldn't say a single thing.
"Don't you move this time, alright?" Ayato growled as his kagune sprouted out of his back.
Almost as if they were wings of fire....burning, in rage.
"I SWEAR I'LL RIP YOU TO PIECES THIS TIME-"
"Stop, god fucking damn it!" Kiori cried out, holding Ayato back.
"This time.....definitely...." Ayato whispered as his tears fell silently. "You don't know how much.....she was to me."
"So why....why did you have to appear? Why did you have to come and ruin HER life? MY LIFE?!" Ayato screamed. "Can't you see!? He's after you. YOU'RE the reason they're all dead! YOU'RE the reason we are the only ones left! YOU'RE the reason T-Touka...."
"We're all sad, Ayato. We're all lost. Touka was important to all of us....so stop.....please," Kiori begged. "Touka was special....to all of us."
"To....all of us," Ayato whispered. "Oh.....sure.....of course."
"Stop it," Kiori hugged him tighter, tears flowing down her face as she let out a choked sob.
"Stop....?" Ayato whispered.
"You should....sit down for a while," Kiori wiped away her tears, taking a deep breath. "Kay?"
Ayato nodded slowly before walking away, face blank.
Slowly turning around to face Kaneki, she sighed. "Kane-"
"I'm sorry."
"What...?"
"I'm sorry.....I couldn't protect her," Kaneki muttered, a small smile on his face. "I.....I didn't know what to do. I'm weak. I'm sorry."
".....Kaneki-"
"I'm sorry," Kaneki laughed lightly before turning around and walking away.
"You guys....are so shit," Miyo muttered.
Kiori groaned before brushing her hair. "I'm gonna go....you know. Rinse my face a while and....."
"I'm coming with you," Miyo spoke.
"No, no, you don't need so," Kiori muttered.
"There's enemies nearby. I'm coming," Miyo insisted.
"O...kay."
Splashing some water onto her face, Kiori groaned before sitting down by the river.
"What was she to you?"
Kiori looked back at Miyo who was staring at her.
"A....good friend I guess. We've only known each other for one year and a half. Argue almost everyday," Kiori laughed lightly.
"I see."
"What about you?" Kiori asked. "Any friends in the past?"
"......I had one," Miyo said. "Kinda."
"What happened?"
"Turns out she was using me all along," Miyo shrugged. "It was....against her will though."
"Oh....."
"We were trained to fight, so it was my fault that I fell for her first," Miyo sighed. "I shouldn't have let out any emotions...."
"You're......lesbian...?"
"Yeah," Miyo scoffed with a smile. "Surprising?"
"No- I mean....kinda," Kiori mumbled.
"You kinda remind me of her somehow," Miyo muttered. "No confidence.....weak....whatever."
"Was that....offensive...?"
"Yeah."
"Oh."
There was an awkward silence.
"You....like me?"
Miyo eyed her before sighing. "I don't know. You like me?"
"N-No, I mean, I don't hate you but-"
"You're not lesbian."
"I don't know, I didn't have time to figure out my sexuality and all..." Kiori muttered.
"It's okay, she said she hated me," Miyo said. "It's why I don't.....really trust much people....yeah."
She dusted her palms before standing up with a groan.
"Damn, I haven't told someone this much in so long," She spoke, walking straight towards Kiori who burst into stuttering as her face flushed red.
"I hate her but you're.....kinda special, I guess."
"S-Special?" Kiori stuttered as Miyo squatted down to her height.
She gave her a quick peck on the nose, making Kiori squeak, scooting away.
"Huh, that's quite a big reaction."
"N-No, I-I just-" Kiori stuttered.
"Whatever. You don't like me, but I don't care. I like you. Even if you'll hate me," Miyo spoke, head tilting. "You're special."
Kiori stared at her retreating figure as she disappeared into the woods.
"Me....? Special......"

LOLL NO WORRIES, THEY WONT BE THE OFFICIAL SHIP
There won't really be an actual ship in this story, but if I had to make one 'canon', it would probably be Ayato and Kiori as most of you ship them
I only put a Miyo x Kiori moment in here because I ship them so ye XDD
But as i said, dont worry, its only a small part, and it wont be the official kiori ship.
Anyways, how was the chapter? Who do you think killed Touka and Banjo.
Current tips so far: Canon, Rinkaku. Someone Kaneki, Kiori and Ayato could recognize by smell.
