Chapter 9
Collins groaned as he regained conciseness as he was hit with a searing pain in his left shoulder, and as he turned to it, he noticed it was bent at a crazy angle, however, he couldn't tell if Veronica had separated it or dislocated it.
He could only hope that Devan had made it out of this prison
"He's waking up, finally."
Devan opened his eyes as he saw Veronica standing in front of him.
"It's good your alive. Not fun to torture people when they are asleep." She laughed as Devan tried to keep himself from having a a panic attack, but bracing himself for pain.
"If you already have the key and the map, why do you still need Collins and I?" Devan asked as Veronica patted his shoulder.
"Well, we need Collins to read the map, since it's in some secret code. And, you didn't think I would let you go without a goodbye present, did you?"
"I was hoping." Devan sneered as he pushed his wrists against the metal holding him down as she turned on a screen, where Collins was cradling his left shoulder, making Devan furious.
"What did you do to him?!"
"We weren't gonna leave your big brother out of the fun." She smirked before turning on a speaker. "Collins!"
Collins looked up, looking straight at her with a scowl on his face, laced with pain, as he continued to hold his shoulder while he stood up.
"What do you want, Veronica? Devan escaped."
Veronica cackled at that before moving out of the way before turning back to Collins, who now had a look of shock on his face.
"Oh, you didn't just think it was my Dad, Vanessa and myself, did you? We have a few more recruits."
"I'm the one you want, Veronica. I'm only gonna say this one more time. Let. Devan. GO."
"Hmm, let me think about that..." Veronica said mockingly before turning back to Collins. "Nope. In fact, I'm gonna let you watch him be tortured before my Dad and Vanessa come get you to take them to the tresure."
Veronica left the screen and all Collins could see was his little brother, trying desperately not to cry or have a panic attack, and it shattered Collins heart. This was his fault. If he had just left Devan at the house instead of taking him to the meet and greet, this wouldn't have happened. He would be safe. He was snapped out of his thoughts by the sound of a blowtorch and he saw Veronica holding a knife in her hand.
"What are you doing?"
"You didn't think I was gonna get this hot with a match, did you?" She replied as she out down the blowtorch and walked towards Devan, before grabbing his right arm so he couldn't wiggle away as she pressed the tip into his skin, and dragged. Slowly, making Devan's screams and cries ten times worse, before she had gone from the shoulder down to the bottom of his wrist, before going to his other arm and doing the same as tears brimmed Collins's eyes and guilt filled his heart, but he refused to show Veronica that she was breaking him. He wouldn't give her that satisfaction.
"Well, that didn't work." She groaned before heating the knife again as she slowly cut his right thigh to his lower leg, as he screamed even louder and his breathing became more and more labored before she did the other leg.
Collins couldn't hold back the tears anymore. They came down his cheeks in hot streams, hiccups and gasps as he hugged his knees as well as he could and looked away before Veronica chuckled mockingly.
"There we go. Vanessa will be in there momentarily. She's been ordered not to talk to you, so don't try to hatch any plans with her, and you'll lead them to the tresure. But don't worry, I'll babysit Devan." She laughed before turning off the screen as Collins could only think one thing.
"I'm a failure."
