Part Four
I was laying in a puddle of my own blood. I had decided blood is better then vomit though.
Vomit smells worse and felt nastier when my face fell into it. At least with blood I could pretend it was water.
My head was slumped and my body limp as I laid motionless on the ground.
The sound of the hunters boots clumping against stone had me peeking through my eyelids to the source.
"I thought you said you drugged her." A voice yelled from the mouth of the cave.
"We did." Another hunter yelled back.
A storm itself had come into the cave.
My instincts couldn't help but start to buzz.
Her skin was so dark it was almost purple. Her hair crisp white, wrapped around each other in thick dreadlocks. Her body large with curve. Gold jewelry clamped around her skin.
They already had her locked in chains. An iron mask clamped around her neck. Five guards pushing and pulling her. Two more with weapons pointed at her back.
Yet, they did not hold her.
She thrashed and twisted, fighting every second. She shoved against a guard forcing him into the stone wall. Her elbow came up cutting off his esophagus before two guards yanked on her chain, pulling her away from him.
She jerked away from them, using the momentum to hit another guard. The man went down crying out in pain as her claws gripped his neck.
If I wasn't supposed to be unconscious I would have gotten on my hands and knees and called her my Queen.
More guards ran from the doors surrounding her.
She roared from inside the mask. Her eyes bright and promising death. The shadows seemed to whisper her threats and the promises of misery.
I couldn't turn away as the guards wrapped themselves around her, forcing her to her knees. She bucked and bashed as they dragged her to the side.
The cave quivered at her anger.
Even the doctor came rushing out. She ran from the side, needles in her hands. Her normal joyous, patient face was contorted in fear and panic.
Six guards jumped on top of her keeping her down. Four hunters held her chains low to the ground, keeping her steady, or as steady as possible. A cuff around her neck kept her head bent forward.
The doctor refused to get close. She thrust the long needle into the side of the creature's neck. The yellowy purplish liquid entering her blood stream.
Her body seized, frozen and clamped. It did not last long as she gathered her strength and lunged for the doctor.
The creature shoved her face into the doctors, hissing and growling, eyes crazed.
She jumped away from creature with a shriek. The doctor couldn't catch her balance as she stumbled on top of me. Jolting me.
A cynical smirk covered the female's face behind the mask as she chuckled at the woman's panic.
The hunters shoved her back down.
I could see the energy draining from her. The consequences of the needle taking effect.
She still glared at them with the ferocity of a hurricane. Laughing at the men who gasped to catch their breath. She twisted her chains, eyeing them up. Muttering in a language I did not know.
Peter dared step closer, pulling at the chain around her neck.
Even now, she held her head up high. They may have shackled her, but she would never be their prisoner.
"Listen Sea Bitch." Peter snapped. "There is no escaping, there is only death. You are mine now."
Her gaze zeroed in on him.
In that moment I knew, Peter was a deadman.
Peter didn't seem to notice. He threw the chain down with more force then necessary, but she did not bow her head.
She kept her eyes trained on his back as he walked away. Her hands were curled as if she was imagining getting them around his neck.
I sat quietly, observing the Sea Witch.
Her eyes traveled around the cave for the first time. She grimaced in disgust at the other captives as if they were slugs. As if she was scorned to even share the same air as them.
Her wild sea green eyes flashed to me.
I skirted away from her, cowering into the rock behind me. Folding into myself. I whimpered in panic at her attention.
The same cynical smirk appeared again. She looked down on me and held her nose up. "Quit with the act girl."
I whimpered again, pushing my face further into the stone.
She sighed annoyed, her eyes glaring holes into my head. "You can't play me, fox."
Her eyes held a sea storm. Colours of green swirling inside. The rage of the ocean bottled up and contained.
That and knowledge. Lots and lots of knowledge hid inside her eyes.
And ego. One glance and you could see her ego.
I could even smell it past my rotting skin.
I considered keeping up the act, but that knowledge and ego told me it would be pointless. It would only anger her more.
Slowly I smirked. I relaxed against the damp stone. My shoulders and muscles loosening as I lounged, as if I didn't have my own chains containing me.
I blinked away the fear and replaced it with my signature youthful arrogance. My own sickening smirk graced my lips. "How'd you know?"
The female barked out a laugh, proud she had caught onto my act. "I can spot a fake diamond miles away."
I ignored the insult.
I didn't doubt her. I heard stories about Sea Creatures all my life. I knew the kind of danger and power they were.
Sea creatures were different then any other shifters. Nobody lived long enough to see their other form.
Males were considered monsters and females were called witches. They loved every moment they were feared.
But I had always been a good liar.
My instincts buzzed even more.
I looked at her in awe. "I'm not surprised, you scream power."
She flipped her thick locks over her shoulder and smirked, puffing out her chest. "After all, I am Bahari."
I could not stop my eyes from widening even if I tried.
Sea creatures were scary. Bahari the Sea Bitch was next level.
It astounded me she had been caught.
Rumours surrounded her name all over the unknown world. Even the humans had heard of the famous tyrant.
Bahari was terrible. But right now I needed terrible. So in five seconds, I had my plan figured out.
And I started kissing her ass.
I nodded in respect. "I'm a big fan of your work."
She looked down on me. "Of course you are."
She was known for ripping apart pirate ships. Sending men to their sea graves. Dragging those who crossed her to the bottom of the ocean. Taking the souls away from unsuspecting innocents. The real life Ursula sat in front of me.
"I think you're my hero." I told her. "I want to be you when I grow up."
The female laughed, not giving a rats ass. "Of course you do. I'll give you some advise, fox. Listen well because it's the most important lesson you will ever learn." She even paused for effect. "A name is a powerful thing. Without a name, you are nothing. Forgotten and irrelevant. Build your name and maybe one day someone will remember you. To be feared, you need a name worth remembering."
It was funny because she never asked me for my name.
But I was irrelevant. To the rest of the unknown world, I was a nobody. Everything I had done so far had been in secret.
Creatures didn't know my name. But they would.
I would make sure of it.
I surveyed her again, hiding the calculation in my eyes. "How did a wise, powerful Sea Witch end up here? You don't seem one to kidnap easy."
She sighed irritably. "One too many drinks, and three too many men."
I smiled widely, shocked and impressed by her abrasiveness.
She smirked deeply. "It was a hell of a night."
I chuckled with her, paying attention to every word.
She cursed in that language I didn't know, glaring at the filth around her, including me. "All at fault of mine. The sound of these creatures screams have always been a nuisance to me, and now I will join them."
I raised a brow. "What do you mean?"
"I find their bodies all over my ocean. Washed up on my door step. It's disgusting. I do not belong with you lowlifes stupid enough to be captured by these hunters." She huffed. "I belong in my castle, surrounded by my servants and admirers."
"This place has been around for a while?" I asked innocently.
"They have been experimenting for years. New scientists come and go, but no one finds this cure they swear on."
My blood froze at her words.
She knew about this place. She knew about the suffering that happened here. The creatures who's blood had been spilt. Yet, Bahari the great sea witch, did nothing.
She had all the power, but didn't care. Instead she sat back and watched. Not caring about anyone but herself.
Maybe we were a lot alike.
It shouldn't have surprised me. She was called a bitch for a reason.
To her, these creatures were not her problem.
And they called me selfish.
Our conversation was cut off by the metal doors swinging open.
Well it was her problem now.
I tightened into a ball and laid my head on the stone before anyone could see me. Resuming my role.
Bahari held her head up and glared as the guards swarmed her again.
"Now it's your turn Bitch." Peter barked at her, grabbing her iron chains and dragging her to the locked rooms.
Bahari grinned widely. "Let us see what you've got."
She kept her head high and followed them with a smirk on her face.
She was there for hours, but did not scream.
I wasn't lying when I said I wanted to be her when I grew up.
