Chapter 13
Vanessa wiped her sweaty forehead on her arm fourty five minutes later, after being able to get the bullet and bandaging Devan's leg, and whether it was good or bad, Devan had been awake the whole time.
"Alright. That should stop the blood flow for now, or at least slow it down."
"Vanessa...PLEASE, get me out of here." He begged in a whisper, wrapping his cold, pale fingers around her wrist while breathing heavily, and that's when Vanessa realized.
Devan was gonna die unless help came very soon.
"You don't understand, I have to help them save Devan. I know exactly where he is and if we don't save him, he is gonna die." Collins told Leah and Connor, determination clear in his voice, along with the tears brimming his eyes.
"Collins, you could get hurt again. It's best if the authorities get him the help he needs." Leah's Uncle Connor told them before leaving the room as Collins sighed, slumping against the couch.
"I can't lose my brother, Leah."
Leah sat beside him, wrapping her arm around his good shoulder.
"They will save him. I know it."
"No, you don't."
"Collins, I'm gonna pray for Devan's safety, do you wanna join me?" She asked, wrapping her hand around his.
"I'm not really religious, but if you think it'll help, then I will."
"We just have to trust God will bring him through this safely." Leah smiled as she and Collins started whispering their prayers.
Meanwhile, Vanessa heard sirens, then yells from upstairs from her sister and father as Devan cracked his eyes open.
"What's going on?"
"Someone came to save you."
